Publication number: 20080146229Abstract: One detects (101) (for example, via a wireless control node (600)) the handing off of a call session for a mobile station from either a CDMA wireless environment to an 802.16(e)-compatible wireless environment or vice versa. In either case, one then maintains (102) a substantially uninterrupted Internet Protocol data session portion of that call session notwithstanding the handing off of the call session for the mobile station.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 14, 2006Publication date: June 19, 2008Applicant: UTSTARCOM, INC.Inventors: Chandra Warrier, Quan Choi

Publication number: 20080133588Abstract: The present invention relates to a structure of a Management Information Base (MIB) communicated between a Network Management System (NMS) and an agent of a Network Element (NE). Conventionally, an operator provides the MIB to the NMS and the NE agent before the communication. If the MIB is not provided before the communication, the NMS cannot know what data to be retrieved from the NE agent and thus cannot understand the MIB. In order to resolve this problem, the present invention suggests using the claimed structure of MIB for communicating between the NMS and the NE agent. According to the present invention, when a MIB of the NE agent is changed, the MIB of the NE agent is reflected to the NMS automatically, and not by an operator's action. Therefore, the network can be managed automatically.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 14, 2005Publication date: June 5, 2008Applicant: UTStarcom Korea LimitedInventor: Kwang Seok Kang

Publication number: 20080120508Abstract: A platform (200) having a default password and a presently used password stored therein receives (101) data from a portable physical data carrier and extracts (102) information comprising a unique code and a count as correspond to the platform. When a comparison (104) of the code and the count with corresponding information in the platform is favorable, the platform then resets (106) the presently used password to the default password. To facilitate the provision of such a portable physical data carrier, upon detecting (301) a need to reset this presently assigned password at a remotely located platform to a default password, the aforesaid unique code and count are recovered (302, 303) and placed (305) on the portable physical data carrier along with an instruction regarding resetting of the presently used password. That portable physical data carrier can then be physically forwarded (306) to that platform to facilitate the foregoing steps.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 20, 2006Publication date: May 22, 2008Applicant: UTSTARCOM, INC.Inventors: John A. Patent number: 7376128Abstract: The present invention provides a method for Voice Handling via Dynamic Home Agents in a Network employing All-IP Architecture, and a system for handling voice call by using this method. The method comprises the following steps: when a first RCU is about to initiate voice call with a second RCU, a first agent address FA will be assigned to a corresponding mobile RCU by the RNC in which the mobile RCU resides; when the RCUs perform the voice call, corresponding Media Gateway (MG) assigns second agent address HA1 and HA2 to the first and second RCUs, respectively. Wherein both HA1 and HA2 are only valid during this call, and when the call is terminated or dropped, HA1 and HA2 will be released back to the pool of the IP addresses of the corresponding MG. The first and second RCUs implement the voice call based on the assigned first and second agent addresses.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 2002Date of Patent: May 20, 2008Assignee: Utstarcom (China) Co., Ltd.Inventors: Xiyuan Chen, Baijun Zhao, Zhiyu Xu

Patent number: 7376130Abstract: High-speed data transfer rates are provided between a central office and customer premise equipment with a multiplexer that is interposed between the central office and the customer premise equipment, and that functions as a remote access node. The multiplexer communicates at high data rates via downstream data links such as twisted-pair conductors between the multiplexer and the customer premise equipment. By positioning the multiplexer physically close to the customer premise equipment, DSL data rates can be achieved. In one application, the multiplexer assigns a variable number of the upstream data links between the central office and the multiplexer on a dynamic, adaptive, and automatic basis to individual ones of the downstream data links. In this way, unused data link capacity of the upstream data links is used to provide high data transmission rates when required between the multiplexer and the central office.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2003Date of Patent: May 20, 2008Assignee: Utstarcom, Inc.Inventor: P. Patent number: 7369842Abstract: A mobile switching center is configured with software instructions which allow it to continue to provide at least limited call termination and call origination services for mobile terminals in the event of a failure of a signaling link between the mobile switching center and a home location register and/or a signal control point (SCP) in an intelligent network. For pre-paid callers originating or terminating a call, the mobile switching center marks a call detail record as indicating that the call is a post-paid call. The call detail record is later provided to the SCP after the signaling link has been restored in order to bill the mobile terminal. In one example, the signaling link between the mobile switching center and the home location register or SCP may be a satellite link, which may go down for various reasons such as for maintenances, an unexpected failure, or the orbit of the satellite goes outside the field of reception of an antenna in the signal path.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 2005Date of Patent: May 6, 2008Assignee: UTStarcom, Inc.Inventors: Man Sang Lui, Suryadi Wen

Patent number: 7366509Abstract: A method and system for a mobile station to identify to a wireless network agent, an access point into a wireless network. The mobile station obtains an indication of an access point into the wireless network and inserts the indication into a mobile registration message. The access point identifier identifies an access point into the wireless network. Then, the mobile station sends the mobile registration message to the wireless network agent via the access point identified by the access point identifier. The wireless network agent receives the mobile registration message and provides the access point identifier to an authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA) server. The AAA server uses the access point identifier to provide location-based services to the mobile station.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 2004Date of Patent: April 29, 2008Assignee: UTStarcom, Inc.Inventors: Ali Akgun, Ravideep Bhatia, Michael Borella

Patent number: 7346684Abstract: A system and methods are shown for selecting a packet data serving node (PDSN) for a mobile node in an Internet Protocol network. A network node receives a message associated with a mobile node. The message includes a service request parameter corresponding to a requested service. The network node uses the service request parameter to select the address of a packet data serving node (PDSN) offering the service. The network node then sends a response message directing a connection with the selected PDSN. The service request parameter may be an international mobile subscriber identifier (IMSI) that identifies a subscriber requesting a static IP address, in which case the network node directs a connection with a PDSN that offers an. Internet connection with the static IP address.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 2003Date of Patent: March 18, 2008Assignee: Utstarcom, Inc.Inventor: Michael S. Borella
