  • Patent number: 7572431
Abstract: Novel, monodispersed, spherical ZrO2 particles in the size range of approximately 10 to approximately 600 nm exhibiting metastable tetragonal crystal structure at room temperature and novel methods of preparation. The ZrO2 particles are approximately 100% in the tetragonal phase at room temperature and can be pure and free of foreign oxides. The novel method can include mixing zirconium-alkoxide and an alcohol, forming preparation one, followed by separately dissolving completely de-ionized water and a polymeric steric stabilizer in an alcohol forming preparation two. Next the preparations can be mixed with vigorous stirring while subjecting the materials to hydrolysis and condensation reactions with very slow stirring. Next, there is waiting for the formation of a sol from the mixture, followed by drying at approximately 80 degrees C. to form resultant material followed by crushing the resultant material.

  • Patent number: 7571648
Abstract: An angular velocity sensor includes a protrusion protruding in a Y?-axis direction and extending in an X-axis direction on a main surface of a rotated Y cut quartz plate, and an excitation electrode and a detection electrode formed on the main surface adjacent to this protrusion. This excitation electrode excites thickness-shear vibration in the X-axis direction on the quartz substrate, exiting vibration on the protrusion. Then, the protrusion is bent and displaced due to Coriolis force acting in a direction orthogonal to the vibration of the protrusion corresponding to a rotation around an Y? axis. This displacement at the protrusion is applied to the quartz substrate as stress. The detection electrode detects change of this stress, thereby angular speed added to the angular velocity sensor is detected.

  • Patent number: 7573081
Abstract: A new method is provided for creating an inductor on the surface of a silicon substrate. The invention provides overlying layers of oxide fins beneath a metal inductor. The oxide fins provide the stability support for the overlying metal inductor while also allowing horizontal air columns to simultaneously exist underneath the inductor. Overlying layers of air cavities that are spatially inserted between the created overlying layers of oxide fins can be created under the invention by repetitive application of the mask used. The presence of the air wells on the surface of the substrate significantly reduces parasitic capacitances and series resistance of the inductor associated with the substrate.

  • Patent number: 7572546
Abstract: The present invention discloses a new type of biofuel cell, based on the microbial regeneration of the oxidant, ferric ions. The bio-fuel cell is based on the cathodic reduction of ferric to ferrous ions, coupled with the microbial regeneration of ferric ions by the oxidation of ferrous ions, with fuel (such as hydrogen) oxidation on the anode. The microbial regeneration of ferric ions is achieved by chemolithotrophic microorganisms such as Acidithiobacillus ferroxidans. Electrical generation is coupled with the consumption of carbon dioxide from atmosphere and its transformation into microbial cells, which can be used as a single-cell protein.
