The method also includes running the electrodialysis system to produce a diluate and a concentrate. The diluate is contaminated so as to have a conductivity of no less than 0.1 Siemens/meter. The method also includes reformulating the diluate to produce fossil fuel extraction fluid. The method also includes using the produced fossil fuel extraction fluid in the fossil fuel extraction operation. An electrodialysis system includes first and second stacks. The electrodialysis system also includes first and second voltage sources, coupled to the first and second stacks, so as to apply a first voltage to the first stack lower by at least about 10% than a second voltage to the second stack.

Abstract: Biological tissue such as skeletal and cardiac muscle can be imaged by using an objective-based probe in the tissue and scanning at a sufficiently fast rate to mitigate motion artifacts due to physiological motion. According to one example embodiment, such a probe is part of a system that is capable of reverse-direction high-resolution imaging without needing to stain or otherwise introduce a foreign element used to generate or otherwise increase the sensed light. The probe can include a light generator for generating light pulses that are directed towards structures located within the thick tissue. The system can additionally include aspects that lessen adverse image-quality degradation. Further, the system can additionally be constructed as a hand-held device.

Abstract: An event-driven neural network includes a plurality of interconnected core circuits is provided. Each core circuit includes an electronic synapse array has multiple digital synapses interconnecting a plurality of digital electronic neurons. A synapse interconnects an axon of a pre-synaptic neuron with a dendrite of a post-synaptic neuron. A neuron integrates input spikes and generates a spike event in response to the integrated input spikes exceeding a threshold. Each core circuit also has a scheduler that receives a spike event and delivers the spike event to a selected axon in the synapse array based on a schedule for deterministic event delivery.

Abstract: This invention relates to methods and systems for estimating offset, skew and drift. Embodiments of the invention relate to methods and systems which allow these relationships between a slave clock and a master clock to be estimated based on the exchange of timestamped messages between the master and the slave. Further embodiments of the invention set out uses of these estimates to synchronize a local clock in a slave to a master and to steer the slave clock to stay aligned to the master clock when the master clock is temporarily unavailable or the communication path between slave and master is temporarily unavailable.

Abstract: The method of making a supercapacitor using porous activated carbon from cow dung includes converting cow dung to porous activated carbon by, in a first step, preparing the dung waste by washing and drying the dung waste, and heating the dung waste in a vacuum environment to form pre-carbonized carbon. In a second step, the pre-carbonized carbon is impregnated with phosphoric acid to form a slurry, which is dried, ground, and heated in a vacuum to between 600-900° C. to form porous activated carbon. The porous activated carbon is mixed with a binder, acetylene black, and an organic solvent to form a paste, which is dried on a conductive metal foil to form an electrode. Two such electrodes (an anode and cathode) to are coated with an electrolyte gel (e.g., aqueous potassium hydroxide) and separated by a polymer (e.g., PTFE) membrane to form the supercapacitor.
