A service provider may deliver the portal in an interactive programming guide sent to the set top boxes of its subscribers. The portal may be interactive such that subscribers may order or watch the content presented on the portal. A content provider may create or edit the portals and send the portals to the service provider. The delivery of the portal to the service provider by the content provider may be through an application programming interface.

Abstract: A method, a computer program product, and apparatus are provided for delivering information and commands regarding a media program. An advertisement is provided that allows a user to request more information about the media program by clicking on or otherwise selecting the advertisement. The information may be based on the identity of the user. The information may include programming guide information regarding the media program that is available to an associated set top box of the user. The user may also be able to send commands, such as record the media program or set up a reminder about the media program, through a DVR scheduling facility to the set top box. The set top box may be able to send an acceptance of the command or a notice of conflict to the user through the DVR scheduling facility.

Abstract: An approach is provided for providing auto-completion of information functions utilizing strings. Textual input is received from a user via an application, an auto-complete variable (e.g., string) is retrieved based on the textual input, wherein the auto-complete variable includes a plurality of trigger strings from a predetermined number of matched data, the auto-complete variable is transmitted to the application, wherein the application compares the textual input with the auto-complete variable, an indication is received from the application that a match is found based on the comparison of the textual input and one of the trigger strings, information is retrieved in response to the indication, and the information is transmitted to the application for auto-completion of the textual input.

Abstract: Methods and systems for mapping data from a network to memory. A node receives a data map from a network. The data map is reflective of characteristics of data associated with the data map. Based on the data map, the computer allocates a section of a memory of the computer. The computer also receives the data associated with the data map from the network and loads the received data into the allocated memory based on the data map. Thereafter, the computer may also get at least one search parameter, search the allocated memory for data that meets the at least one search parameter using the data map, and copy data that meets the at least one search parameter.

Abstract: An approach is disclosed for providing navigation information for a requested listing to a mobile device caller of a directory assistance call. If the caller selects an option to receive driving directions to the listing destination, the directory assistance provider forwards the listing address to a platform that correlates the address with location coordinates. The platform can poll the calling device to obtain GPS identifying data for the mobile device and derive mapping and routing information.

Abstract: An approach is provided for retrieving a system log. Packets that are destined for a predetermined network address and network port are detected and captured. The packets represent a log file corresponding to a customer premise equipment (CPE) for troubleshooting. A data file is generated to contain the log file, wherein the packets are discarded, by at a firewall, before reaching the predetermined network address and network port.

Abstract: An approach is provided for managing a software environment. A system file that includes information of a software environment is built. The system file is validated against one or more rules. A script is output and used to generate standardized configuration information for the software environment.
