  • Patent number: 6669188
Abstract: A substrate tray includes a tall backstop guide that is attached to the bottom of the feed tray and which rotates about a vertical axis into three positions 45° apart, presenting four different surfaces to a stack of substrates in the tray. Each surface accommodates a different substrate size and thereby accommodates four different widths of substrates. The backstop guide includes a cam member that is flexed against a back wall of the tray when a load is applied to the backstop guide by the stack of substrates shifting inboard if the tray is pushed to forcefully into a machine after loading, in order to prevent skewing of the substrates.

  • Patent number: 6671711
Abstract: The present invention also provides a system and method for predicting user traffic flow in a collection of hypermedia documents by determining the association strength of the hypermedia links. Hypermedia links are identified among a plurality of documents, where the documents include content items such as keywords that may or may not be relevant to a user information need. The distribution of the content items in the document collection is then determined. An information item is received as input, and is compared to the content items. In response to the comparison, association strengths are assigned to the hypermedia links. A network flow model uses the association strengths of the hypermedia links to predict user traffic flow in response to an initial condition.

  • Patent number: 6671065
Abstract: A method and apparatus for prioritizing the use of multifunctional printing system's basic processing resources. The printing system employs a controller with an improved job contention manager (JCM). A plurality of basic resources of the printing system are provided with a queue. One or more job services, at desired times, signals the JCM to carry out a sub-job of a given job. The signal for each of the sub-jobs includes information about the respective sub-job and its priority. Responsive to the signal from the job service the JCM adds a corresponding basic resource sub-job to the queues of each basic resource which the sub-job will require to perform the sub-job. Each respective sub-job is ready for processing, when it is first in line in all the queues of all the basic resources required to perform the sub-job.

  • Patent number: 6671855
Abstract: A document outlining any work done on a workspace is to be automatically generated. A workspace history managing part holds the present and past states of a workspace together with history information on the manipulation performed on the workspace. A synthesis rule holding part holds synthesis rules for synthesizing information. A synthesizing part, working on history information managed by the workspace history managing part, synthesizes information in accordance with the synthesis rules held by the synthesis rule holding part, and thereby generates outline information. This dispenses with the need for a user to prepare documents stating the progress of his or her work, and reduces the user's workload correspondingly. Moreover, automatic generation of outline information makes the latest information available all the time.

  • Publication number: 20030234824
Abstract: What is presented is a system and method by which a visually impaired worker could easily and quickly navigate menu options on touch screen displays. An Audible Feedback ON/OFF Switch is provided which turns the audible feedback feature of the present invention on or off. The software monitoring which row/column areas of the touch screen's display grid have been touched by the user in response to a menu option selection is made switchable into one of two modes. A first mode is when the audible feedback feature is OFF or otherwise disabled. In this mode the software operates the touch screen's menu selections in the normal manner in which the machine is intended to perform. When a user selects an option, the option is immediately activated whether it be a machine activity or a jump to another level of menus. A second mode is when the audible feedback feature has been turned ON or otherwise activated.

  • Publication number: 20030236871
Abstract: What is disclosed is a system and method which enable a user of a networked device to communicate with the device by email and to receive a reply thereto which contains the installation software which assists the user to facilitate device setup and configuration prior to the subsequent operation thereof. The method involves a user first sending or otherwise initiating an email to a remote device such as a printer. In the alternative, the printer device gains access to one or more end user's email addresses. Once obtained, the printer device automatically sends a reply email back to the user, preferably with a greeting or other message, with a package attached thereto or otherwise associated therewith containing installation software along with other configuration software and tools.

  • Publication number: 20030237051
Abstract: A document management system is provided which organizes, stores and retrieves documents according to properties attached to the documents. Applications which function based on hierarchical path names communicate to the document management system through a translator. A tag is inserted into the path of a document to identify the document and represent a dynamic collection. The same tag is inserted into the path of files which support the document so that the supporting files are related to the document by the path tag. In this manner, the document management system identifies and locates all documents which are related to each other based on the tag. Thus, an application is provided with all related files even though the application may not know where the files are actually stored or retrieved from.

  • Publication number: 20030234262
Abstract: In a cleaning station for removing residual toner from a photoreceptor in a xerographic printing apparatus, the residual toner accumulates in a hopper, and an auger at the bottom of the hopper removes the accumulated toner. A thin, flexible member forming an agitator extends nearly vertically from the top of the hopper to the auger. Fingers at the end of the agitator contact the flights of the auger. There are between one and three more fingers than there are flights of the auger: the discrepancy causes an undulation of the agitator when the auger rotates.

  • Publication number: 20030234180
Abstract: Disclosed herein are a process for easily preparing an optical element in a form of thin film which contains a functional material whose concentration changes gradationally in an in-plane direction and a thickness direction of a thin film, an electrolytic solution used for the process, and an apparatus for preparing an optical element. The process is designed to form an optical element on an optical element preparing substrate from an electrolytic solution containing a functional material by electrodeposition or photovoltaic electrodeposition. The process includes a step of changing concentration of the functional material in the electrolytic solution in the vicinity of the optical element preparing substrate, so that a resulting thin film changes gradationally in the concentration of the functional material in the in-plane direction and/or the thickness direction of the thin film.
