  • Patent number: 10894838
Abstract: The present disclosure provides methods for producing carboxylated nanocelluloses. Compared with conventional methods, the methods of the present disclosure are simple and cost-effective in the production of carboxylated (or carboxy) nanocelluloses, in embodiments nanofibers and/or nanowhiskers, directly from raw biomass, including lignocellulose wood, non-wood sources, non-lignocellulose wood, lignocellulose or pure cellulose. The carboxy groups on the surface of nanocellulose thus produced can then be easily modified into functional derivatives such as amide, acetate, ether, ester, etc. The resulting nanocelluloses may be used to form purifying agents and/or filters to remove impurities from wastewater.

  • Patent number: 10894121
Abstract: Disclosed is a small molecule dye for use in imaging in the near-infrared window, namely between 1000 nm-1700 nm wavelength. The present dyes are also useful for photoacoustic imaging and photothermal therapy. The dyes have a structure of a D-A-D (donor-acceptor-donor) fluorescent compound core and side chains rendering the compounds water soluble and easily conjugated to hydrophilic polymers and/or targeting ligands. Further disclosed is compound, CH1055 that can be PEGylated, conjugated to a targeting ligand, or conjugated to taurine. Key steps utilized to assemble the core structure of the target included a cross-Suzuki coupling reaction, iron reduction and N-thionylaniline induced ring closure. Four carboxylic acid groups were introduced into the donor-acceptor-donor (D-A-D) type fluorescent compound to impart a certain aqueous solubility and to allow facile conjugation to targeting ligands.

  • Patent number: 10896818
Abstract: Methods and structures for forming epitaxial layers of Ill-nitride materials on patterned foreign substrates with low stacking fault densities are described. Semipolar and nonpolar orientations of GaN that are essentially free from stacking faults may be grown from crystal-growth facets of a patterned substrate. Etching can be used to remove stacking faults if present. Crystal growth with an impurity can eliminate crystal growth from a facet that is responsible for stacking fault formation and permit substantially stacking-fault-free growth of the Ill-nitride material.

  • Patent number: 10895621
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for a simultaneous 3D T1 and B1+ mapping technique based on VFA imaging using a reference region VFA (RR-VFA) approach to eliminate the need for a separate B1+ mapping scan while imaging the prostate. The RR-VFA method assumes the existence of a “reference region” that is distributed throughout the volume of interest and is well characterized by a known T1 relaxation time. In particular, fat is generally selected as the reference region due to its distribution in the body. B1+ inhomogeneity is estimated in the fat tissue and interpolated over the entire volume of interest, thus eliminating the need for an additional scan.
