Abstract: Disclosed herein is a smokers' pyrophoric lighter wherein the usual pawl and ratchet mechanism by which an actuator turns the spark wheel is replaced by a resiliently deformable friction-drive transmitting member, preferably a rubber or like elastomeric pad, the actuator being mounted so that the friction driving member can engage the spark wheel during the operative stroke and idle past the spark wheel on the return stroke.

Abstract: A hand tool, for example a garden pruner, has two members movable together or apart by handles connected to the members, a first one of the members having a surface accurately located with respect to a corresponding surface of the other member. The first mentioned surface is formed on a first part of the member which, at an intermediate stage in the assembly of the tool, is supported for tilting movement on a second part of the member to allow said surfaces to be accurately located relative to each other, after which the first and second parts are rigidly secured together by fixing means. As an example the hand tool can be a garden pruner, the first member comprising an anvil and the other member a blade cooperative with the anvil.
Abstract: A hand tool, such as a pruner, has two pivotally movable members which are biassed apart by a helical spring disposed in a slot in one of the members, the slot being arcuate about the pivotal axis of the members. One end of the spring abuts one end of the slot and the other end of the spring is engaged by a pin which projects into the slot from the other member.
Abstract: Compositions are disclosed having a physiological cooling action on the skin. The compositions contain as the active ingredient certain acyclic secondary and tertiary sulphoxides and sulphones.
Abstract: Compounds and compositions are disclosed having a physiological cooling action on the skin. The compositions contain as the active ingredient certain phosphine oxides. The compositions disclosed include toilet and cosmetic preparations, e.g. toilet water, after-shave lotions, soaps, cosmetic creams and lotions, dentifrices and cleansing tissues, and tobacco and tobacco preparations.
Abstract: Alkyl-substituted methanols are disclosed having the property of stimulating the cold receptors of the nervous system of the human body to produce a cold sensation and are used for this purpose in a variety of edible and topical preparations.
