  • Patent number: 6582138
Abstract: A method of creating an authenticatable sheet of material, includes measuring at least one physical property of the sheet of material; marking an edge of the sheet of material with indicia arranged to form a unique code identifying the sheet of material, wherein the sheet of material includes a first surface, a second surface disposed opposite the first surface and an edge extending between the first surface and the second surface and peripherally about the sheet of material; and recording the measured physical property in a measure database indexed by the edge code. To verify the validity of a sheet of material, the edge code is read, the same physical property is measured and the measured value is compared with the previously stored value extracted from the measure database. If the two are substantially equal, the sheet of material is authentic.

  • Patent number: 6584435
Abstract: An LED-based spectrophotometer uses a reconstruction algorithm, based on the spectral characteristics of the illumination source and the color sensing system, to convert integrated multiple illuminant measurements from a non-fully illuminant populated color sensor into a fully populated spectral curve using a reference database. The reference database contains training samples that indicate reflectance spectra and their corresponding LED sensor output. A dynamic, Karhunen-Loeve-based (DKL) spectral reconstruction algorithm, used to reconstruct spectra, gives greater importance to the data from the training samples in the neighborhood of the color sample under measurement. This is done using linear operators and basis vectors.

  • Patent number: 6584479
Abstract: A primary body of data is displayable on a screen and a supporting body of data is relatable to an annotation tag present in the primary body of textual data. An annotation tag having a predetermined size in the primary body of data is selected, and negotiations ensue between the primary body of data and the supporting body to determine a space into which the supporting body of data can be fitted while maintaining a substantially unobstructed view of the primary body of data. Generally, this negotiated space is sized larger than the original predetermined size of the annotation tag. An animation sequence is used to position the supporting body of data in the negotiated space.

  • Publication number: 20030113133
Abstract: A driving apparatus transmits a driving force from a drive source to a driven body via a multiple-stage gear train (including, for example, gears). In the multiple-stage gear train, the speed fluctuation phase of a mesh frequency occurring at each mesh point of the gear train including the gears to a target gear is set in a range in which the speed fluctuation amplitude of the target gear positioned downstream at the third stage or later is equal to or less than the speed fluctuation amplitude of the immediately preceding mesh gear positioned upstream. The invention also applies to an image formation apparatus using the drive as a drive of a driven body.

  • Publication number: 20030111518
Abstract: A method and apparatus for depositing solder paste on a printed wiring board has a stencil with a pattern of multiple apertures. The pattern aligns with a through-hole in the printed wiring board when the stencil is in physical contact with the printed wiring board. A squeegee arrangement applies solder paste through the multiple apertures in the stencil through the through-hole of the printed wiring board to the upper surface of the printed wiring board for securely mounting electronic components to the upper surface of the printed wiring board, for providing a thermal path for the heat sinks of the electronic components and for providing a low inductance electrical path to ground for the electrical components.

  • Publication number: 20030112298
Abstract: A common electrode and a signal electrode are separately formed on two major faces of each of tabular piezoelectric actuator elements arrayed on a substrate. On a flexible printed circuit board, formed are electric bonding pads, which are to be electrically connected with the substrate of the actuator elements. A semi-spherical bump including a conductive core and a conductive sealant is formed on each of pads. The actuator elements having substrate is made to face the flexible printed circuit board, and heated under pressure to thereby electrically bond the signal electrodes (at their electric bonding area) to the corresponding bumps. Thus bonded, there exists a gap around the core, and it allows the actuator area of the signal electrode to act completely free, not interfered with any other.
