Abstract: A method to design antennas with broadband characteristics. In an exemplary embodiment, a method comprises loading an antenna structure with multiple reactive loads. The multiple loads are synthesized by applying the theory of Characteristic Modes. Another exemplary embodiment includes an antenna adapted to have broadband characteristics. One example is a wire dipole antenna. In an exemplary embodiment, a loaded antenna may be adapted to resonate an arbitrary current over a wide frequency band. The loads may require non-Foster elements when realized. Exemplary embodiments may include the broadband characteristics of the both the input impedance at the terminal of the antenna as well as the radiation pattern.

Abstract: A laser oscillator includes a ring resonator. The ring resonator includes an optical circulator having first, second, third, and fourth ports and a first optical amplification fiber connected to the optical circulator. Light incident on the first port is exited from the second port, and light incident on the second port is exited from the third port. The fourth port provides an exciting light and injects the exciting light into the ring resonator through the first port. The first optical amplification fiber amplifies light exited from the third port with the exciting light provided by the fourth port. The laser oscillator also includes an optical member connected to the optical circulator. The optical member reflects at least a part of the light exited from the second port and injects the same into the second port again.

Abstract: A route computation algorithm, a load-balancing scheme inside a router for making a hop-by-hop routing network (such as the Internet) nonblocking are described in this patent. The output of the route computation algorithm includes a set of link weights that determine the paths of the hop-by-hop routing network. The route computation algorithm and the load-balancing scheme also determine the ingress and egress traffic constraints at each edge router such that as long as the traffic entering and leaving the network does not exceed the constraints, none of the internal links will ever have traversing traffic more than its link capacity. The network is thus non-blocking internally. This greatly simplifies flow admission control and allows hard QoS to be supported inside the network.

Abstract: A system and method includes administering interventional agents to Patient until Patient attains a predetermined plane of anesthesia; amplifying and digitizing brain waves of Patient before and after administering step to generate first set of digital data; amplifying and digitizing brain waves of Patient during a medical procedure to generate second set of digital data; computing separate trajectories for at least two different indices of an anesthetic state of Patient during the medical procedure using a comparison of first and second sets (the indices including Depth Index (DI)—a depth of anesthesia, Memory Index (MI)—an ability to form and store memories, and Pain Index (PI)—sensitivity to pain); and determining an amount of at least one of the interventional agents to be delivered to Patient as a function of the trajectories, the interventional agents include anesthetic, analgesic and/or amnesic agents corresponding to DI, MI and/or PI trajectories.
Abstract: A portable terminal, when receiving an exchange offer message of electronic values from a portable terminal, notifies an application program of an exchange offer content based on a listener corresponding to the message. When the application program accepts this offer content and when electronic values are determined as exchange objects, the portable terminal returns an exchange confirmation message of the electronic values. When the portable terminal receives the exchange confirmation message, it notifies an application program of an exchange content based on a listener corresponding to the message. When the application program accepts the exchange content, the exchange transaction of electronic values is started.

Abstract: A support vector machine with wavelet kernel was developed for accurate modeling of nonlinear systems. A method of providing an optimized model of a nonlinear system includes using a support vector machine (SVM) having a wavelet kernel, where support vectors include a family of multidimensional wavelets. Training the SVM allows optimization of the number of support vectors, the weights of the support vectors, and the translation factors of the support vectors. Use of a novel linear programming approach reduces computational demands required for training, allowing optimized support vectors to give an optimized model of the nonlinear system. Further, on-line retraining is possible, so that the model can be adapted to changing conditions.
