Abstract: A method for making a color image and a color filter manufactured with the method. The color of the color image and the color of the color filter are characterized by resonance features of a Fabry-Perot resonant cavity (100). Through a nanoimprint technology, Fabry-Perot resonant cavities with different thicknesses are manufactured, and the Fabry-Perot resonant cavities with different thicknesses correspond to red, green and blue respectively. The red, green and blue Fabry-Perot resonant cavities are distributed according to the color separation principle, and a combination thereof has the effect of representing a whole image macroscopically.

Abstract: Methods and a module for use with a microscope for enhancing image contrast in an image of a phase object. A transmission image of a specimen is formed in an image plane, of which a Fourier transform is generated in a Fourier plane. An amplitude filter is applied to the Fourier transform field, which is then transformed back to an image at a focal plane of a detector array. An image signal from the detector array is processed to generate a contrast-enhanced image of the specimen.

Abstract: The present invention provides a frequency multiplier apparatus. The frequency multiplier apparatus includes an injection-locked frequency multiplier and a frequency-to-control signal converter. The injection-locked frequency multiplier outputs an output signal having a first frequency in response to an input signal having a first basic frequency. The frequency-to-control signal converter provides a first control signal to the injection-locked frequency multiplier in response to the input signal. The injection-locked frequency multiplier adjusts the first frequency to a second frequency in response to a change of the first control signal when the first basic frequency is changed to a second basic frequency.

Abstract: A method of adapting a security configuration of a data processing application at runtime, and a system, together with its computing architecture, are disclosed. The system stores a causal network comprising a plurality of nodes and a plurality of incoming and outgoing causal links associated therewith, wherein each node of the causal network is associated with a security concern or a requirement that can be affected by any configuration of the security controls. The current value of assets nodes, as well as those of the security concerns that can be affected by monitored contextual factors, are updated. The control nodes corresponding to the security controls is updated according to the security configuration whose utility is evaluated by the causal network. The node corresponding to the at least one variable is updated with the determined current value, which is propagated through the causal network through the causal links associated with the updated node.

Abstract: The present invention provides an optical device for a visually-impaired individual and a method of operating such a device. In one embodiment, the apparatus comprises a spaced array of discrete light sources and a support arranged to maintain the array in proximate relation to at least one eye of the visually-impaired individual. An image capture device is configured to capture images of at least part of the individual's immediate environment, wherein the array is configured to convey information to the individual by selectively illuminating one or more of the discrete light sources based on the content of the captured images. In this way, information relating to objects and/or textual language in the individual's environment can be conveyed to the individual by predetermined patterns of illumination (e.g. spatial and/or temporal). The apparatus and method are found to be particularly suited for visually-impaired individuals who retain at least some residual light and/or colour discrimination.

Abstract: A non-transitory computer-readable medium, method and system for providing results associated with a ranking of a plurality of items of a particular item type can be provided. For example, for each respective item of a plurality of items having an associated cost, it is possible to (i) determining an item utility value for the respective item of the items based on aggregate data associated with a plurality of users without requiring utilization of information particular to each of the users, and (ii) determine a surplus value for the respective item as the item utility value less a cost utility value associated with the cost of the respective item. Further, it is possible to provide the results, based on the respective surplus values, to a particular user of the users.
