Abstract: A printing system and method includes at least two modules, at least one of which is a marking engine module. In the method, one or more sheets to be printed are submitted. Available paths are determined for one of the one or more sheets and a preferred available path is determined and submitted to one or more of the plurality of modules. A reservation matrix representative of the one of the one or more sheets being scheduled on the preferred available path is updated. The steps of determining the available paths, determining a preferred available path, submitted the preferred available path and updating the reservation matrix are repeated for each subsequent sheet of the one or more sheets of the print job.
Abstract: An improved development system for an electrophotographic system includes a reload defect detector for generating a signal corresponding to a potential for reload defect detected in an image to be developed by an electrophotographic system; and a magnetic roll speed selector for selecting a rotational speed for a magnetic roll in a development system of the electrophotographic system, the selected rotational speed corresponding to the generated reload defect potential signal. The speed of the magnetic roll is selected to be a lower speed in response to the potential for reload defect being relatively low. The slower rotation of the magnetic roll prolongs the life of the developer and extends the operational life of the development system before corrective action is needed.

Abstract: Characteristics of text or text components or features are considered when selecting halftoning screens. For example, an italic slant angle of text is recognized and used to select or generate a compatible halftone screen oriented at the same angle. A screen frequency may be selected based on a thickness of a text component. Descriptive tags associated with text or text components facilitate screen selection. Tags are assigned based on font descriptions included in a document during authoring. Alternatively, tags are assigned based on the results of document segmentation and character recognition techniques. An image processing system operative to consider characteristics of text or text components when selecting halftone screens includes a text component characteristic recognizer, a halftone screen selector and a halftoner. Optionally a print engine is also included. In a xerographic environment the print engine includes a xerographic printer.

Abstract: The invention enables a provider and a retailer of digital contents to issue an electronic license to a consumer without wasting its own resources. A retailer sells digital contents to a consumer via the Internet. The retailer requests a license-issuing center to issue an electronic license corresponding to the digital contents and the user of the contents and receives the generated license. The user receives the license from the retailer via the Internet. The terminal used by the user certifies that he/she is a legitimate user using his/her license when he/she uses the digital contents provided from the provider. When the license is verified, the user can use the digital contents.
Abstract: While names of data and icons are displayed on a selection-purpose display medium, a user selects data. Since the selection-purpose display medium is constituted by such a display medium capable of displaying a moving picture, operability by the user may be guaranteed. The content of the data which is selected by the selection-purpose display medium is displayed on a contents-display-purpose display medium. Since the contents-display-purpose display medium is constituted by a display medium having a memory characteristic, power consumption may be reduced, and this display medium having the memory characteristic may be dismounted. Since the display screen for the selection operation and the display screen for the contents display operation are separately provided, the user can perform the work by viewing the content of the data in correspondence with the data, so that the work efficiency can be increased.
Abstract: A communication terminal device which has a network control unit for controlling connection with a network according to call set-up information from the network, wherein the network control unit is provided with a first communication control unit which is connected to the network, a control unit which has a built-in memory and judges whether it is receivable according to call set-up information from at least the network according to an output of the first communication control unit, and a second communication control unit which has an outside memory for storing a control program and controls communication with the network, and the control unit operates the first communication control unit and the second communication control unit in a normal state, cuts off the power supply to the second communication control unit in a standby state to operate the first communication control unit so to judge whether it is receivable according to the call set-up information from the network, and when it is judged to be receiva
Abstract: Various settings are stored into a setting storage table for stop-key processing. These settings are related to a job kind where an operation is stopped by manipulating a stop key, a job kind where an operation is made to pause, and a job kind where an operation is continued without any interruption. When the stop key is manipulated, the job set to the stop operation is directly stopped, and the job set to the execution continuation is continuously executed. The jobs set to the pausing operations are displayed in a list. These jobs are selected one by one, or in a batch mode. Thereafter, either the stop operation or the restart operation is instructed. Accordingly, even under such an environment that a plurality of jobs are executed in a parallel manner; a desirable job can be quickly stopped, and moreover, lowering of throughputs of other jobs can be suppressed.

Abstract: A fault diagnosis section activates a driving component alone, measures an operation state signal and a paper passage time, and stores feature values (Vm, ?v, Tqs, ?ts) extracted as a determination reference in a storage medium. A paper passage fault determination section determines whether or not a fault has arisen on the basis of the paper passage time when an apparatus is under normal operating conditions. A diagnosis target block determination section determines an order to operate a detail fault diagnosis when it is determined that there is a plurality of diagnosis target blocks.
