Abstract: A deep-sea mining device is sunk to a seabed mining area. A window of an exploding wire unit of a pulse exploding wire group is aligned to an exploding area. A strong pulse current is applied to an exploding wire of the exploding wire unit by an intense pulse power supply, and the exploding wire of the exploding wire unit and seawater in an exploding wires area are vaporized to generate shock waves, thereby breaking rocks through the impact of the seawater. The instantaneous high pressure causes the shock waves to crush the ore bed, and the pressure of the shock waves generated by the explosion of the exploding wire can be controlled by controlling the pulse voltage and current, so as to control the crushing head to crush rocks with different thicknesses.

Abstract: A one-bead-two-compound combinatorial synthesis technique provides libraries of macrocyclic peptidomimetic compounds and compositions with use as ligands for the Ephrin type-A receptor 2 (EphA2). The one-bead-two-compound technique and libraries of macrocyclic compounds are useful as research tools in drug discovery and/or to treat or prevent a range of diseases or disorders.
Abstract: System and method for determining real-time sag and shape information of an electrical power line based on strain distribution along a length of an optical fiber associated with the power line. An embedded fiber coupled to an overhead transmission line measures strain using the backscatter of an optical signal, the optical signal is then interrogated using an interferometer.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for the dry separation of bulk particulate material, especially coarse particles, is provided. The apparatus comprises a chamber, a screen adjacent the chamber and a fluidising device fluidly connected to the chamber. The screen has a screen surface, a plurality of apertures and an opening larger in size than the aperture. A mixture of the coarse particles and a fine particulate medium is fed into the chamber. The fluidising device directs a fluidising fluid to fluidise a fine particulate medium and create a fluidised bed directed towards the screen. The fine particulate medium and the coarse particles pass from the chamber through the openings. The fine particulate medium passes back through the apertures to the chamber. Relatively high density coarse particles also pass back through the openings to the chamber. Relatively low density coarse particles are retained on the screen surface. Vibrations may also be used.
Abstract: A non-invasive computer-aided diagnosis system generates a diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment, a disease state which often leads to the development of Alzheimer's disease. The system uses as inputs both functional positron emission tomography and structural magnetic resonance imaging data, reconstructs a model of the patient's cortex, uses machine-learning techniques to generate probabilities for mild cognitive impairments for local cortical regions, uses machine-learning techniques to fuse the local diagnoses to generate a global diagnosis based on each imaging modality, then uses machine-learning techniques to fuse the modality-specific global diagnoses to generate a final global diagnosis.
