  • Patent number: 6493011
Abstract: In a color registration deviation correction method or an image forming apparatus, a pattern image is read out, a color registration deviation amount is detected, and a correction amount of the color registration deviation is calculated. On the basis of the calculated correction amount, it is judged whether correction can be made in an interimage period. In the case where the correction can be made in the interimage period, the color registration deviation correction is made in the interimage period, and in the case where the correction can not be made in the interimage period, the color registration deviation correction is made in the two interimage periods.

  • Patent number: 6491375
Abstract: An integrated printhead package for acoustic ink printing includes a plurality of layers. Each of the layers is stacked against one of the other layers. A reservoir is defined within the layers and contains a first fluid. One of the layers forms a plate for covering an open side of the reservoir. The plate has apertures for passing the first fluid from the reservoir to an exterior area. A passage, formed by at least one of the stacked layers, communicates with the reservoir and the exterior area. The first fluid passes through the passage. At least one of a pressure sensor and a temperature sensor are located within the layers. The pressure sensor and temperature sensor measures a pressure and temperature, respectively, of the first fluid.

  • Patent number: 6491368
Abstract: A priming system for selectively priming one of the two printheads of a multicolor ink jet printer. When one of the printheads require periodic priming, the printheads are transported to the printer's maintenance station where individual caps are moved to cover the nozzle faces of the printheads. The priming system has two individual peristaltic pumps, each one of which is connected to a respective one of the caps. The two peristaltic pumps have a single mechanical input to drive selectively one of the pumps and not the other by a positionable swing gear. Each one of the pumps is adapted to prime only one of the printheads. The swing gear engages the drive gear of one pump when the direction of rotation of the input is clockwise and the swing gear engages the drive gear of the other pump when the direction of rotation of the input is counterclockwise.

  • Patent number: 6493009
Abstract: An image forming apparatus, applicable to copying machines, facsimile apparatuses and printers, controls pixel positions with high precision. An image of color material is formed on the surface of an image holding drum. The surface of the image holding drum divides into a number of pixel areas, and each pixel area has an adhesive-force change portion smaller than the pixel area, where adhesive force to color material changes by a predetermined stimulus. An image-signal input unit forms an image by distribution of adhesive force to the color material on the surface of the image holding drum by inputting a stimulus corresponding to an image signal into the image holding drum. A color material supply unit supplies color material particles to the surface of the image holding drum.

  • Publication number: 20020184166
Abstract: A method for problem solving in a computer system includes an applications module for sending a problem statement to a complexity module, which configures a solving module with configuration parameters and also determines expected problem solver behavior. The solving module selects a set of parameter configuration vectors, determines a set of search space points, performs a partial search based on the parameter configuration vectors, and determines actual problem solver behavior. The solving module then determines whether a problem solution has been found, whether to perform a solver iteration step or request a complexity module to perform an adaptation step.

  • Publication number: 20020180852
Abstract: A drip plate design is provided for a solid ink color printer which reliably directs on-demand ink flow and securely retains solidified ink. The drip plate design includes a combination of one or more sized and shaped cutouts and protrusions for anchoring a solidified ink stick when the printer is not in operation and protrusions that impede downward movement of independent portions of an ink stick so that they remain in contact with a heated melt plate long enough to substantially melt, thereby inhibiting the unchecked sliding off of large separated slivers and chunks of ink during melt and delivery.

  • Publication number: 20020180755
Abstract: A data processor identifies a source format and a destination format of data. The data processor determines whether a fast data conversion path, such as a direct lookup table, is available to convert one or more portions of the data from the source format to the destination format, and converts the data using the fast data conversion path where possible. For portions of the data not convertible by a fast data conversion path, the data processor performs a two-step conversion process in which the data is first converted from the source format to an intermediate format and then from the intermediate format to the destination format.
