Abstract: The present invention provides a magnetooptic device, a magnetooptic head, and a magnetic disk drive each capable of performing optically assisted magnetic recording and each having a small size, improved recording density, and a higher transfer rate. In a magnetooptic device, a magnetic circuit including a magnetic gap and a thin film magnetic transducer having a coil portion are stacked on the surface of a semiconductor laser. By the arrangement, optically assisted magnetic recording can be performed, small size and light weight are achieved, and higher transfer rate can be implemented.
Abstract: An internal filter includes a lower substrate and an upper substrate. Fluid passages are formed by etching grooves into the surface(s) of the upper and/or lower substrates, and/or in one or more intermediate layers. The filter pores extending between the fluid passages are formed by etching second grooves that fluidly connect the fluid passages. Two or more sets of the one or two intermediate layers can be implemented to provide additional filter passages and/or pores. Each set can be connected to a separate fluid source and/or a separate microfluidic device. In another internal filter, the inlet and outlet passages and the filter pores are formed on the same upper or lower substrate. The inlet and outlet passages are partially formed in a first step. In a second step, the inlet and outlet passages are completed at the same time that the filter pores are formed.

Abstract: An inorganic film base plate is produced with a process comprising the steps of: preparing a surface recess-protrusion base plate, which is provided with a recess-protrusion pattern on a surface, and forming an inorganic film along a surface shape of the surface recess-protrusion base plate, the inorganic film containing a plurality of pillar-shaped structure bodies, each of which extends in a direction nonparallel with the base plate surface of the surface recess-protrusion base plate. Force of physical action may then be exerted upon the thus formed inorganic film in order to separate an on-protrusion film region of the inorganic film and an adjacent on-recess film region of the inorganic film from each other.
Abstract: An action efficiency support apparatus includes a detection unit, a storage unit, a calculation unit and a judgment unit. The detection unit detects an activity to acquire activity information. The storage unit stores the activity information. The calculation unit calculates a probability pattern as to presence or absence of the activity in a predetermined period or a probability pattern a frequency of the activity in the predetermined period, based on the activity information. The judgment unit judges an effect of personal action based on the calculated probability pattern.
Abstract: A method comprises collecting printing information relating to an electronic document stored on a computer. The printing information comprises printing attributes according to which the electronic document should be printed. In response to input from a user of the computer, the method causes the electronic document and the printing information to be stored on a portable memory device temporarily connected to the computer. The method causes the electronic document and the printing attributes to be automatically supplied to a printing device after the portable memory device is disconnected from the computer and subsequently connected to the printing device. The method causes the printing device to print the electronic document with the printing attributes based solely on the electronic document and the printing information maintained within the portable memory device.

Abstract: An image communicating apparatus includes: a communicating control unit that controls an internet facsimile communication for transmitting/receiving control information and a packet containing image information based on a T.38 protocol; a loss detecting unit that detects a loss of the packet transmitted from a transmitting side in a stage for receiving the image information through the packet based on the T.38 protocol; a complementing information holding unit that holds complementing information for complementing the image information contained in the lost packet; and a complementation processing unit that complements the image information contained in the lost packet with the complementing information held by the complementing information holding unit if the loss of the packet is detected by the loss detecting unit.
Abstract: A first graph embedded in a Euclidean space is modeled by a globally rigid first model graph that includes all vertices and edges of the first graph and has a preselected maximum clique size. The modeling is configured to maintain the preselected maximum clique size by employing an edge adding process that replicates a vertex of a vertex pair connected by an edge. A mapping between vertices of the first graph and vertices of a second graph is computed by optimizing a mapping between vertices of the first model graph and vertices of the second graph.
Abstract: According to an aspect of the invention, an image forming apparatus includes an image correction unit and a determination unit. The image correction unit inserts a new pixel between pixels forming image data with a plurality of pixels printed using a plurality of print color materials arranged in a main scanning direction in order to correct the image width in the main scanning direction. The determination unit determines whether or not the image data is specified for print with a dot representing given information superposed. When the determination unit determines that the image data is specified for print with the dot superposed, a prohibition unit included in the image correction unit prohibits insertion of the new pixel into a pixel string of a print color material of a similar color to the print color material for the dot.
Abstract: A display control system includes: a display information acquisition section that acquires display information by using given account information; and a corrected display information creation section that, based on first display information acquired by the display information acquisition section using first account information and second display information acquired by the display information acquisition section using second account information different from the first account information, determines whether the display contents shown by the first display information are included in display contents shown by the second display information or not, selects part or all of the display contents shown by the first display information in accordance with a result of the determination, and creates corrected display information which includes the selected part of the display contents shown by the first display information.

Abstract: This is a novel xerographic marking system having a novel toner waste dispensing assembly. The assembly comprises a hermetically sealed outer box that houses a disposable waste toner container. The container is a biodegradable carton or bag that can be removed from the outer box when filled with waste toner. A feature of this invention is that the dispensing assembly can easily be retrofitted into existing marking systems. Also because the containers are inexpensive and biodegradable, the expensive prior art non-degradable waste containers and their adverse effect on the landfills can be avoided.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes an image carrier member, an intermediate transfer member, a transfer unit, a cleaning unit, and a driving controller. The image carrier member carries a toner image. The toner image carried on the image carrier member is first-transferred to the intermediate transfer member. The transfer unit second-transfers the toner image first-transferred to the intermediate transfer member onto a recording medium. The cleaning unit removes residual toner on the intermediate transfer member after the second transfer. The driving controller changes a driving time of the intermediate transfer member after completion of image formation in accordance with information about a life of the intermediate transfer member.
