Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a document-image forming section, a code-image forming section and an acquisition section. The document-image forming section forms a document image on a medium. The code-image forming section forms on the medium a code image containing position information, which is used to specify a position on a surface of the medium. The acquisition section acquires a position shift amount between the document image and the code image, which are formed on the medium.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for sensor calibration to obtain transfer efficiency measurements in a reprographic device from a pair of optical toner mass sensors, one located before and one located after transfer. Individual sensors differ (mounting variation, electrical component variation, etc.) in their response to a common sample. Because of low mass levels in transfer efficiency measurements it is essential to reduce sensor to sensor differences. Disclosed is a method of calibrating the sensors to each other by utilizing each sensor's response to at least two identical mass levels. Actual mass levels do not need to be known (except for the zero mass which is easy to ensure) and the individual sensor sensitivities do not need to be known since the ratio of responses yields the necessary sensor characterization. This method does not require unique calibrations among sensors and results in a more accurate and precise measurement of transfer efficiency.

Abstract: This invention involves a kit or cartridge useful in installing an endless belt into a belt-containing system such as a xerographic marking system. The cartridge has a sheath to house all of the components of the cartridge. These components are: a traveling roller having a turn handle or knob, a belt to be installed, gear racks on which the traveling roller will move; these would probably be located in the machine, internal cartridge rolls, and conduits in the internal cartridge rolls. The belt is looped around the traveling roll on one of its ends and wound around the internal cartridge rolls on its other end. The belt will unwind from around these internal cartridge rolls as the traveling roll moves away from these cartridge rolls.
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for controlling substrate flatness for sensor measurements in printing device using vacuum and/or the flow or air. A source of low pressure, such as a vacuum, may be provided. A printed sheet of media may be transported between upper and lower transport baffles that are generally spaced apart to permit the sheet of media to pass. Located on one of transport baffles may be a sensor to measure a property of the printed sheet. The source of low pressure is connected to the one of the transport baffle so as to draw the surface of the sheet toward the sensor. In addition, air flow may be directed to the opposite surface of the sheet to urge it toward the sensor.

Abstract: A xerographic marking engine adjusts a charging actuator value, such as an AC peak-to-peak voltage or an AC peak-to-peak current, based on a determined knee value, VKNEE, of a charge curve for an imaging apparatus photoreceptor within the xerographic marking engine and environmental sensor data. The environmental sensor data may measure environment temperature and environment humidity. In near A-zone [80 degrees Fahrenheit and 80 percent relative humidity] environments, the charging actuator value may be selected to achieve a predetermined photoreceptor wear rate that avoids print quality defects due to lateral charge migration. In other than A-zone environments, the charging actuator value may be selected to minimize the photoreceptor wear rate, while avoiding print quality defects. The described approach allows optimal photoconductor wear to be achieved, in all operational environments, without increasing the risk of print quality defects.
