Abstract: Database table aggregation is implemented by a method that includes encoding first and second components via a waveform definition, the first and second components specifying criteria for aggregating data, and the first component is defined to provide data aggregation at a higher granularity than the second component. The method also includes generating a complex waveform representing the components in a pattern corresponding to the waveform definition and criteria, which spans a first axis indicative of a time period for the aggregation. The method includes providing a byte count for aggregated data stored in a first table defined by the criteria, aggregating the data for the time period, and updating the complex waveform to reflect results of the aggregation that includes generating a waveform representing a second table along a second axis depicted at a location corresponding to a time in which the data aggregation for the first table was initiated.

Abstract: A method of managing distribution of multimedia content is disclosed. The method includes receiving multimedia content from a communications network at a communications gateway associated with a customer premises. The communications gateway encodes the multimedia content based on a heartbeat signal that is superimposed on an alternating current (AC) electrical power signal associated with an electrical wiring system of the customer premises. The communications gateway wirelessly transmits the encoded multimedia content.

Abstract: Exemplary embodiments are directed to a blind carrier recovery system for blind detection and/or correction of carrier frequency offset between the signal laser source and local oscillator (i.e., carrier frequency recovery) for optical systems employing quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM). Exemplary embodiments can be implemented using an improved fast Fourier transform (FFT)-based approach. Some embodiments can include a frequency sign detection technique that uses parallel, concurrently implemented FFTs having a modified FFT architecture. Some embodiments can include a frequency sign detection technique that uses time-domain slope detection based on constellation classification.

Abstract: A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may operate, for example, according to a method for receiving a request to coordinate execution of a gaming application between a communication device and at least one device remotely located from the communication device, selecting a game rendering server from a plurality of game rendering servers according to a determination of at least one characteristic of the communication device, and instructing the game rendering server to transmit a stream associated with the gaming application responsive to determining that the communication device is unable to execute in whole or in part the gaming application from local computing resources of the communication device. The method can further include coordinating an exchange of first control information and second control information between the communication device and the at least one device. Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for receiving and displaying cellular television content. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a wireless communication device for establishing a connection to a wireless telecommunications network and for receiving video content over the connection. The apparatus includes a processor for receiving the cellular television content and the television signal. The processor generates a signal for display on a video display screen from the television signal and the video content. A video display screen is also provided in the apparatus for displaying the signal. The apparatus may also include a remote control interface and a remote control device that includes a keypad for establishing a wireless telephone call through the apparatus over the wireless telecommunications network.

Abstract: Methods, systems, devices, and computer program products for implementing condition alert services are provided. A method includes receiving information elements from a source that identify a condition, aggregating the information elements from the source with information elements from other sources that identify the same condition, and creating a composite file that includes the aggregated information elements representing each of the sources. The method also includes generating a condition alert from the composite file and transmitting the condition alert to a recipient communications device.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer program products use combinations of international mobile equipment identity (IMEI), international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI), and account information to determine if a customer is eligible for service credit in near real-time. The customer needs an active account prior to inserting a subscriber identity module (SIM) into a device and powering on the device for the system to determine credit eligibility. No further customer action is required. The credit application process determines credit eligibility based upon device credit eligibility, account tenure, and/or credit rules, and applies the credit to the customer's account. The customer may be proactively notified when the credit is applied. The credit and tenure rules may be changed as the industry and business needs change to remain competitive in the industry. The SIM used is configured with software to lock the SIM to the device upon first power-on.

Abstract: A device includes a communication module and a display. The communication module is configured to communicate with a personal database and to receive a plurality of digital images associated with a respective piece of clothing and/or an outfit from the personal database. The display is coupled to the communication module, and configured to display a first digital image associated with a recommended outfit based on a plurality of daily events associated with a user of the device. The display is also configured to display a second digital image associated with an advertised piece of clothing, and configured to enlarge the first digital image associated with the recommended outfit if the first digital image is selected or to enlarge the second digital image associated with the advertised piece of clothing if the second digital image is selected.

