Abstract: A system and method include a resonator device including walls forming a channel, where the walls are shaped to simultaneously confine light in an optical mode and to confine vibration in a mechanical mode, and where the mechanical mode is selected so that vibration in the mechanical mode can couple to the optical mode. A waveguide is coupled with the resonator device for guiding a probe light through the resonator device. An electro-mechanical actuation mechanism provides a mechanical drive force to the resonator device. A photodetector measure light outputted by the waveguide after passing through the resonator device, the outputted light including a modulated version of the probe light based on passing through the resonator device and interacting with a fluid, or a fluid containing a particle, contained by the channel of the resonator device.

Abstract: Provided is a nitrided metal surface functionalized with molecules, each molecule comprising at least one binding group and an antimicrobial moiety. The molecules are immobilized on the surface by only covalent interactions between the binding groups of the molecules and nitrogen atoms within the nitrided metal surface. Articles comprising the functionalized nitrided surface find use in inhibiting or reducing the growth of microorganisms on surfaces that are frequently touched. A method for preparing the functionalized nitrided surface comprises contacting a nitrided metal surface with molecules so as to form covalent bonds between the binding groups of the molecules and the nitrogen atoms in the surface, thereby immobilising the molecules on the metal surface.
Abstract: A polymer nanocomposite coating of an elastomeric film containing at least 30 wt % conductive nanoparticles based on combined weight of elastomer and conductive nanoparticles is provided. The conductive nanoparticles have an average particle size along each dimension of less than 500 nm for nanoparticles having an aspect ratio of less than 20:1 or have an average particle size along each dimension of less than 2000 nm for nanoparticles having an aspect ratio of 20:1 or greater. The conductive nanoparticles are formed into hierarchical micro- and nano-sized aggregates having re-entrant morphology. The coating is both superoleophobic and conductive and retains these properties even when stretched under strain to over 100%. The coatings may be produced with simple spray technology.

Abstract: A multi-port PUF circuit based on MOSFET current division deviations comprises a reference source, a row decoder, a column decoder, a timing controller and 32 PUF arrays. Each PUF array comprises 512 PUF cells arranged in 128 rows and 4 columns, an arbiter, a 1st inverter, a 2nd inverter, a 3rd inverter, a 4th inverter and eight transmission gates. The reference source is connected to the PUF arrays. The mth output terminal of the row decoder is connected to the mth row selective signal input terminals of the 32 PUF arrays. The jth output terminal of the column decoder is connected to the jth selective signal input terminals of the 32 PUF arrays. The 1st output terminal of the timing controller is connected to the control terminal of the row decoder. The 2nd output terminal of the timing controller is connected to the control terminal of the column decoder. The multi-port PUF circuit has the advantages of small circuit area and low power consumption while ensuring circuit performance.

Abstract: An adsorbate-selective metal organic framework includes a transition metal; and a plurality of organic molecules coordinated to the transition metal so as to preserve open coordination sites for selectively adsorbing molecules that have low-lying ?* orbitals. The transition metal has a lowest energy spin state in the presence of the selectively adsorbed molecules that are strongly bonding to the transition metal through ?-donating interactions which is different than the lowest energy spin state in the absence of these adsorbed molecules. The transition metal has also a lowest energy spin state in the presence of non-selected molecules that are weakly bonding to the transition metal through ?- and/or ?-accepting and/or donating interactions.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides methods for functionalizing the surfaces of cellulose nanoparticles. In embodiments, nanoparticles are aerosolized, and then passed through a flow reactor where they are contacted with gaseous reactants to functionalize the surface of the nanoparticles. In other embodiments, the nanoparticles are aerosolized, and then passed through a plasma reactor where they are contacted with gaseous reactants to functionalize the surface of the nanoparticles. Once the functionalized nanoparticles are produced, they may be combined with polymers to form polymer composites having both a polymer and the functionalized nanoparticles. Systems for producing these functionalized nanoparticles, coupled with downstream polymer processing equipment for forming the polymer composites, are also provided.

Abstract: Waveguides, such as light guides, made entirely of elastomeric material or with indents on an outer surface are disclosed. These improved waveguides can be used in sensors, soft robotics, or displays. For example, the waveguides can be used in a strain sensor, a curvature sensor, or a force sensor. Abstract: A system and method is provided for acquiring flow encoded data from a subject using a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system. The method includes acquiring flow encoded (FE) data with alternating encoding polarities and along two of three orthogonal directions through the subject over at least two cycles of the flow within the subject; and separating the FE data into directional FE datasets using a temporal filter that separates the FE data based on temporal modulation of the FE directions caused by the alternating encoding polarities extending over the at least two cycles of the flow within the subject that shift the Fourier spectrum of velocity waveforms corresponding to the FE data. The method also includes using the directional FE datasets to generate an image of the subject showing flow within the subject caused by the at least two cycles of flow within the subject.
