Abstract: A method, computer readable medium and apparatus for calculating a capacity for high speed packet access data in a link in a communications network are disclosed. For example, the method initializes parameters associated with streaming data, long elastic data and short elastic data, determines, via a processor, a capacity value such that a quality of service metric is met for the streaming data, the long elastic data and the short elastic data and provisions the link with the capacity value if the quality of service metric is met.

Abstract: Systems for automatically selecting a user's profile based on location include a device adapted to being tracked by location and a database that includes a user's preferences for routing calls. The user's calls are routed to the user based on the user's call routing preferences and the location of the device. Other systems and methods are also provided.

Abstract: Signaling in a femto cell access point is managed. A pilot signal power profile, or pilot signal gating, determines transmitted a time-dependent pilot signal power. The power profile displays a duty cycle well below 100% and a power depth, which is the amplitude between maximum and minimum pilot signal power, determined partially upon radio link conditions. The time-dependent power profile can be established through a schedule based at least in part on attachment data or subscriber input; machine-learning method facilitate inferring the schedule. Pilot signal gating profile can be reused in a femto cell deployment to broaden femto cell identification and thus facilitate macro-to-femto handover. Activating/deactivating pilot signal in a femto cell in the scheduled and synchronized manner provided herein leads to macro-femto interference mitigation and mobility improvement(s), and improved battery life of wireless devices that operate in a wireless environment that includes femto cells.

Abstract: In a particular embodiment, a method includes requesting, at a first communication device, location information from multiple communication devices. The method also includes recording, at the first communication device, a particular location coordinate received from a closest communication device of the multiple communication devices. The method further includes adjusting the particular location coordinate based on triangulation data associated with the closest communication device.

Abstract: A method for managing visual voicemail messages includes displaying a list of voicemail messages on a telecommunications handset, receiving user commands for operating on the voicemail messages including a delete message command and in response to a delete message command, marking a voicemail message for deletion with a delete timestamp and moving the voicemail message to a Deleted Messages folder. A Deleted Message Age Indicator function processes to control permanent deletion of voicemail messages in the Deleted Messages folder based on delete timestamps and a global Delete Time value in cooperation with a visual voicemail platform.

Abstract: A system and method for speech file processing which provides users with differentially selectable speech file transcripts which can be sent to one or more other users. The speech files may be voicemail messages from which respective voicemail transcripts are created. The voicemail transcripts are provided in a user selectable format from which users may select non-contiguous portions of the transcript.

Abstract: Concepts and technologies are disclosed herein for sharing asserted media. An assertion application can be executed by a device to generate asserted media. The assertion application can receive a request or other input for specifying information to be included in the asserted media. The assertion application also can be executed to obtain media captured with a media capture device and to obtain the information to be included in the asserted media. The assertion application also can associate the information with the media content to generate the asserted media and share the asserted media with one or more recipients. An assertion service remote from the user device can be configured to generate the asserted media and/or to share the asserted media with the recipients.

Abstract: A method and system for operating a remote-controlled device using a gesture-enabled remote control (RC) includes activating a communication link between the RC and the remote-controlled device. The remote-controlled device may implement a remote control context accommodating gesture commands generated by the RC. The RC may enable a user to generate gesture commands by performing gesture motions with the RC. Command data corresponding to gesture commands, along with selection commands from selection control inputs on the RC, may be sent to the remote-controlled device.

Abstract: A system and method for full-duplex communications provided by modifying the Media Access Control sub-layer of communication node protocols. The modification allows communication nodes to communicate with one another in full-duplex, where each node transmits and receives data simultaneously with other nodes in a single frequency. A timing of the simultaneous data transmissions, acknowledgments, and short-interframe-space waiting periods can be determined based on network-allocation-vector data transmitted in association with request-to-send or clear-to-send signals.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices that can conditionally and/or automatically control message forwarding by communication devices are presented. A network message management component and/or handset message management component can monitor messages (e.g., short message service (SMS) messages) communicated between user equipment (UE) in a communication network, identify and/or intercept a message for which one or more forwarding conditions have been specified by the message originator, target, or forward target, and conditionally and/or automatically route the message to the target and/or forward target in accordance with predefined message routing rules based at least in part on the conditions specified by the originator, target, or forward target. The predefined message routing rules can be implemented by the network and/or the UEs, and can relate to the UE identifiers, time, priority, cost, operation state, size, desired automatic response messages, or other desired factors, associated with the message.