Abstract: Characterization and enhancement of a mobile local scattering environment. The system includes a channel component and a link control component, wherein the channel component facilitates communication of a ping signal, which is used to estimate the delay spread characteristics and/or angle of arrival in order to characterize the mobile local scattering environment. This information is sent to the link control component, which enhances radio link performance based on the received information. The system can be used to assist in E-911 location applications, such as determining the location of an indoor user.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for managing calls in a packet network is described. One aspect of the invention relates to a method of processing a call in a packet network in communication with a plurality of egress networks. A destination endpoint for the call is identified. Routing cost data associated with the plurality of egress networks is processed to identify an egress network of the plurality of egress networks providing a least cost route to the destination endpoint device. The call is routed towards the destination endpoint device through the identified egress network.

Abstract: A method of routing voice communications is disclosed and includes receiving network event data at a telephone number mapping (ENUM) server of an originating network from a plurality of peering border elements associated with a plurality of peering communication networks. The network event data indicates a health status of each of the peering communication networks. The method also includes determining a network weight related to each of the peering communication networks based on the network event data, wherein each network weight indicates a proportion of calls that are to be routed from the originating network via the related peering communication network. The method further includes dynamically assigning a plurality of preference field values to session initiation protocol (SIP) addresses of the peering border elements within a plurality of naming authority pointer (NAPTR) records, based on the network weights.

Abstract: A method of processing data includes receiving a request for an operand from a second processor at a first processor, encrypting the operand that has been requested using the first processor responsive to receiving the request for the operand, sending the operand that has been encrypted from the first processor to the second processor, receiving a result from the second processor at the first processor, the result generated from a single homomorphic operation being performed using the operand sent to the second processor, decrypting the result received from the second processor at the first processor, and receiving a request for the result that has been decrypted from the second processor at the first processor.

Abstract: A method, system and module for automatically validating dialogs associated with a spoken dialog service. The method comprises extracting key data from a dialog call detail record associated with a spoken dialog service, transmitting the key data as a dialog to a state-based representation (such as a finite-state machine) associated with a call-flow for the spoken dialog service and determining whether the dialog associated with the key data is a valid dialog for the call-flow.

Abstract: A system includes a network interface to receive video packet data encoding video data from a remote server. The system includes a hardware decoder operable to decode a first type of encoded video data but not operable to decode a second type of encoded video data. The system also includes a software decoder to decode the second type of encoded video data. The system also includes a controller to determine whether the received video packet data includes the second type of encoded video data and to route the video packet data to the software decoder when the video packet data includes the second type of encoded video data.

Abstract: A communication system includes a plurality of nodes and a plurality of point-to-point links that interconnect the plurality of nodes into a network. Each node includes an optical switch to controllably route a plurality of in-ports of the optical switch into a plurality of out-ports of the optical switch. Each point-to-point link includes a free space optical channel. A first free space optical channel couples to a first node through a receive path and through a transmit path. The receive path couples to a respective in-port of the optical switch of the first node, and the transmit path coupled to a respective out-port of the optical switch of the first node. In an alternative embodiment, a communication hub includes a plurality of neighborhood links, and a trunk coupled between the optical switch and a free space optical channel link to the network.

Abstract: A method includes detecting a substitution signal at a set top box device. The method includes inserting an advertisement into a media stream in response to detecting the substitution signal and determining an advertising fee associated with insertion of the advertisement into the media stream. A first advertising fee is determined when the advertisement is a local advertisement for a provider of a product or service and is to be inserted at a first location in the media stream that follows a national advertisement for the product or service. The first advertising fee is higher than a second advertising fee that is associated with insertion of the local advertisement for the provider of the product or service at a second location in the media stream.

