Abstract: The system and process enable a printer to more realistically apprise whether internal components require additional power in order for them to be ready for use. The process includes detecting a user operating a device that is coupled to a printing device and setting a higher power consumption level for the printing device in response to the detection of the user operation. This process may be enhanced by compiling a printing device usage profile for each user of the printing device and determining whether the usage profile indicates the power consumption level is to be increased in response to the detection of the user operation.
Abstract: A xerographic printing system and method of printing that includes two photoreceptor drums, each configured to enable printing with a different type of toner, a first pathway that connects the two photoreceptor drums, a second pathway that bypasses either of the photoreceptor drums, and an intermediate transfer belt, configured for either a one or two pass architecture, for transferring an image created by the toner to print media. This system and method of printing is specially adapted to enable efficient use of different combinations of toners within one printing system. In one embodiment, this system is able to limit use of a special toner to situations where one photoreceptor drum is not in bypass mode, thus conserving the more expensive special toner.
Abstract: A printing control device includes: a banner data detecting unit that detects banner data from print data; a data acquiring unit that acquires, when the banner data are detected by the banner data detecting unit, data for designating a printing condition for printing a text located after the banner data in the print data; and a printing condition setting unit that sets, when the data for designating the printing condition for printing the text are acquired by the data acquiring unit, the printing condition as a printing condition for printing the print data.
Abstract: In the image forming apparatus, a color shift correction execution check unit detects positions of density correction patches of respective colors according to binary signals of density detection outputs by a density sensor on the density correction patches. When distances corresponding to intervals of time from starts of image drawing of the density correction patches of the respective colors to the detection of the positions of the density correction patches of the respective colors and distances between the density correction patches of the respective colors are shifted from a value, the color shift correction execution check unit determines color shift correction processing is required to be executed, and it gives an instruction to a color shift correction control unit to execute the color shift correction processing. And the color shift correction control unit forms a color shift correction patch to execute the color shift correction processing.
Abstract: An optical recording display medium comprises: a display layer whose display changes according to an applied voltage; a photoconductive layer that is provided opposing the display layer and changes a voltage applied to the display layer according to irradiated light; and a selective transmission layer that is provided on a light path to where light irradiated toward the photoconductive layer arrives at the photoconductive layer, and whose transmissivity with respect to the irradiated light increases as an intensity of the irradiated light increases.
Abstract: A discussion support apparatus includes a holding unit, an accepting unit and a generating unit. The holding unit holds pieces of discussion state information each indicating a state of a discussion at a corresponding one of points in time included in a period of time during which discussions are performed. The accepting unit accepts a discussion start operation indicating a start of discussion on a topic for which discussion has been started. The generating unit generates, based on one or more of the pieces of discussion state information indicating states of discussions at points in time before a point in time when the accepting unit accepts a discussion start operation for a certain topic, topic-related information indicating at least one piece of discussion state information which is related to the certain topic and which is specified from among the one or more of the pieces of discussion state information.
Abstract: A position measurement system includes a marker set attached to an object, a camera and a computing apparatus. The marker set includes three or more directed basic markers each having a shape indicating a direction. The directed basic markers are oriented in directions toward a specific point. A positional relationship among the directed basic markers is known. The camera includes a two-dimensional imaging device configured to take an image of the marker set. The computing apparatus computes at least one of a position of the object and an angle of the object based on an image, taken by the camera, of the directed basic markers, which are oriented in the directions toward the specific point.
Abstract: A method of handling documents which can be imaged and erased comprises entry of a scheduled time which a device such as a multipurpose imager and eraser has a low probability of being used. At the scheduled time, erasure of transient documents to be erased is initiated. A transient document to be erased is transported from a first transient document storage area to an erasure area where it is erased, then transported to a second, erased transient document storage area. Upon receipt of a user interrupt during the scheduled erasure, any partially erased transient document is returned to the first transient document storage area for later erasure. The method thus allows for more efficient use of equipment resources, for example in an office environment.
Abstract: A light-emitting device includes: a substrate; a reflection layer that is provided on the substrate, and that reflects light in a wavelength band set in advance; and a light-emitting layer that is provided on the reflection layer, and that includes a light-emitting region emitting light having wavelengths overlapping in the wavelength band and a surface having unevenness at plural distances from the reflection layer. The surface is provided on a side opposite to the reflection layer across the light-emitting region. The plural distances are set so that wavelengths forming standing waves depending on each of the distances in the wavelength band are interposed each other.
Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes: an image bearing body on which surface an image is formed and borne; an image forming section that forms the image; a transfer device that transfers the formed image to a transferring body; a cleaning member that comes into contact with the surface of the image bearing body to scrape an adhesion substance after the image is transferred; a storage tank in which the removed adhesion substance is stored; a damming member that obstructs a region between the cleaning member and the storage tank to temporarily dam the adhesion substance moving from the cleaning member to the storage tank on the cleaning member side, the damming member including overlapped members having openings, the members including a movable member that is slidable with respect to other member; and a driving section that drives the movable member to change an overlapping amount between the openings.

Abstract: An image writing unit includes an image writing member writing images to an image holding member on a recording device body, a support mechanism including a supporting section allowing the writing member to be supported on a cover opened and closed for the device body, and a supported section on the member to be supported, the support mechanism supporting the writing member on the cover when the cover opens, and a positioning mechanism including a positioning section on the device body for positioning the writing member, and a positioned section on the member to be positioned, the positioning mechanism positioning the member for the holding member depending on a relationship between the positioning and positioned sections when the cover is closed. The supporting or supported section has a guide surface along a direction perpendicular to the open/close direction, and the other section allows the writing member to swing upon positioning the member.
Abstract: Exemplary embodiments provide a fuser member containing an interfacial layer and methods for forming the interfacial layer and the fuser member. In one embodiment, the fuser member can include a substrate, a resilient layer, a surface layer and an interfacial layer disposed between the resilient layer and the surface layer. The resilient layer can include, for example, a silicone rubber layer and the surface layer can include, for example, a fluoropolymer such as a fluoroplastic of PFA or PTFE. The interfacial layer can include a diamond-containing polymer composite to provide improved thermal/electrical/mechanical properties. The surface layer and the fuser member can thus be treated at a temperature of about 250° C. or higher with high quality and an improved adhesion between layers of the fuser member.

Abstract: An apparatus, method, and a computer program product are provided for improving the translation quality of text when a text sequence, such as a sentence, includes a parenthetical part delimited by a separator or separators, such as parentheses, quotation marks, or the like. The apparatus applies an algorithm which is configured for using several methodologies in sequence to identify an optimum position for insertion of the translated parenthetical in the main part of the translated text sequence. As a result, the translated parenthetical is more likely to be correctly delimited by separators and more likely to be correctly placed in the main part than in a conventional translation system which automatically translates each sentence as a whole.

Abstract: In accordance with the invention, there are fuser subsystems including a fuser member and methods of making a member of the fuser subsystems. The fuser member can include a substrate and a top-coat layer disposed over the substrate, the top-coat layer including a plurality of fluorinated nanoparticles substantially uniformly dispersed throughout a bulk of a fluoropolymer to provide a continual self-releasing surface to the top-coat layer.