Abstract: A method for performing a service action on a particular set top box based on a particular private identifier associated with the particular set top box is disclosed. At a database associated with a service provider, a user record is created. The user record includes a public identifier and a private identifier for each set top box that is available to the user. The public identifier for a particular set top box is accessible by the user and may be used to determine the private identifier for the particular set top box.

The proximity detection device includes a short range wireless receiver, a wireless network transceiver; and a controller connected to the receiver and transceiver. The device receives a short-range radio signal from a user's mobile communications device, and locates the user and takes various actions based on the identity of the user.

Abstract: In one embodiment, the present invention is a method and apparatus for dynamically allocating resources for large-scale multimedia conferences. In one embodiment, a method for allocating resources to a multimedia conference includes receiving a request from a potential participant to join the multimedia conference and dynamically assigning the request to one of a plurality of media servers serving the multimedia conference.

Abstract: Methods and systems provide clickstream captures at a remote component, such as a video control system of a television network, by receiving user commands generated by the viewer that are sent to the remote component concurrently relative to when they are generated by the viewer. The commands are captured and then information related to these commands is stored remotely from the premises of the viewer. Additionally, the user commands may be executed remotely such as at a video control system of a television network or alternatively may be executed at the premises of the viewer such as within a set top box. Information related to these user commands continues to be stored remotely from the premises of the viewer after the user commands have been executed such that the information related to these user commands can be processed as necessary and used for various purposes.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for use in establishing secure end-to-end communication links over a VPN gateway via a network interface unit. Illustrative embodiments include establishing and providing secure communication relationships between users (customers) and companies for e-commerce and other business purposes. Each company's data and linkage to users remaining private and secure from the other participating companies as well as from the general public over the Internet. Login by user with network interface units, addressing, authentication, and other configuration operations achieved using a web page-based GUI are applied in establishing tunnels from LAN clients to desired VPN destinations. Required authentication exchanges and required encryption key exchanges facilitate the secure communications. Financial arrangements regarding the provisioning and use of network interface units are also disclosed.

Abstract: A system and method for providing voice communications with desired characteristics based upon the intended recipient of a voice communication. An apparatus includes a list of dial strings associated with parties having desired voice communication characteristics. A dial string entered by a user and associated with an intended recipient is compared to a list of preferred dial strings to determine the characteristics of an encoded voice signal to be sent to the recipient. The apparatus can include a vocoder having different bit rate modes and a bit rate mode is selected based upon the dial string entered by a user. Dial strings can be stored at the device or on a network. The apparatus can include a mode selector to select a desired vocoder mode to generate an encoded voice signal.

Abstract: The present invention enables network providers of toll free calls to give customers a choice of what network announcements they want to listen to as they wait in queue. For example, customers could select to hear silence with periodic estimations of wait time, different types of music, current global, domestic, or local news, information about sports or financial information. The present invention allows customers to toggle between different selections via a predefined Dual Tone Multiple Frequency (DTMF) signal.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating at least one bill in a packet network is described. In one embodiment, a request to change a billing cycle is received by an application server from a customer via a packet network. The billing cycle is subsequently changed to a modified billing cycle in accordance to the received request. Lastly, at least one bill is generated by the application server in accordance with the modified billing cycle.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products that automatically categorize and/or assign ratings to content (video and audio content) uploaded by individuals who want to broadcast the content to others via a communications network, such as an IPTV network, are provided. When an individual uploads content to a network, a network service automatically extracts an audio stream from the uploaded content. Words in the extracted audio stream are identified. For each identified word, a preexisting library of selected words is queried to determine if a match exists between words in the library and words in the extracted audio stream. The selected words in the library are associated with a particular content category or content rating. If a match exists between an identified word and a word in the library, the uploaded content is assigned a content category and/or rating associated with the matched word.

