Patent number: 8192762Abstract: The present invention describes a method for synthesis of relatively low molecular weight imprinted polymers using living polymerization, and their application in analytical chemistry, pharmacology, medicine and the food industry. Specifically the low-molecular weight polymers are synthesized by the polymerization of functional monomers in the presence of a template, such as a biological receptor, enzyme, nucleic acid, cell, virus, microorganism, tissue sample or drug using living initiator. The conditions of living polymerization ensure a relatively small size of synthesized molecules. Synthesized in this way molecules (dimers, oligomers, polymers, or their mixture) have a higher affinity to the template than the original monomers and can rebind it in vitro and/or in vivo.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 2006Date of Patent: June 5, 2012Assignee: Cranfield UniversityInventors: Khalku Karim, Sergey Anatoliyovich Piletsky, Olena Volodimirivna Piletska, Anthony Peter Francis Turner, Iva Chianella, Antonio Ricardo Leonardo Guerriero

Patent number: 8195386Abstract: A movable-body navigation information display unit is provided. In the movable-body navigation information display unit, a driver can intuitively and accurately recognize a relation between navigation information and a real picture or a real landscape. In addition, it is possible to avoid a state that visibility of a caution-needed picture such as a pedestrian in the real picture and a real picture of a road construction site is inhibited by an image of the navigation information. An image data creating section (405) matches road shape data with a road shape model to estimate posture data. In addition, the image data creating section creates picture (image) data for accurately compositing and displaying the image of the navigation information in an appropriate position in a real picture (or in a real landscape) of a road ahead of a movable body, and displays the navigation information as a three-dimensional icon or the like. A picture display section (5) performs display based on the picture data.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2005Date of Patent: June 5, 2012Assignee: National University Corporation Kumamoto UniversityInventors: Zhencheng Hu, Keiichi Uchimura

Patent number: 8191753Abstract: An apparatus and computer program are disclosed for processing at least one workpiece using a rotary tool with rotating member for contacting and processing the workpiece. The methods include oscillating the rotary tool laterally with respect to a selected propagation path for the rotating member with respect to the workpiece to define an oscillation path for the rotating member. The methods further include obtaining force signals or parameters related to the force experienced by the rotary tool at least while the rotating member is disposed at the extremes of the oscillation. The force signals or parameters associated with the extremes can then be analyzed to determine a lateral position of the selected path with respect to a target path and a lateral offset value can be determined based on the lateral position. The lateral distance between the selected path and the target path can be decreased based on the lateral offset value.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 2011Date of Patent: June 5, 2012Assignee: Vanderbilt UniversityInventors: Paul Fleming, David H. Publication number: 20120137287Abstract: A system is provided for migrating a VM over a WAN. A first server has a VM. The first and second servers are operatively connected over the WAN by a virtual private local area network service. The first server migrates the VM to the second server by coping files and state of the VM to the second server without interrupting the interactive software on the VM. During a last round of migrating the VM, for packets intended for the VM on the first server, the first server buffers the packets in a buffer as buffered packets. Instead of delivering the buffered packets to the VM, the first server transmits the buffered packets to the second server. The second server plays the buffered packets to the VM migrated to and operating on the second server, such that buffered packets are played before current packets currently received from the clients are played.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 29, 2010Publication date: May 31, 2012Applicants: The Board of Trustees of The University of Illinois, AT&T INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY I, L.P.Inventors: Jeffrey Pang, Matthew Caesar, Virajith Jalaparti, Seungjoon Lee, Jacobus Van Der Merwe

Publication number: 20120131988Abstract: A gas sensor is described which incorporates a sensor stack comprising a first film layer of a ferromagnetic material, a spacer layer, and a second film layer of the ferromagnetic material. The first film layer is fabricated so that it exhibits a dependence of its magnetic anisotropy direction on the presence of a gas, That is, the orientation of the easy axis of magnetization will flip from out-of-plane to in-plane when the gas to be detected is present in sufficient concentration. By monitoring the change in resistance of the sensor stack when the orientation of the first layer's magnetization changes, and correlating that change with temperature one can determine both the identity and relative concentration of the detected gas.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 29, 2010Publication date: May 31, 2012Applicant: The Regents of the University of CaliforniaInventors: Andreas K.
