Abstract: Techniques are provided for predicting the usage of a document collection given proximal cue information in the documents, a starting point and the user's information needs. A document collection topology matrix is created indicating links between document content portions. The link entry documents are analyzed for proximal cue words based on link URL, surrounding text and title. For image links, the connected to document information may also be used. Proximal cue words are added to a matrix relating proximal cue words and links. The proximal scent matrix indicates a similarity between the user's information need and the proximal cue word matrix. A distal scent information matrix is also calculated using distal document information and combined with the proximal scent matrix. Spreading activation is then applied to the resulting matrix using the starting location for a requested number of iterations and resulting in a predicted usage of the document collection.

Abstract: An optical micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) switch is disclosed. In a preferred embodiment the optical MEMS switch is used as an M×N optical signal switching system. The optical MEMS switch comprises a plurality of optical waveguides formed on a cantilever beam platform for switching optical states wherein the state of the optical switch is changed by a system of drive and latch actuators. The optical MEMS device utilizes a latching mechanism in association with a thermal drive actuator for aligning the cantilever beam platform. In use the optical MEMS device may be integrated with other optical components to form planar light circuits (PLCs). When switches and PLCs are integrated together on a silicon chip, compact higher functionality devices, such as Reconfigurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexers (ROADMs), may be fabricated.
Abstract: An image-bearing article used in liquid contact electrostatic printing (CEP) is formed from polymers that meet the requisite conformance and heat stability for the CEP process. Excessive absorption of toner carrier liquids by the image-bearing article in liquid CEP leads to the deterioration of the image-bearing article and reduces the useful life of the image-bearing article. The absorption of the toner carrier fluid may be controlled by the addition of oxides, silicone elastomers containing phenyl end groups, fluorosilicones or increasing the cross-linking density of the methyl silicones.