Abstract: A server manages middleware communication between the server and a plurality of client terminals through a communication network. The server includes a network interface device that communicates with the plurality of client terminals, storage that stores middleware management operational programs and data, and a processor that executes the middle management operational programs. The server implements a multi-layered marshaling process, which marshals middleware communications between the server and the plurality of terminals, and a consolidated middleware management process, which manages execution of middleware, the multi-layered marshaling process. The consolidated middleware management process is accessible to the plurality of client terminals communicating with the server via a plurality of different types of middleware.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is presented for enabling an agent to assume the identity or persona of a called party and process calls directed to the called party. In one embodiment, methods, which enable an agent to assume the identity or persona of a called party, and process calls directed to the called party are considered a call center functions and may be implemented in a call center. A call is initiated to a called party. Initiating the call generates called party information. Using the called party information a server retrieves information associated with the called party and then forward the information associated with the called party to an agent. The call is then forwarded to the agent. As a result, the agent may use the information associated with the called party to assume the identity or persona of the called party when responding to the call.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for selecting a bandwidth option for a cell in a network are disclosed. For example, the method obtains, for the cell, network traffic data for a geographical area for mobility traffic and fixed wireless traffic, a physical characteristic of an antenna in the geographical area, and a type of connectivity at a customer premise, determines a busy time data traffic from the network traffic data for both the fixed wireless traffic and the mobility traffic, determines, for the cell, a cell range from the physical characteristic of the antenna and the type of connectivity at the customer premise, selects a bandwidth option from a plurality of bandwidth options, and determines an average throughput in accordance with the bandwidth option that is selected and the cell range, wherein the average throughput comprises a throughput for serving both the mobility traffic and the fixed wireless traffic.

An example method disclosed herein receives a notice of error for a user service, identifies equipment associated with the user service, analyzes the equipment to generate a dispatch instruction, and automatically executes the dispatch instruction in response to the equipment analysis.

Abstract: Methods and systems for providing a user with control over telecommunications services provided by a service provider. Using almost any type of communications device, a user may gain access to, view, and make changes or modifications to profile information related to the services. The changes may be made quickly and efficiently, but accuracy and thoroughness in the implementation of the changes are not sacrificed. Further, the changes to the communications services are implemented almost immediately and without involvement by the service provider. Particularly, profile information about the telecommunications service is stored on a server in a data network. A change action relating to the profile information may be received at the server from a data device (such as a wireless unit) operating on the network. The change action is implemented on the profile information to result in changed profile information, which may be provided from the server via the data network to the telecommunications system.

The methods may include inserting rows into a user security table in a database providing VPD functionality, each row comprising a user ID for which database access is to be controlled, the name of a database object to be secured, and a predicate; and defining a security policy function common to all secured database objects, said security policy function generating a second predicate to be appended by the database's VPD functionality to queries made on a queried secured database object by a querying user, said second predicate based on at least one predicate in at least one row in the user security table, the at least one row referencing the name of the queried secured database object and the user ID of the querying user. Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for providing VLAN capacity requirement estimation is provided. The method includes receiving at a computing system a VLAN configuration file that specifies VLAN access ports, VLAN switches and VLAN trunks in a VLAN. A target access port identifier is received at the computing system from a requestor. A target trunk and target switch corresponding to the target access port are determined at the computing system. A bandwidth contribution of the target access port to the VLAN is calculated at the computing system. The calculating is based on a least contribution algorithm that reflects an impact of provisioning the target access port with respect to trunk capacity, and is responsive to the target bandwidth requirement, the target class of service and placement of the target port in the VLAN. The bandwidth contribution is then transmitted to the requestor.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for estimating mobile station location include receiving reported signal strengths or other attachment indicator values from a mobile station. The reported signal strengths are compared with characteristic received signal strength values in a coverage area of a mobile network. A mobile switching center determines if a local function is requested and initiates a location estimation process by a mobile location module (MLM). The MLM receives the reported signal strength contours associated with the attachment points. Based on a comparison of the reported attachment indicator values with characteristic values, the MLM provides a mobile location estimate.

Abstract: Example methods, apparatus and articles of manufacture to determine authorization levels in a virtual private network are disclosed. A disclosed example method includes determining whether a call originated from an originating station associated with a virtual private network, the call originating via a private branch exchange associated with the virtual private network by a first user of a plurality of users associated with the virtual private network, querying a private-number table based on at least one of a switch identifier representing a service switching point, a trunk group identifier representing the private branch exchange, or an originating station identifier representing the originating station to obtain a private number assigned to the first user, and providing an authorization level associated with the private number to the service switching point, the service switching point to process the call according to the authorization level.

Abstract: A method of running a network status module in a set-top box device is disclosed. A loss of a portion of a signal in an Internet Protocol television network is detected. When interference of the signal is cause over a connection between the set-top box device and the residential gateway, a first icon to indicate a first failure in a connection between the set-top box device and a residential gateway on a display device is displayed. When the interference of the signal is over the wide area network of the Internet Protocol television network, a second icon to indicate a second failure in a wide area network of an Internet Protocol television network is displayed.

