Abstract: A diagnostic system and method for a fuel cell stack that diagnoses the state and/or failure of the fuel cell stack. More specifically, the diagnostic control analyzer diagnoses and analyzes the state of the fuel cell stack by measuring the voltage and the current received from the fuel cell stack. To do this, an AC signal generator cogenerates a diagnostic AC signal according to the control upon receiving a control command form the analyzer, and an AC component driving element is then driven upon receiving the AC signal that is output from the AC signal generator in order to include a diagnostic AC component within the current of the fuel cell stack. In particular, the diagnostic control analyzer diagnoses the fuel cell stack based on a voltage and a current received from the fuel cell stack that includes the AC component via a load.

Abstract: A diagnostic and heat management system for a fuel cell stack is provided herein that includes a diagnostic control analyzer that diagnoses and analyzes a state of the fuel cell stack by measuring a voltage and a current of the fuel cell stack. Also, an AC signal generator generates a diagnostic AC signal, and an AC component driving element that is included in an AC component in a current of the fuel cell stack. Additionally, a termoelement is driven as a heat absorbing device when a temperature of the AC component driving element is equal to or greater than a predetermined temperature and is driven as a heat emitting device when a temperature of the AC component driving element is less than a predetermined temperature, in order to manage heat generation in the AC component driving element.

Abstract: The invention provides a fall detection and protection system and method. The fall detection and protection system includes a guarding device to be worn on a user, and a portable device having a pre-determined threshold value stored therein for detecting an activity of a user to acquire an activity status value, which is to be compared with the threshold value so as to detect and determine whether the user falls. When a fall is detected, the portable device transmits a triggering signal to the guarding device to activate the guarding function of the guarding device, thereby preventing the user from injury caused by the impact and collision of a fall.

Abstract: We found mutations of the R132 residue of isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1) in the majority of grade II and III astrocytomas and oligodendrogliomas as well as in glioblastomas that develop from these lower grade lesions. Those tumors without mutations in IDH1 often had mutations at the analogous R172 residue of the closely related IDH2 gene. These findings have important implications for the pathogenesis and diagnosis of malignant gliomas.

Abstract: A laminated graphene device is demonstrated as a cathode. In one example the devices include organic photovoltaic devices. The measured properties demonstrate work-function matching via contact doping. Devices and method shown also provide increased power conversion efficiency due to transparency. These findings indicate that flexible, light-weight all carbon devices, such as solar cells, can be constructed using graphene as the cathode material.

Abstract: The invention provides a method of inhibiting neovascularization in a subject. The method comprises administering to the subject an agent that interferes with fibronectin (Fn) matrix assembly in an amount effective to inhibit neovascularization. The invention also provides a method of identifying an agent that inhibits neovascularization. The method comprises detecting fibronectin (Fn) matrix assembly by stimulated endothelial cells cultured in three-dimensional culture gel in the presence and absence of an agent. A decrease in Fn matrix assembly in the presence of the agent compared to Fn matrix assembly in the absence of the agent is indicative of an agent that inhibits neovascularization. Alternatively, the method of identifying an agent that inhibits neovascularization comprises detecting changes in nuclear architecture in stimulated endothelial cells cultured in three-dimensional culture gel in the presence and absence of an agent.
