Abstract: An image recording device transfers an image, which is formed on a photoconductor, onto a continuous sheet which is pressed against the photoconductor by a transfer roller. Cleaning of the transfer roller is carried out by applying a bias voltage to the transfer roller to return toner on the transfer roller toward the photoconductor. The cleaning is carried out when the transfer roller is in contact with a non-printing region of a reverse surface of the continuous sheet.

Abstract: In an image forming apparatus such as a color laser printer wherein a toner image is transferred onto a continuous paper, one or more of a exposure timing of each exposure device, a rotation speed of each image carrier device, a transfer bias voltage applied to each transfer device, and a wrap amount of each wrap device are controlled based on a coverage of a toner image formed on each image carrier device, thereby preventing a color-to-color registration state which tends to be caused due to a variation in the transport speed of the continuous paper in a transfer process.

Abstract: Document constraint descriptors are obtained from user signals. User signals are received indicating a set of attribute-value relations that can apply to documents. The user signals are used to obtain equivalent logical relations, and the logical relations are used to obtain the document constraint descriptor defining a set of one or more constraints equivalent to the logical relations. The user signals can be received through user interface circuitry of various types, including display/select user interfaces or a paper user interface in which a user marks a form that is scanned. The machine can be a portable computing device, a fixed computing device, or a multifunction device. The machine can also solve the set of constraints and can use the solution to obtain document references, such as Web URLs, indicating documents that satisfy the set of constraints. The user can then request more detail, or can obtain a printed version of a document.
Abstract: The present invention provides an optical deflector capable of reducing a rise in heat of integrated circuits and a housing without increasing noises caused by a wind sound of a rotative polygon mirror, and an optical scanner having the optical deflector. Heat in a lower face of an integrated circuit of a printed board can be allowed to escape by providing a through hole in a lower position of the integrated circuit. By bringing a radiating member into direct contact with the integrated circuit through the through hole, heat of the integrated circuit can be conducted to the radiating member and radiated. Therefore, a rise in a temperature of the housing can be reduced. As a result, life of a bearing can be prolonged and reliability of the integrated circuit can be increased.
Abstract: A xerographic printer or copier includes a replaceable cartridge having a cleaning blade and carrier particle pickoff member associated with a rotating charge receptor. As the cartridge is being used, carrier particles removed from the photoreceptor by the cleaning blade are magnetically retained on the pickoff member, where the remain for the balance of the lifetime of the cartridge. When a useable lifetime of the cartridge is spent, the carrier particles are removed from the pickoff blade.
