  • Patent number: 6999209
Abstract: A system electronically registers an image on an input document. The system includes a scanner for generating an image data stream representing an electronic image of the image on the input document and an edge detecting circuit for detecting edge data within the image data stream. A circuit detects a first corner of a leading edge of the input document based on the detected edge data and for establishing a first coordinate value therefrom and a second corner of a leading edge of the input document based on the detected edge data and for establishing a second coordinate value therefrom. The system further determines a minimum and maximum location for a leading edge of the scanned document and determines a minimum and maximum location for a trailing edge of the scanned document.

  • Patent number: 6995332
Abstract: The present invention provide a resistance welding method for solving the problem of breakage of the welded portion by corrosion of an iron-copper alloy layer having a poor corrosion resistance formed at the welding portion, when a first metallic member comprising an iron-based metal is joined to a second metallic member comprising a copper based metal, wherein the problem above is solved by forming a nickel film on at least one surface of the first metallic member comprising the iron-based metal and the second metallic member comprising the copper-based metal to be joined, and by applying resistance welding while the first metallic member is made to butt against the second metallic member, thereby forming the first alloy layer containing nickel, copper and iron at the side of the first metallic member, and the second alloy layer containing nickel and copper at the side of the second metallic member to allow the alloy layers to exhibit an excellent corrosion resistance.

  • Patent number: 6995872
Abstract: An error diffusion method is provided where a plurality of n error values derived from processing one or more previous scanlines of input pixel values are sub-sampled without the n error values being stored in a buffer to derive m error values (m<n). In one example, a reduction factor R is used according to m=n/R. In another example, a two-dimensional reduction operation is performed. The m error values, rather than the original n error values, are used as input for subsequent error diffusion operations. This allows for storage of m error values rather than n error values and, thus, error buffer requirements are reduced. Image quality has been found to be comparable to conventional error diffusion operations when the reduction factor used is maintained within reasonable limits. The sub-sampling operation can be accomplished according to any suitable method.

  • Patent number: 6996442
Abstract: An impending fault of a component operated within a closed-loop control system can be detected. The close-loop control system is disabled. An actuator of the closed-loop control system is operated at one or more test values. A sensor reading of the actuator is taken while that actuator is operated at the one or more test values. A warning is generated if an impending fault condition is detected. An impending fault condition may be detected if the component operates at a value exceeding a maximum defined operating value, if the component operates at a value below a minimum defined operating value, or if an operating range that is narrower than a defined full operating range for the component is detected.

  • Patent number: 6996723
Abstract: Integrity of data is to be ensured in a simple manner. A data verifier generates a signature generation request from data to be signed and signature request time, and sends the request to a data generator. The data generator extracts the data to be signed from the signature generation request, and its signature generation unit generates a signature for the data. A key generation unit generates a key from a previous key, the signature request time in the signature generation request, and the identifier of the data generator, and an encryptor encrypts the signature. After that, the encrypted signature and the like are returned to the data verifier, which generates a decrypting key with a key generation unit from the previous key, the signature request time, and the identifier of the data generator, then extracts an encrypted signature, and decrypts it with a decryptor. A signature verification unit checks whether or not the result of decrypting is the correct signature.

  • Publication number: 20060026128
Abstract: One aspect of the invention receives a plurality of possible list elements and determines a first document space size responsive to a first query that incorporates the possible list elements and defines a first document space. It also determines sizes of second document spaces using a second query set containing separate queries each of which incorporates a different proper subset of the candidate phrases and wherein each of the different proper subset has the same cardinality and defines one of the second document spaces. This aspect also ranks the first document space and the second document spaces. Once the document spaces are ranked, documents are identified so that list elements can be extracted from at least one of the identified documents and presented (for example, displayed, returned in a database, returned in response to a function or subroutine call, etc.).
