Patent number: 5898449Abstract: An ink cartridge for an ink jet printer has an ink supply in a housing, a printhead fixedly attached thereto, and an interface seal between the housing and printhead. The ink is contained in an absorbent material in the housing which is partitioned from the printhead assembly by a housing wall having a vent and an ink outlet. The ink flow path from the housing outlet to the printhead inlet is produced by a recess in the outer surface of the housing wall covered by the interface seal. The seal is a porous member having a thermosetting adhesive layer on one side thereof. The porous member has a slot therethrough, and the adhesive is the type not attacked by the ink. The surface of the porous member with the adhesive is bonded to the housing wall. The thermosetting adhesive moves through the porous member and bonds to the printhead surface containing the ink inlet to the housing wall, when the adhesive is cured.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1993Date of Patent: April 27, 1999Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Ram S. Patent number: 5895147Abstract: An electrostatographic printing machine and apparatus that utilizes a two layer roll charger for contact charging of photoreceptors. The charger includes a liquid retentive foam layer fitted over an electrically conductive shaft. The shaft can be solid or porous, the later requiring a separate liquid reservoir. The second layer is a thin liquid permeable member, over the foam layer, which transmits water at a slow, but controlled rate during the rotation of the roller. The roller may rotate synchronously with the photoreceptor or be allowed to slip on the photoreceptor surface to improve uniformity and contact. The membrane increases life by controlling the runout of liquid from the repository. Also, the present invention permits charging over photoreceptor pinholes.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 1997Date of Patent: April 20, 1999Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: John S. Patent number: 5896413Abstract: A contention control system unitarily manages a plurality of data transmissions so as to avoid contention therebetween. Data transmission command sending equipment of a data receiver continuously sends data transmission commands to a data sender according to a data transmission request. Data transmission-command receive control equipment receives the first valid one of the continuously-delivered data transmission commands therein and delivers it to data transmission control equipment. Correspondingly, data sending equipment starts to transmit data. Data transmission monitoring equipment of the data receiver monitors the state of transmission of the data.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 1997Date of Patent: April 20, 1999Assignee: Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kouichi Yoshimura, Takanori Hisanaga, Yuji Kozawa, Katsuya Mitsutake

Patent number: 5895738Abstract: An imaging system is provided which combines the perfect registration capabilities of xerocolography to form perfectly registered red, green and blue images in a single pass in one mode of operation. In another mode of operation, the color gamut possible with RGB toners is extended using black toner to develop an image that is formed using a second imager or exposure device. The result is an extended gamut color imaging process using four colors side by side in a single pass with a minimum amount of color desaturation and with a minimum number of image registrations. Yet another mode of operation provides for creating K+2 colors in a single pass. The three or two colors may be used to form highlight colors and/or logo colors.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 1997Date of Patent: April 20, 1999Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Delmer G. Patent number: 5895470Abstract: A system for extracting and analyzing information from a collection of linked documents at a locality to enable categorization of documents and prediction of documents relevant to a focus document. The system obtains and analyzes topology, usage and path information from for a collection at a locality, e.g. a web locality on the world wide web. For categorization, document meta information is represented as document vectors. Predefined criteria is applied to the document vectors to create lists of "similar" types of documents. For relevance prediction, networks representing topology, usage path and text similarity amongst the documents in the collection are created. A spreading activation technique is applied to the networks starting at a focus document to predict the documents relevant to the focus document. Using category and relevance prediction information, tools can be built to enable a user to more efficiently traverse through the collection of linked documents.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 1997Date of Patent: April 20, 1999Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Peter L. Patent number: 5896137Abstract: An average calculating section calculates an average of nine pixel values of each pixel block. With an assumption that the average value is expressed by 9 bits as a.sub.1 a.sub.2 a.sub.3 a.sub.4 a.sub.5 a.sub.6 a.sub.7 a.sub.8 a.sub.9 (a.sub.k : 1-bit value), a data allocating section allocates the respective bits a.sub.1 -a.sub.9 to 3.times.3 bits of each memory block of a two-value data storing section. After the nine bits a.sub.1 -a.sub.9 are read out from the two-value data storing section, a data reconstructing section combines those nine bits into the original average value, and repeatedly copies the average value to form a 3.times.3 pixel block.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 1996Date of Patent: April 20, 1999Assignee: Fuji Xerox, Co., Ltd.Inventors: Akihiro Ito, Koji Aikawa

Patent number: 5895148Abstract: An apparatus and method that insures an even distribution of liquid in an aquatron charging device across the entire length of the device. This enables uniform charging across the width of the photoreceptor. The present invention fills and pressurizes a porous tube with a liquid. The liquid evenly exudes from the pores along the entire length of the porous tube. A hydrophilic liquid retentive foam which contacts the photoreceptor surface is wrapped snugly around the tube. The conductivity and overall rate of dispensation of liquid is controlled by the pressure differential across the porous tube.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 1997Date of Patent: April 20, 1999Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Michael J.
