Abstract: A domain block extracting unit extracts a domain block image from an original image. A range block extracting unit extracts a range block image from an area in the vicinity of the domain block image. The range block image has size being larger than a domain size and being smaller than an enlarged size. A reduced range block forming unit reduces the range block image to the domain size to produce a reduced range block image. A similarity judging unit compares each of the reduced range block images with the domain block image to select the highest similarity range block image. An enlarged range block forming unit forms an enlarged range block image by enlarging the size of the highest similarity range block image to an enlarged size thereof. An enlarged image acquiring unit produces an enlarged image of an original image by employing the respective enlarged range block images.

Abstract: In order to solve the problem, there is provided a charging device having: a roll-like charging member disposed in contact with a surface of a member to be charged and for charging the surface of the member to be charged; wherein: the charging member includes a conductive substrate, and at least an elastic layer and a surface layer applied sequentially onto a surface of the conductive substrate; and opposite end portions of the surface layer axially project beyond opposite end portions of the elastic layer respectively, while the opposite end portions of the surface layer are made to cover the elastic layer and made open.
Abstract: Efficient methods are disclosed for fabricating spring structures in which a passive, conductive coating is deposited onto the spring structure after release. A release layer is deposited on a substrate and then a spring metal layer is formed thereon. A first mask is then used to etch the spring metal layer to form a spring metal finger. A second (release) mask is then deposited that defines a release window used to remove a portion of the release layer and release a free end of the spring metal finger. The second mask is also used as a mask during the subsequent directional deposition of a conductive coating material on the cantilevered tip of the finger. The second mask is then stripped, and the residual coating deposited thereon is lifted off. The resulting spring structure includes conductive coating on the upper surface and front edge of the finger tip.
Abstract: A method of processing a pixel of interest within an image receives colors defining a plurality of pixels within a neighborhood of pixels including the pixel of interest and a plurality of respective surrounding pixels. A determination is made as to whether a border exists between first and second regions within the neighborhood of pixels. If the border exists, it is determined if the border exists within the pixel of interest. If the border exists within the pixel of interest, a first color is identified on a first side of the border and a second color is identified on a second side of the border. If the border exists within the pixel of interest, respective amounts of coverage are identified for the first and second colors within a scaled up pixel corresponding to the pixel of interest. The scaled up pixel is printed.
Abstract: A solid ink stick loader for loading solid ink into a printer. The loader includes a chute having at least one feed channel, a lower ink guide located within the at least one feed channel, and a push block located within the at least one feed channel, wherein the push block includes a guide following portion that at least partially engages the lower ink guide.
Abstract: A system for automatically generating indexes for handwritten notes captured as digital ink in a computer is disclosed. Ink words are identified, and features of the ink words are computed. Pairwise distances or match scores, which measure the distance in the features between two ink words, are calculated. A clustering technique selects equivalence classes of ink words. Index terms, which are non-uniform through-out the notes, are selected from the equivalence classes of ink words. The system generates an index from the index terms, including displaying pages numbers where the index terms are located in the notes as well as hyper-linking the index terms. A technique to identify a threshold for use in clustering the ink words is also disclosed.

Abstract: A printing processing method and an apparatus therefor, wherein clients 1 set printing starting conditions for objects to be printed and issue a printing request, a job control section 43 starting subjecting the object to be printed to a printing process when a printing condition control section 42 of a print server 4 has detected that the printing starting conditions have been satisfied.
Abstract: The present invention allows even small-size verification devices to authenticate rights and qualifications without leaking authentication characteristic information to third parties. A ticket issuance device computes document private information &mgr; from a private function f of an interaction device owned by a user and document m to be transferred to the interaction device when generating interaction, and issues ticket t generated from authentication characteristic information x and the document private information &mgr; to the user. The interaction device, when document m is input, generates document private information &mgr; using a private function f specific to the interaction device, and performs interaction based on the document private information. The interaction comprises output of commitment r, input of challenge &khgr;, output of response &sgr;, and message M output.
Abstract: A system and method for browsing, retrieving, and recommending information from a collection uses multi-modal features of the documents in the collection, as well as an analysis of users' prior browsing and retrieval behavior. The system and method are premised on various disclosed methods for quantitatively representing documents in a document collection as vectors in multi-dimensional vector spaces, quantitatively determining similarity between documents, and clustering documents according to those similarities. The system and method also rely on methods for quantitatively representing users in a user population, quantitatively determining similarity between users, clustering users according to those similarities, and visually representing clusters of users by analogy to clusters of documents.