Abstract: A method that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may embedding a watermark in media content for presentation at a rendering device using an editor to associate the watermark with one or more metadata pointers that point to additional media content according to an embedded link of the watermark to generate a group of one or more metadata pointers where the watermark includes an embedded link to additional media content used to modify the media content based on a content exchange between the rendering device and a computer. The method may further include storing the group of one or more metadata pointers, where a selection of the watermark invokes access to the altered media content containing the additional media content associated with the watermark, thereby producing the altered media content at the one or more user devices. Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and computer-readable storage media for automatically generating a dialog manager for use in a spoken dialog system. A system practicing the method receives a set of user interactions having features, identifies an initial policy, evaluates all of the features in a linear evaluation step of the algorithm to identify a set of most important features, performs a cubic policy improvement step on the identified set of most important features, repeats the previous two steps one or more times, and generates a dialog manager for use in a spoken dialog system based on the resulting policy and/or set of most important features. Evaluating all of the features can include estimating a weight for each feature which indicates how much each feature contributes to at least one of the identified policies. The system can ignore features not in the set of most important features.

Abstract: In a communications spectrum shared by public safety users and commercial users, in the event of an emergency condition, commercial users are preempted and corresponding bandwidth is reallocated to authorized public safety users. When the emergency condition subsides, the reallocated bandwidth is made available for commercial use. Reallocation and preemption can be initiated by an authorized public safety entity and/or can be initiated when public safety usage exceeds a predetermined usage threshold.

Abstract: A system and method for switching between voice signals. The system includes a network interface device and a digital logic device. The network interface device may include a splitter and a switch. The splitter includes a network input configured to receive a combined voice and digital signal. The splitter generates a separate first voice output and a digital signal. The first voice signal is provided from the splitter to the switch, while the digital signal is provided to the digital logic device. The digital logic device is configured to generate a second voice signal that is also provided to the switch. Further, the digital logic device provides a control signal to the switch. The control signal manipulates the switch to selectively provide either the first or second voice signal to a voice output.

Abstract: Broadcast emergency alert messages are selectively processed in accordance with various aspects of the alerted event, the alert message, and/or user preferences. In an example configuration, a mobile device is preconfigured with instructions defining how to process various types of emergency alert messages. A received broadcast emergency alert message is analyzed to determine various characteristics pertaining to the message, such as alert type, alert subtype, likelihood of alert occurrence, alert severity, receipt time, geographic extent of the alert area, originator of the alert message, a time when the alert message was originated. The message is processed in accordance with the preconfigured instructions and the characteristics pertaining to the message. A user of the mobile device can tailor the type of EAS alerts to be received, the time period, or periods, during which EAS alerts can be received, and actions to be taken with respect to received alerts.

Abstract: An emergency system includes a gateway and a database in communication with the gateway. The database comprises first routing information for establishing a first communication link between a communication device and a controller, second routing information for establishing a second communication link between the gateway and the controller, wherein the second routing information is correlated to the first routing information; and location data associated with the communication device. Upon receiving identification information related to the communication device, the gateway retrieves the first routing information from the database and provides the first routing information to a switch. The gateway retrieves the second routing information from the database and uses the second routing information to establish a second communication link with the controller, and the gateway retrieves the location data from the database.

Abstract: A system and method for estimating a channel in a wireless receiver is disclosed. The method comprises receiving a block of “n” transmitted symbols, the symbols including pilot symbols and “d” data symbols, estimating a channel using the pilot symbols to create a channel estimate, choosing a group of “m” strongest symbols from the “d” received symbols, compensating the “m” strongest symbols using the channel estimate to create a group of “m” compensated symbols, re-estimating the channel using the group of “m” compensated symbols and pilot symbols; and either (1) repeating the steps of choosing a group of “m” strongest symbols, compensating the group of “m” strongest symbols and re-estimating the channel, or (2) using a latest channel estimate to compensate all symbols within the block. The system comprises a wireless receiver having an estimator programmed according to the method.

