  • Publication number: 20070247815
Abstract: A heat dissipation system for a miniaturized form factor card allows a communications system for mobile information devices contained in the card to operate with high heat loads by employing a high conductivity pad on the printed circuit board of the mobile information device which contacts the case of the miniaturized form factor card. Additionally, heat dissipation plugs are integrated into the edge of the PCB with emitting surfaces adjacent radiation holes in the case of the mobile information device adjacent the PCB. Heat convection channels through layers of the PCB allow transfer of heat from the pad to other conductive layers in the PCB. High thermal conductivity packing in the miniaturized form factor card conducts heat from the internal components to the case of the card in contact with the high conductivity. Placement of high heat generation components within the card case adjacent the contact interface with the high conductivity pad is also employed for maximum heat dissipation.

  • Patent number: 7280546
Abstract: A system and method for providing wireless Internet protocol access is provided. A network entity may be coupled to both a second generation and a third generation network access node. The network entity may intercept a request from a mobile node and determine whether the mobile node desires services from the second or third generation network. The network entity may then establish the proper communication session based on the type of session requested by the mobile node. By employing the network entity, service providers can effectively migrate from the second generation network architecture to the third generation architecture with minimal or no loss of services for users. Also, employing such a network entity enables users to operate a bi-functional mobile node, such as one that requires both second and third generation network access.

  • Publication number: 20070217335
Abstract: A network element can monitor (105) communication resource usage by, for example, a first end user. A determination (106) can then be had as to whether this first end user's communication resource usage exceeds a predetermined individual level of usage for that first end user (as distinguished, for example, from an upper limit as might be generically applied across an entire user population). When the first end user's communication resource does exceed this predetermined individual level of usage, automatic limitations regarding the first end user's communication resource usage can be imposed (108) while nevertheless continuing to facilitate the end user's communication resource usage.

  • Publication number: 20070220133
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for correcting time data in a network management application. In a conventional Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) application, time errors occur due to a time tick or a time delay in the network. To resolve the above problem, the present invention suggests a method for correcting the time data, wherein the network management application waits for the most polling periods to save system resources, checks time data for the last polling period, and requests performance information and statistic information. With the present invention, the possibility of incurring time errors due to the information request for polling can be resolved.

  • Publication number: 20070211752
Abstract: A method of establishing a Point-to-Point (PPP) session over an air interface is described. In order to provide access to a Circuit Switched Data (CSD) server on a CSD network, a Packet Data Serving Node (PDSN) establishes a PPP session on behalf of an InterWorking Function (IWF). This establishment of the PPP session allows a mobile 3G device to setup a TCP session with the IWF. The mobile 3G device may communicate modem emulation data to the IWF and thereby use a modem in the IWF to communicate over the CSD network with the CSD server.

  • Publication number: 20070213970
Abstract: Generally speaking, pursuant to these various embodiments, a network element (such as, but not limited to, a gateway) can use (101) a first communication resource to support an application communication session with a first communication platform. By one approach this application communication session is not native to the first communication resource. The network element then uses (102) a second communication resource to at least attempt to extend the application communication session to a second communication platform. By these teachings, when this attempt fails, the network element nevertheless automatically provides (104) a second communication platform application communication session-compatible message to the first communication platform as though the attempt to extend the application communication session to the second communication platform had succeeded.

  • Publication number: 20070207826
Abstract: A home location register provides a mobile switching center with information grouping mobile devices in particular groups, such groups identifying which feature codes mobile device are allowed to access. The mobile switching center stores such information in memory, e.g., in the form of a table containing grouping information for all currently registered mobile devices. When a mobile switching center receives a feature request from a mobile device in which the mobile device requests a feature that they are not authorized for, the mobile switching center denies the request, and does not exchange FEATREQ messages with the home location register. This technique frees up computing resources at the mobile switching center and the home location register and reduces the amount of IS-41 MAP signaling messages exchanged between the two entities.

Abstract: A limiter based analog demodulator includes a power amplifier receiving a base-band signal and a local clock operating at the base-band frequency. A first multiplier receives an output from the power amplifier and the local clock to provide an in phase signal. A quadrature phase shifter receives the local clock and a second multiplier receives the output from the power amplifier and an output from the phase shifter to provide a quadrature signal. Analog filters receive the in phase and quadrature signals and analog to digital converters connected to the analog filters provide digitized in phase and quadrature signals. The phase detector then receives the digitized in phase and quadrature signals.

  • Publication number: 20070189228
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to a method for establishing an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) traffic channel path between a SF block of a base station controller (BSC) and a channel card block (HCCA) of a base transceiver station (BTS). More particularly, the present invention is directed to a method for establishing an ATM traffic channel path between the SF block of the BSC and the channel card block of the BTS and exchanging information on such established path necessary for establishing such path, wherein the blocks have been designed and implemented in the course of commercializing ATM communication network based on an evolution-data only (EV-DO) system of Qualcomm. The present invention modifies a conventional message between the BSC and BTS, conceives a new message between them while reflecting the conventional message and provides an additional way of exchanging information on the ATM path.

  • Publication number: 20070183415
Abstract: A method and system for internal data loop back in a packet switch is provided. In some instances, the switch may be required to process multiple layers of a header within the data packet, such as when data is transferred over the network encapsulated with a TCP header at the Transport Layer to form a TCP packet, then encapsulated with an IP header at the Network Layer to form an IP packet, then encapsulated with one or more MPLS headers to form a MPLS packet, and then encapsulated with an Ethernet header at the Link Layer to form an Ethernet packet. In such an instance, the data packet can be iteratively processed by the packet switch using an internal loop back technique. An internal loop back may be accomplished by using a header providing internal routing instructions resulting in the data packet being routed directly from an egress queue back to an ingress queue whereupon the lower levels of the header can be processed.
