Abstract: In a corpus of scientific articles such as a digital library, documents are connected by citations and one document plays two different roles in the corpus: document itself and a citation of other documents. A Bernoulli Process Topic (BPT) model is provided which models the corpus at two levels: document level and citation level. In the BPT model, each document has two different representations in the latent topic space associated with its roles. Moreover, the multi-level hierarchical structure of the citation network is captured by a generative process involving a Bernoulli process. The distribution parameters of the BPT model are estimated by a variational approximation approach.

Abstract: A method of forming an ocular delivery device includes exposing a solid, shaped cellulose polymer to a solution including an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) and a solvent capable of solubilizing the API, wherein the polymer absorbs at least a portion of the solution, including the API and solvent. The method may further include removing at least a portion of the absorbed solvent from the polymer by allowing the absorbed solvent to evaporate from the polymer or by drying the polymer. A variety of cellulose polymers may be used, including hydroxypropyl cellulose. A variety of APIs may be used, including Cyclosporine, Tobramycin and Vancomycin. Ocular delivery devices prepared by the methods may be used to treat a variety of eye disorders.

Abstract: A minimally-invasive bone graft harvesting device, kit, and method are provided. The device includes a hollow cutting element and an extraction element. The hollow cutting element may define a longitudinal axis and includes a distal end, a proximal end adapted to be coupled to a powered or manual-operated rotary tool, and an inner lumen extending longitudinally between the distal and proximal ends. The hollow cutting element may also include one or more blades protruding from an outer surface of the cutting element. Each blade may be arranged adjacent to an opening extending between the outer surface and the inner lumen to allow cancellous bone material cut by each blade during use to pass through the opening into the inner lumen. The extraction element may be removably received within the inner lumen of the hollow cutting element to allow withdrawal of the bone material in the inner lumen.

Abstract: An embodiment in accordance with the present invention provides a method for non-invasively determining the functional severity of coronary artery stenosis. The method includes gathering patient-specific data related to concentration of a contrast agent within a coronary artery of a patient using a coronary computed tomography angiography scan (CCTA). The patient-specific data is used to calculate a patient-specific transluminal attenuation gradient for the coronary artery of the patient. The patient specific transluminal attenuation gradient is used to determine an estimate of a coronary flow velocity, pressure gradient, loss coefficient, coronary flow reserve, and/or fractional flow reserve for the patient. Coronary flow velocity, pressure gradient, loss coefficient, coronary flow reserve, and fractional flow reserve can then be used to estimate the functional severity of coronary artery stenosis.

Abstract: An assistive device includes a sensor that detects information using a first modality; an actuator that conveys information using a second, different modality; and a controller that automatically receives information from the sensor and operates the actuator to provide a corresponding actuation. A sensory assisting system for a user includes assistive devices and a support the user wears to hold the devices in proximity to body parts. The fields of view of the devices' sensors extend at least partly outward from the body parts. The controller reads the sensors and operates the corresponding actuators. A method of configuring a sensory assisting system includes successively activating actuators and receiving corresponding user feedback; determining perceptibility relationships for devices per the feedback; and repeatedly: activating the actuators per a virtual environment, a user avatar position, and the relationships; receiving a user navigation command; and moving the user avatar.

Abstract: The invention disclosed herein includes nanocomplexes that are designed include enzymes that have complementary functional attributes and methods for using these nanocomplexes. Illustrative examples include nanocomplexes that comprise both an alcohol oxidase enzyme as well as a catalase enzyme. These nanocomplexes can be used in methods designed to lower blood alcohol levels in vivo, and/or to break down the toxic byproducts of alcohol metabolism. Consequently these nanocomplexes can be used to treat a variety of conditions resulting from the consumption of alcohol, including for example, acute alcohol intoxication.
