Abstract: A poly(vinylphosphonic acid) (PVPA)?(NH4)2MoO4), gel polymer electrolyte can be prepared by incorporating redox-mediated Mo, or similar metal, into a PVPA, or similar polymer, matrix. Gel polymer electrolytes including PVPA/MoX, x representing the percent fraction Mo in PVPA, can be used to make supercapacitors including active carbon electrodes. The electrolytes can be in gel form, bendable and stretchable in a device. Devices including this gel electrolyte can have a specific capacitance (Cs) of 1276 F/g, i.e., a more than 50-fold increase relative to a PVPA system without Mo. A PVPA/Mo10 supercapacitor can have an energy density of 180.2 Wh/kg at power density of 500 W/kg, and devices with this hydrogel structure may maintain 85+% of their initial capacitance performance after 2300 charge-discharge cycles.

Abstract: A well cleanup process involves removing an impermeable filter cake from a formation face with thermochemical and chelating agents to allow formation fluids to flow from a reservoir to a wellbore. The method may be used with oil and water-based drilling fluids with varied weighting agents, e.g., bentonite, calcium carbonate, or barite. Such thermochemical agents may involve two salts, e.g., NO2? and NH4+, which, when mixed together, can generate pressure and heat, in addition to hot H2O and/or N2. For example, the thermochemical agents may comprise Na+, K+, Li+, Cs+, Mg2+, Ca2+, and/or Ba2+ with NO2? and NH4+ with F?, Cl?, Br?, I?, CO32?, NO3?, ClO4?, and/or ?OH.

This supercapacitor is evaluated on its specific capacitance, energy density, power density, resistance, as well as cycling stability.
Abstract: A method, device and system for determining autophagic flux are claimed. The levels of proteins which change with increased or decreased autophagy are determined in a sample. The change in the level of each protein is quantified in order to obtain the autophagic flux. This can be compared to a sample flux range associated with autophagy dysfunction or ageing patterns. Diseases M or conditions which may be diagnosed include neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer's disease and dementia, cancer, heart conditions, immune conditions or aging-related conditions. The device for determining autophagic flux comprises a housing, receiving zones configured for receiving a substrate and a biological sample, and a set of electrodes for each receiving zone. The device is connectable to circuitry that determines an electrical property of each substrate and uses this to determine the autophagic flux.

Abstract: Covalently cross-linked pilus polymers displayed on the cell surface of Gram-positive bacteria are assembled by class C sortase enzymes. These pilus-specific transpeptidases located on the bacterial membrane catalyze a two-step protein ligation reaction—first, cleaving the LPXTG motif of one pilin protomer to form an acyl-enzyme intermediate, and second, joining the terminal threonine to the nucleophilic lysine residue residing within the pilin motif of another pilin protomer. Informed by the high-resolution crystal structures of corynebacterial pilus-specific sortase (SrtA) and by developing structural variants of the sortase enzyme whose catalytic pocket has been unmasked by activating mutations, we have developed new reagents capable of forming isopeptide bonds in vitro. The reagents disclosed herein can catalyze ligation of isolated SpaA domains in vitro provide a facile and versatile new platform for protein engineering and bio-conjugation that has major implications for biotechnology.

Abstract: Methods of treating anxiety disorders or reducing anxiety-related behaviors. The methods include administering a therapeutically effective amount of ketone supplementation, such as butanediol, ketone esters (e.g., 1,3-butanediol-acetoacetate diester) and/or ketone salts (e.g., beta-hydroxybutyrate-mineral salt), chronically, sub-chronically, or acutely, with or without admixture with a medium chain triglyceride or in combination. It was determined herein that ketone supplementation reduced anxiety in rats on elevated plus maze as measured by less entries to closed arms, more time spent in open arms, more distance travelled in open arms, and delayed latency to entrance to closed arms, when compared to control. Along with reducing anxiety-related behavior, the chronic, sub-chronic, and acute ketone supplements also caused significant elevation of blood ?HB levels and changed blood glucose levels.
