  • Patent number: 7142590
Abstract: M DSL Modems provide DSL service to N Customer Premise Equipment devices, wherein M is less than N. P OAM/EOC Modems maintain active DSL lines for the N?M=P Customer Premise Equipment devices not receiving DSL service. The OAM/EOC Modems communicate synchronization data via superframes with the P Customer Premise Equipment Devices. Requests to send and receive data are embedded within the superframes. A switch in communication with the DSL Modems and OAM/EOC Modems connects the DSL Modems and OAM/EOC Modems to respective Customer Premise Equipment devices in response to the requests to send and receive data.

  • Patent number: 7142591
Abstract: A system for oversubscribing a pool of modems comprises at least one digital signal processor and a switch. The digital signal processor is configured as a variable number of high speed data modems and a variable number of low bandwidth synchronization modems. A communication bus is connected to the digital signal processor for configuring the processor, connecting the system to external devices, and communicating status information with external devices. The high speed data modems and low bandwidth synchronization modems are connected, via the switch, to customer premise equipment devices. Active data and synchronization data is transferred between the high speed data modems, the low bandwidth synchronization modems, and respective customer premise equipment devices. The synchronization modems consume significantly less power than the high speed data modems.

  • Patent number: 7123594
Abstract: A method for processing a signal and a bearer separately in an ALL IP network system includes the steps of: transmitting a service request message (SRM) from a mobile station (MS) to a radio network (RN); at the RN, determining whether a circuit related service or a packet related service is requested; if the circuit related service is requested: (i) transmitting a CM service request message to a MSC server, (ii) receiving a service request acknowledgement (SRA) message from the MSC server, and (iii) assigning a bearer in response to the SRA message; and if the packet-related service is requested: (i) transmitting the (SRM) from the RN to a core network without processing the SRM; (ii) at the core network, processing the SRM and transmitting an assignment request to the RN, the assignment request requesting that the RN assign the bearer; and (iii) assigning the bearer in response to the assignment request.

  • Publication number: 20060222137
Abstract: A delay buffer includes a first shift register receiving input data and having a shift signal input port. The first shift register right shifts the input data responsive to a shift signal on the shift signal input port. The shift signal is determined based on an effective bit width of the input data. A first delay line receives the shifted data from the first shift register while a second delay line of equal length to the first delay line receives the shift signal. A second shift register receives the output from the first delay line and receives the output of the second delay line on a shift signal input port. The second shift register then left shifts the data contained therein according to the shift signal.

  • Patent number: 7116674
Abstract: An architecture for stacking DSLAMs employs a master DSLAM having a control circuit and an uplink communication circuit to a central office and two LVDS circuits for communication with two DSLAM boxes in adjacent circuit interconnection to the master DSLAM. Multiple slave DSLAMs each having a programmable control circuit and two LVDS circuits for communication with two DSLAM boxes immediately adjacent on either side in the circuit are connected in a ring or split stack arrangement. A control circuit in the master selectively programs the control circuits in each slave DSLAM to control the direction of communication in the LVDS circuits as round robin in a first selected mode and a split in a second selected mode to accommodate the desired structure.

  • Patent number: 7099650
Abstract: While one node (such as a wireless mobile node) facilitates a point-to-multipoint communication via a communications network (10), communication requests from other nodes in the multipoint audience are queued in a node queue (17). At some point (in a preferred approach, at the conclusion of the transmission by the one node), and typically for a predetermined amount of time, communication requests are further noted. These more recent indicia of a desire to communicate are then utilized to modify the node queue. Subsequent communications are then arranged, at least in part, based upon the modified node queue.

  • Publication number: 20060187838
Abstract: A method for load balancing communication session processing in a data network platform. The method includes maintaining a first table that associates a plurality of valid communication sessions being processed by the platform with respective application processing cards of a plurality of application processing cards included in a network platform. The method also includes maintaining a second table associating respective activity loads with the plurality of application processing cards. The activity loads are monitored, and if the activity load of a given application processing card exceeds a predetermined limit, the method includes identifying a valid communication session (or sessions) being processed by the given application processing card to be moved to another application processing card. The method then further includes moving the identified communication session to the other application processing card.

  • Patent number: 7082130
Abstract: A system and methods are shown for providing packet data serving node (PDSN) redundancy. One exemplary method includes providing an access node with a plurality of packet data serving nodes and at least one system manager, establishing an N to 1 redundancy of active to standby PDSNs. Upon establishing a communications session with a mobile node, each active PDSN provides state updates to the standby PDSN including only non-recoverable data. Upon failure of any active PDSN, the standby PDSN reassigned as an active PDSN replacing the failed unit and assuming the communications session with the mobile node. The remaining active PDSNs are notified of the reassignment and transmission of updated state data is discontinued.

  • Patent number: 7080151
Abstract: A method and system for Mobile Internet Protocol (IP) device redundancy. As mobile devices roam away from a home network and change a connective status, mobility binding records are sent to a multicast network address on the home network. The multicast network address multicasts the mobility binding records to other active Mobile IP home agent control nodes, standby home agent control nodes and standby home agents on the home network. The method and system allows standby home agent control nodes or standby home agents to be transparently switched for active home agent control nodes or active home agents that fail without downloading or uploading large numbers of mobility binding records after a failure. The method and system may also help reduce failed calls (e.g., data sessions including Voice over IP (VoIP), H.323, etc.), network congestion and improve user satisfaction in Mobile IP systems.

  • Publication number: 20060149814
Abstract: A communications system is capable of knowing presence status of mobile communications devices such as cellular transceivers. An access gateway such as, for example, a PDSN access gateway or home agent access gateway, manages access to a mobile communications device. The access gateway knows the presence status of the mobile communications device and reports it to a presence server. The access gateway can know the presence status using attributes obtained during management of system operation by the access gateway.

  • Publication number: 20060146796
Abstract: Unicast delivery of media to multiple recipients is achieved. An originating client issues call setup request. A list of addresses of multiple recipient clients is obtained from the call setup request. A connection is then made with the plurality of recipient clients and the media is delivered from the originating client to the plurality of recipient clients. A universal user port agent receives the list of addresses from the originating client and makes the connection with the plurality of recipient clients. When an originating client receives a reply message that a recipient client is unavailable, it may be built with the capability to search for alternate addresses and send a new call setup request.

  • Publication number: 20060146795
Abstract: An initial call is setup by a universal port user agent by sending an invitation to the proxy server. The proxy server performs a directory lookup from a back end server to obtain route information to a destination. The route information is passed to the universal port user agent in response and is stored in the universal port user agent. When subsequent calls to the same destination are requested, the subsequent calls can be setup using the stored route information. A universal port user agent performs these call setups. The route information memory is managed based on a number of routes stored and the age of the stored routes. In certain embodiments the calls are setup using the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP).
