Abstract: An image-forming system such as a copying machine or a printer with electrophotography. The image-forming system includes an image-creating unit, a fixing unit, a medium conveyance path, and a surface modification unit. The image-creating unit has an image-forming region and forms an image on a medium. The fixing unit fixes the image formed by the image-creating unit on the medium. The medium conveyance path extends to the image-forming region. The surface modification unit is placed along the medium conveyance path. The surface modification unit activates a surface of the medium.
Abstract: The present invention provides an image recording material as well as a protective film and an image display material using the same, the image recording material comprising at least: a transparent substrate; an image-receiving layer for forming an image by an electrophotographic system and disposed on one side of the substrate; and a function controlling means disposed on the other side of the substrate; wherein the image-receiving layer include a polyester resin which comprises a structural unit represented by the structural formula (I) and which has a number average molecular weight of 12,000 to 45,000:
Abstract: An image processing apparatus changes a pixel value of a pixel of interest in image data to be processed by a predetermined condition concerning a spatial frequency to generate corrected image data, and performs a predetermined coding process with regard to the corrected image data to generate coded data. Thus, processor load in the coding process can be reduced.
Abstract: Disclosed is a recording paper which comprises (a) a cellulosic base sheet having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface, said base sheet having a dielectric constant of at least about 1.5 under conditions of about 50 percent relative humidity and at about 23° C., said base sheet having a dielectric constant of no more than about 10 under conditions of about 50 percent relative humidity and at about 23° C., said base sheet having, under conditions of about 50 percent relative humidity and at about 23° C., a surface resistivity of at least about 1×107 ohms per square, said base sheet having, under conditions of about 50 percent relative humidity and at about 23° C., a surface resistivity of no more than about 1×1013 ohms per square; (b) on the first surface of the base sheet an image receiving coating comprising a monomeric or polymeric material, said image receiving coating having a glass transition temperature of at least about 55° C.
Abstract: The present invention relates to the manipulation of differential gloss as may be inherent in halftoned images. By selectively applying halftones with anisotropic structure characteristics which are significantly different in orientation while remaining identical in density, a gloss image may be superimposed within an image without the need for special toners or paper. Conventional copier systems will not typically be able to copy such a superimposed gloss image.

Abstract: In the image forming apparatus, when a RECEIVE PROCESSING UNIT receives program data downloaded from the outside, a transfer control unit judges whether the program data corresponds to the peripheral device connected to the image forming apparatus by comparing a type of the peripheral device identified by a peripheral device identification unit and the type of the peripheral device which can be specified with the downloaded program data. The transfer control unit judges that the program data is program data which corresponds to the connected peripheral device and transfers the program data to the peripheral device. In the peripheral device, a write control unit updates program data by writing the transferred program data to a data storage unit.
Abstract: A single printer driver controls operation of a plurality printers on a network. The driver includes a user interface, a controller/logic analyzer and a communications port. The user interface displays a composite of printer features of the plurality of printers in a host device on the network, receives a user request for a print job and user-selected properties from the composite of printer features for the print job. The controller/logic analyzer, responsive to the request for a print job, the user-selected print job properties and the printer features of the plurality of printers, selects which printer is to be used for the print job according to predetermined criteria. The communications port routes the print job and selected print job properties to the selected printer.
Abstract: Image processing apparatus comprises recording unit for recording a document on recording paper; selecting unit for selecting paper to be fed to the recording unit, the selected paper being suitable for a paper size specified in the document; first paper feed tray capable of performing paper feeding according to selection by the selecting unit; second paper feed tray incapable of performing paper feeding according to selection by the selecting unit; setting unit for setting that the first tray is inhibited from performing the paper feeding according to selection by the selecting unit; and paper feed control unit for allowing the second tray to feed the paper, if the setting unit has set that the first tray is inhibited from performing the paper feeding according to selection by the selecting unit or if the first tray cannot perform the paper feeding according to selection by the selecting unit.
Abstract: Provided are a photoreceptor of an electophotographic system satisfactorily high in resistance to contamination with a developer or corona products and durability to a contact electrification unit or a cleaning blade and capable of preventing occurrence of film defects in the production, and a process cartridge and an image forming apparatus in which a good image quality can be obtained over a long period of time. The photoreceptor includes a conductive substrate and a silicon compound-containing layer located on the substrate and containing a cyclic siloxane compound and/or derivatives thereof.
Abstract: An image forming system comprises a request analysis section which analyzes an input image forming process request and specifies a peripheral device for use in executing an image forming process and a judgment section to judge whether or not a version upgrade is performed in the peripheral device. A process execution control section executes the process when it is judged that no version upgrade is being performed in the peripheral device, and instructs an input/output section to display, via a report section, a message indicating a version upgrade being performed when it is judged that a version upgrade is being performed. In this manner, user convenience during version upgrade time is enhanced.
Abstract: A fluid cartridge for dispensing fluid, such as liquid ink for a drop on demand ink jet printer, includes a housing that encloses a capillary chamber, and has an outlet port through the one wall of the housing into the capillary chamber. Capillary material in the capillary chamber is arranged so that it has a higher density adjacent the outlet port than away from the outlet port, to enhance the flow of the fluid toward the outlet port. The interior of the capillary chamber is structured to provide greater compression to the capillary material around the outlet port, and provide stability to retain the variable compression of the capillary material.

Abstract: In-situ processes for making bichromal particles include forming particles having a one color and an anionic surface charge, and separately forming particles having another color and a cationic surface charge. The anionic and cationic particles are mixed, and aggregated to form bichromal aggregates. The aggregated particles are coalesced to form bichromal particles. The bichromal particles can be used in gyricon sheets and gyricon displays.
Abstract: This invention relates to the packaging and subsequent removal of dry marking materials that tend to clump or bridge when shipped or stored in containers. Human operators are presently instructed to agitate such containers before installation into a marking engine but such agitation is unreliable. The present invention involves placement of agitation vanes on a displaceable inner seal within the cartridge such that such vanes will break apart clumps and bridges of the marking material during installation of the container upon the marking engine.
