Abstract: A portable rechargeable electric lantern comprises: a head lamp; a handle coupled to the head lamp; a base coupled to the handle by a pivot coupling; a cavity housing an AC connector in the base; an AC-to-DC adapter housed in the base and coupled to the AC connector; and a rechargeable battery housed in the base and coupled to the AC-to-DC adapter, where the battery is recharged when the AC connector is coupled to an AC power source.
Abstract: A controller for controlling a voltage applied to a load from a power source includes a square wave producing circuit for connection in the circuit with the battery and the lamp. The square wave producing circuit produces a variable duty cycle square wave for controlling application of power to the load in accordance with the duty cycle of the square wave. The square wave producing circuit has a control input for varying the duty cycle of the square wave in response to a voltage at the control input. A voltage varying circuit is connected to the power source for producing a selectively variable voltage that is fed to the control input of the square wave producing circuit for selectively adjusting the duty cycle of the square wave.

Abstract: A battery charger includes a supply voltage unit supplying a power supply voltage, a constant current generator receiving the power supply voltage and outputting a substantially constant current, and a timer whose output is coupled to the constant current generator. The timer outputs the timer output in response to a transition in the power supply voltage. The supply voltage unit changes a magnitude of the power supply voltage in response to the timer output so that the substantially constant current is changed from a first current level to a second current level.
Abstract: A flashlight is provided. The flashlight includes a housing having a first end and a second end. A first light source is disposed at the first end of the housing. A second light source is disposed at the second end of the housing. A battery is disposed in the housing. A selector selectively couples the first light source and the second light source to the battery.
Abstract: A portable jump starter/charger combination includes a housing and a jump starter battery enclosed within the housing for providing a first DC output. A battery charger is also enclosed within the housing and provides a second DC output. A function selector switch has a first input coupled to the first DC output of the jump starter battery, a second input coupled to the second DC output of the charger and an output coupled to battery cables. The function selector switch is operative to selectively connect one of the first and second inputs to the output of the function selector for either jump starting a vehicle with a dead battery or charging the dead battery through the pair of battery cables.
Abstract: A high frequency charger includes a charge circuit for charging a depleted battery and a boost circuit for jump-starting a vehicle. Two separate high frequency transformers are provided for the charge and boost circuits. A selector switch selectively activates at least one of the charging circuit and the boost circuit.