Abstract: An intelligent interactive call handling system is provided that typically includes a central office, a call-handling device, and an internet call routing system. The central office typically triggers a query responsive to receiving a call request. The call-handling device is coupled to the central office, receives the query, and triggers an internet call routing query. The internet call routing system, which is coupled to the call-handling device, typically receives the internet call routing query, determines presence of the called party with respect to at least one registered communication device, sends a prompt to the called party at said at least one registered communication device responsive to the presence determination, receives a reply from said at least one registered communication device, and routes the call responsive to the reply. Methods and other systems are also provided.

Abstract: A system and apparatus for supplying media content to portable communication devices is disclosed. An apparatus that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure can include, for example, a Set-Top Box (STB) having a cellular transceiver and a controller element to direct the cellular transceiver to transmit a media guide for the STB to a terminal device for presentation on a display unit of the terminal device. Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods are disclosed for identifying a driver within a vehicle using short range wireless communication in order to ticket or alert the driver in response to a traffic infraction by the driver. In exemplary embodiments, a short range wireless communication device registers drivers of vehicles at a certain location. The registration captures a unique identifier for each driver at the location from the driver's wireless communication device. When a vehicle commits a traffic infraction, the unique identifier is used to reference a database to determine the identity and address of the driver. The driver may then be sent a notification of the infraction as well as payment options directly to the wireless communication device of the driver. In some embodiments, a smart vehicle acts as a proxy to capture the unique identifier from the driver's wireless communication device and communicates with the short range wireless communication device.

Abstract: The disclosed technology involves the use of relational databases in conjunction with declarative language and network-wide, database abstractions to manage and operate networks. The data model creates a logically centralized database abstraction and access point for managing data relevant to network management. Exemplary managed data includes router configurations, network status and provisioning data. This information resides in a single database system which is tightly integrated with the operational network. Transactional write operations are used to change network configurations, and enforce constraints to detect and prevent policy violations during operation. In accordance with one aspect of the disclosed technology, a network operation is implemented by means of a series of database commands—read and/or write—from and to database view tables.

Abstract: Systems and methods of automatically determining a set of route targets is provided. The method includes receiving network topology data specifying configuration of a network. The method also includes automatically converting the network topology data into route targets to be assigned to virtual routing and forwarding elements. The route targets are grouped into sets and duplicate sets of route targets are removed. The method further includes generating a data record including information related to the set of route targets.

Abstract: A method and apparatus derive a dynamic grammar composed of a subset of a plurality of data elements that are each associated with one of a plurality of reference identifiers. The present invention generates a set of selection identifiers on the basis of a user-provided first input identifier and determines which of these selection identifiers are present in a set of pre-stored reference identifiers. The present invention creates a dynamic grammar that includes those data elements that are associated with those reference identifiers that are matched to any of the selection identifiers. Based on a user-provided second identifier and on the data elements of the dynamic grammar, the present invention selects one of the reference identifiers in the dynamic grammar.

A bootstrapping server function (BSF) communicates with at least one network application function (NAF) responsive to detection of the network connectivity status to terminate a plurality of sessions associated with the UE.

Abstract: A method to deliver a notification of receipt of an e-mail includes associating a set-top box identifier with at least one e-mail account. Through a mail server external to an IPTV network, it is determined whether an e-mail has been received for the at least one e-mail account. In response to determining that an e-mail has been received for the at least one e-mail account, an e-mail delivery notification is generated and transmitted to the e-mail delivery notification to a set-top box device identified by the set-top box identifier.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for the delivery and display of an email text message and audio/video attachment to an IPTV enabled display device. The method comprises retrieving an email message and at least one audio/video attachment from an email account, and saving the email message and one audio/video attachment. The method further comprises analyzing the retrieved email message to determine if an IPTV account is associated with data that is comprised within the email message, and transmitting a notification to the IPTV account in the event that the email data that is comprised within the email message is determined to be associated with the IPTV account.

Abstract: Architecture for the delivery of IP-based messages from wired and/or wireless devices to a television system. The means for delivery can be via an Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) technology. The message is processed through a messaging system that obtains a mapping of a message address to an IPTV address, and routes the message to an IPTV network for delivery the desired television system for presentation. Messaging can be via SMS (short message service) for textual content, MMS (multimedia messaging service) for multimedia content, or other messaging technologies, such as instant messaging, an e-mail, for example. Optionally, the message from the user device can include a request for confirmation of delivery of the message to the television. The confirmation can then be routed back over an IP data network to the user device and presented to the user.

