Abstract: Systems and methods that add motion lines that indicate motion in a still image include selecting two or more video fields or frames, compensating for global motion in the selected fields or frames, determining the difference between positions of pixels in the selected fields or frames, identifying regions of motion with pixels having a difference that is greater than a threshold value, identifying points of interest in the regions of motion, selecting pixels from the points of interest, determining the motion of the selected points of interest, and adding lines to the still image that extend from the selected pixels.
Abstract: An improved nanotip structure and method for forming the nanotip structure and a display system using the improved nanotip structure is described. The described nanotip is formed from a semiconductor having a crystalline structure such as gallium nitride. The crystalline structure preferably forms dislocations oriented in the direction of the nanotips. One method of forming the nanotip structure uses the relatively slow etching rates that occur around the dislocations compared to the faster etch rates that occur in other parts of the semiconductor structure. The slower etching around dislocations enables the formation of relatively high aspect ratio nanotips in the dislocation area.

Abstract: An economical display data conversion apparatus for reducing the cost of an LED printer includes a switch matrix circuit and a shift register, wherein the switch matrix circuit has the same number of output terminals as the number of LED cells of an LED array and a smaller number of input terminals than the number of output terminals, multiplies an input signal and outputs the multiplied signal when the LED array having high resolution is caused to emit light at the same resolution as resolution of printing data having a plurality of different kinds of low degrees of resolution, and the shift register includes the same number of registers as the number of input terminals of the switch matrix circuit cascaded with one another, and can cut a predetermined number of registers on the rear stage side by a select switch and a short-circuit.
Abstract: A MEMS-based adjustable mirror module allows faster, lower cost, and easier alignment of optical fibers in substrates. Movable mirrors formed on the substrate allow adjustment of the light path after the optical fiber is attached, after which the mirrors are affixed in place to prevent misalignment.

Abstract: In a presentation control system environment, the methods and systems of this invention manipulate presentation elements to create a unified display characteristic between the elements selected for presentation. In particular, the systems and methods of this invention receive style identification information that corresponds to at least one attribute tags within a presentation element. A stylizer then manipulates the attribute tags to invoke style preferences governed by the style identification. Therefore, a unified, or customized, look can be achieved with any requested presentation element.

Abstract: A reflective-type multi-color display device is capable of obtaining a vivid and bright multi-color display with less display layers, and therefore, with a state where a parallax is decreased and a cost of the device can be reduced. Specifically, the display device of the present invention includes a cell 51 having a display layer 31 comprising a right-handed cholesteric liquid crystal which selects and reflects blue, a cell 53 having a display layer 33 comprising a left-handed cholesteric liquid crystal which selects and reflects green, a cell 57 having a display layer 37 comprising a right-handed cholesteric liquid crystal which selects and reflects yellow and a cell 55 having a display layer 35 comprising a left-handed cholesteric liquid crystal which selects and reflects red, these layers being laminated in this order from the observation side. A color filter 43 which transmits red and absorbs the other color light is provided between the cell 57 and the cell 55.
Abstract: A reading scan controlling unit drives a scanning motor in accordance with a signal from a reading instructing unit and a line synchronous generating unit for scanning a document plural times in a slow-scanning direction, as well as controls a sensor driver to read a document image. At this time, an optical flat plate driving unit is controlled in the second and following scans to incline an optical flat plate provided in an imaging optical path at a predetermined angle in a fast-scanning direction, so that the imaging position on a CCD sensor in a fast-scanning direction is slightly changed. Further, the scanning speed is determined in accordance with the scanning times. An image reading device having such a construction can perform high-speed reading with high precision by using an image shift method.
Abstract: A sheet feeder is provided comprising at least two drives that drive a sheet of material along a paper path and at least two sensors that detect a lateral side of the sheet of material. A controller is connected to the two sensors and at least one of the drives. The controller varies the drive velocity of at least one of the drives to shift the lateral position of the sheet of material in a predetermined direction until one of the sensors detects the lateral side and then varies the velocity difference of the two drives to eliminate the skew of the sheet.

Abstract: An ink jet printing head includes a common ink channel and a plurality of ejectors (each of which includes a nozzle and a pressure generation chamber which is filled with ink supplied from the common ink channel) which are connected to the common ink channel for ejecting ink drops. The common ink channel is provided with an air damper, and acoustic capacitance Cp of the common ink channel per ejector is set based on acoustic capacitance Cn of the nozzle and acoustic capacitance Cc of the pressure generation chamber. For example, the acoustic capacitance Cp of the common ink channel per ejector is set so as to satisfy two conditions: Cp>Cn and Cp>20 Cc.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for preventing or inhibiting effective reproduction of documents such as currency, checks, stock certificates, and any other printed document including a pre-defined security mark printed therein. The subject method and apparatus operate to effect a multi-step review of all digital image data acquired from a printed document to be reproduced for purposes of locating any potential security marks and further examining same for purposes of positively identifying a potential security mark as an actual security mark. If a mark is located and verified to be an authentic security mark, effective reproduction of the printed document will not be permitted and/or other security measures will be taken.

Abstract: An information retrieval system having a secondary content analysis engine for use on collections of documents. Such collections of documents dynamically arise as a result of queries one or more, possibly distal, information sources. The secondary content analysis engine resides on an Information Access client computer system and allows the user to: 1) iteratively refine queries in more powerful ways than typically supported by relevance feedback or other query modification methods, 2) browse a medium-sized collection of documents (on the order of 1000 items) in more effective ways than is traditionally possible or 3) obtain more information for increasing user understanding of the collection.
Abstract: A method and system for the determination of toner usage in proportion to image-feature density, with independent estimation of each color toner module consumption. The system accurately accounts for image-wise color interactions due to color occlusion that may effect the actual amount of toner used by multiple color modules. The method includes a toner replenishment flow control process that responds to the toner consumption/depletion in the developer material (e.g., toner and carrier) as determined by one or more estimation modules, and thus maintains a stable and constant toner/carrier concentration ratio.
