  • Patent number: 8986469
Abstract: Design and fabrication processes and compositions for bulk metallic glass materials. Examples of bulk metallic glasses based on the described compositions may contain a high atomic percent of titanium or iron, which is alloyed with metalloid elements and refractory metals. The compositions can be designed using theoretical calculations of the liquidus temperature to have substantial amounts of refractory metals, while still maintaining a depressed liquidus temperature. The alloying elements are molybdenum, tungsten, chromium, boron, and carbon may be used. Some of the resulting alloys are ferromagnetic at room temperature, while others are non-ferromagnetic. These amorphous alloys have increased specific strengths and corrosion resistance compared to conventional high strength steels.

  • Patent number: 8984841
Abstract: The low cost roofing techniques provide techniques for construction of low-cost roofing. The techniques reduce the proportion of cement by employing substitute (low-cost) materials that may be readily available to mix with the cement. These substitute materials include, but are not limited to, suitable agricultural wastes, such as rice husk ash, crushed used brick rubble, and pozzolana. The techniques involve forming a plurality of supports spanning the open space between the walls of the structure and mounting a plurality of dome-shaped sheet metal elements on the supports, forming a series of ceiling vaults. The concave surface of the dome-shaped elements forms the ceiling. The convex or outer surface of the dome-shaped elements forms the inner layer of the roof. The cement mixture is deposited on the convex or outer surfaces of the dome-shaped elements to form a second layer for the roof.

  • Patent number: 8988571
Abstract: A pixel area with a two-dimensional array of pixels (10) each including a photodiode and a memory area (3a) on which memory sections for holding signals produced by the pixels for continuously recordable frames are separately provided on a semiconductor substrate. All the pixels simultaneously perform a photocharge storage operation, and the signals produced by the photocharge storage are extracted in parallel through mutually independent pixel output lines (14). In a plurality of memory sections connected to one pixel output line, a sample-and-hold transistor of a different memory section is turned on for each exposure cycle so as to sequentially hold signals in a capacitor of each memory section. After the continuous imaging is completed, all the pixel are sequentially read. Unlike CCD cameras, the present sensor does not simultaneously drive all the gate loads. Therefore, the sensor consumes less power yet can be driven at high speeds.