Abstract: A communications device determines the appropriate method for providing a message depending upon the content of the message without prompting or querying a user of the device. When the user selects a name as the recipient of the created message, the mobile device determines delivery options. If the message contains text only and if the user enters/selects a mobile device phone number, the message is sent via SMS. If the message contains multimedia and if the user enters or selects a mobile device phone number, the message is sent via MMS. If the message is text only or multimedia, and if the user enters or selects an email address, the message is sent via email. In various implementations, the message is delivery via determined delivery options including a lowest cost delivery option, a subscriber preferred delivery option, or a delivery options as indicated by an intended recipient's presence information.

In one example, a call flow for supporting the service feature in the communication network is created, where at least one network component supports the call flow. First cost data for internally developing the at least one network component is determined. Second cost data for procuring the at least one network component from third party entity is determined. The first cost data and the second cost data are processed to generate a recommendation for either internally developing or externally procuring the at least one network element.

The user device might include a data storage device and a product identifier input device configured to receive a product identifier. Abstract: A set-top box generates a multimedia signal that includes streaming video for a plurality of currently available multimedia channels. A user configures a plurality of favorite channels. Streaming video from the favorite channels is provided in a plurality of viewports on a display. A user presses a favorites button on a remote control to prompt an application server to signal a content server to provide a compound video signal including streaming video from each favorite channel. The set-top box produces a resultant video signal including the streaming video from each favorite channel in a corresponding viewport. The viewports correspond to a mosaic template that may be hosted by the application server and accessed by the content server.

Abstract: When a device, such as a cellular phone, enters into a region, usage information pertaining to usage of devices in the region is provided to the device. For example, restrictions pertaining to usage of cellular phones while driving can be provided. Usage information also can be provided upon request or in accordance with various factors, such as subscriber preferences, elapsed time since the last time usage information was sent to the device, elapsed time since usage regulations have been enacted or updated, and/or the frequency of which the device is in the region. A region can include a geographic region, a political boundary, a country, a state, a municipality, a county, a parish, a township, a building (e.g., school, library, movie theatre, court house, local, state, or federal government building), a public place (e.g., restaurant, bus, train, taxi), a zip code, a telephone area code, or the like.

Abstract: A conventional wireless device constantly measures the signal strength of its server base station and the strength of signals from surrounding base stations for handoff purposes. The wireless device transmits this information to its serving base station, which discards the information a short time afterward, following handoff. The present system and method store the formerly discarded information in one of several existing network elements or in a separate computer system. This information is used to generate a carrier to interference ratio, which indicates the level of interference between station pairs, and to also generate a carrier to interference matrix, including identifying potential interference for each station pair. The frequency of occurrences during predetermined desired periods of time and the volume of traffic affected by each level of interference may also be calculated. This provides comprehensive, continuous, real-time information for wireless frequency planning.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer-readable media for providing contextual feedback to a user of a computer system upon detection of an invasion of the computer system are provided herein. An invasion of the computer system is detected and a contextually appropriate alert is selected from a set of alerts. The alert is played immediately upon detection of the invasion so that the user is alerted to the invasion within close temporal proximity to the user's action that resulted in the invasion of the computer system. In addition, details of the invasion are logged to a diagnostic log file for later use by support personnel in repairing the computer system.

Abstract: A media control profile is described herein. The media control profile provides a number of selectable pre-defined and/or user-defined settings to manipulate the functionality of a hybrid telecommunications and entertainment mobile device. Three basic modes of operation, namely a telecommunications-only device mode, an entertainment-only device mode, and a hybrid telecommunications and entertainment device mode are provided. Setting associated with one or more of these basic modes are combined to form a media control profile for the hybrid mobile device.
