  • Patent number: 4000546
Abstract: A slider for use with a pair of concealed fastener stringers in which rows of scoops are stitched to respective folds formed rearwardly along the opposed longitudinal edges of stringer tapes, in such a manner that each tape fold has a loose outermost edge on the outside of the line of stitching. A pair of side walls on the marginal edges of the rear wall of the slider body extend from its lower end and terminate short of its upper end, and a pair of outer lips turned inwardly from the side walls extend close to the lipped inboard end of a separator on the upper end of the rear wall. The slider of this configuration is capable of preventing the jamming of the loose outermost edges of the tape folds as they enter the guide channel in the slider body during the fastener closing movement of the slider.

  • Patent number: 4000545
Abstract: A slide fastener capable of being forced open in an emergency without manipulating a slider along interlocking rows of scoops. The slide fastener comprises an emergency opening zone at its intermediate point where the rows of scoops are incapable of interlocking engagement when the fastener is closed, and a pair of rigid reinforcements fixedly arranged along and on the opposite sides of the zone. Each reinforcement extends beyond both extremities of the zone, so that the fastener will not open accidentally from the zone but will open unfailingly upon application of a finger pressure to the zone in an emergency.

  • Patent number: 3992817
Abstract: A window assembly has a pair of sashes slidable along respective rails formed in parallel spaced relationship on each of the header and sill of an outer frame. A windtight sealing strip of generally arcuate shape is installed in a prescribed position on a horizontal surface between the bottom edges of the sill rails to prevent the intrusion of the wind into the room from under the meeting portions of the two sashes. The sealing strip is made of resilient material and has one end immovably secured against the horizontal surface and the opposite end held in slidable contact therewith. The sashes are installable into, and removable from, the outer frame from inside the room without the need for moving the sealing strip away from its prescribed position.

  • Patent number: 3991436
Abstract: To prevent the wear of, and noise production by, the opposed or abutting ends of knuckles on a pair of hinge leaves, a pair of rings of wear resisting material are interposed between the opposed ends of each two adjacent knuckles, with a pintle passing through the knuckles and rings. The rings have pairs of fingers gripping the opposed marginal edges of the leaves, respectively, so that the paired rings rotate relative to each other with the swinging movement of the leaves. Each ring with its pair of fingers is exactly flat and is therefore manufacturable by punching from sheet metal, plastic or the like.

  • Patent number: 3991982
Abstract: For connection of a series of balusters to a top rail, each baluster is provided with a pair of jaws extending upwardly from its top end. The top rail has an integral retainer ridge formed lengthwise on its bottom surface. The retainer ridge includes a pair of shoulders having transversely registered pairs of recesses at prescribed longitudinal spacings. A pair of grooves are formed lengthwise in the respective lateral surfaces of the retainer ridge, and another pair of grooves are formed lengthwise in the bottom surface of the top rail on both sides of the retainer ridge. The jaws of each baluster are inserted into the respective grooves in the bottom surface of the top rail via the respective recesses, and the mid-portions of the jaws are then caused to project into the respective grooves in the lateral surfaces of the retainer ridge by pressing operation. The balusters can likewise be connected to a bottom rail.