Abstract: Devices, systems and methods are disclosed which relate to a wearable alert device that emits a physical stimulation upon receiving a signal from a wireless communication device. The wireless communication device is in wireless communication with the wearable alert device, and the wireless communication device sends alerts to the wearable alert device each time it receives an incoming call. The alert is received by the wearable alert device, which in turn emits the physical stimulation to the user wearing it.

Abstract: A digital subscriber line (DSL) network provides enhanced dynamic spectrum management (DSM) based on estimated foreign interference obtained from monitoring unmanaged wire pairs in a cable. A DSL access multiplexer (DSLAM) or other line terminal provides vectored DSL signaling to a plurality of subscribers via a first set of wire pairs of the cable. The DSLAM monitors a second set of one or more wire pairs of the cable that are not connected to the vectored group associated with the first set of wire pairs to estimate foreign interference introduced to the first set of wire pairs. The DSLAM then modifies the vectored DSL transmitted signaling responsive to the estimated foreign interference so as to pre-cancel or otherwise compensate for the foreign interference introduced into the managed wire pairs.

Abstract: Geo-targeting may be used in combination with wireless alert capabilities to provide alerts to a more granulated geographical area. Disclosed herein is a system and method for performing geo-targeting for various alert areas such that emergency messages may be delivered to mobile and static devices of different types in a localized area. In an example embodiment, geo-targeting supports the delivery area for wireless emergency alerts by identifying the cell sites that are in a specified geographic area that have technology capable of delivering wireless emergency alerts. The components of the telecommunications system that support a wireless emergency alert system may be identified and mapped to any geographical area. The method and system of geo-target mapping may provide an efficient and more robust way of determining the telecommunication components to be employed for broadcasting emergency alerts.

Abstract: Methods of detecting potential click fraud are provided in which information relating to a click on an Internet advertisement is received. A measured location of a source of the click is also received. The source of the click may be identified as potentially fraudulent based at least in part on the received information and the measured location of the source. Methods of identifying potentially fraudulent activations of Internet advertisements and related systems and computer program products are also provided.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and products share content between a device and a media delivery device. The media delivery device includes a content sharing application stored in memory and a processor communicating with the memory. The processor sends a presence update message to indicate the media delivery device is active and available to receive content. The processor receives an invite, and the invite requests a session between the media delivery device and the device. The processor sends an accept message to accept the invitation. The processor receives the content and receives a message that terminates the session.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method and system for transmitting data on a data channel from a source to a destination. The data channel has a plurality of wavelength channels and a throughput. The system and method include a storage application for multicasting data on each of the plurality of wavelength channels, a storage protocol extension device using buffer credits to adjust the throughput during the multicasting, and an application optimization device for managing data channel latency to achieve asymmetric mirroring behavior at the same time as the multicasting.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to sharing access to end user information in a multi-screen environment for the purpose of enhancing application functionality and end user experience including advertising functionality and experience. The invention includes storing end user information obtained from a first screen environment in an end user context database (ECD), and accessing the end user information in the ECD for use in a second screen environment. The multi-screen environments include a television, a network access device, such as a personal computer configured to provide access to the Internet, a telephone and other mobile and home devices such as PDAs. The first screen environment is different from the second screen environment.

Abstract: The invention provides a method and apparatus for enabling DTMF signal processing in the core VoIP network. More specifically, the present invention enables a VoIP network to recognize and respond to special DTMF signals entered by a user and initiate the appropriate service logic response to satisfy the user's service request.

Abstract: A digital residential entertainment system is disclosed recording video data of an event. The apparatuses include a processor communicating with memory. The memory stores video data of the event captured by a camera, and the video data includes a series of picture frames of the event. A loop buffer also stores video data of the event captured by the camera. A rule-based engine stored in the memory uses a set of rules to store the contents of the loop buffer in the memory. The apparatus utilizes the loop buffer to provide video data prior to occurrence of the event.

Abstract: A network is disclosed that includes a message originator computer and a message recipient computer, for secure electronic mail delivery. In accordance with the invention, the network includes a message delivery server that can distinguish between real and phantom messages. In operation, the message originator computer waits a random time and then transmits a first encrypted phantom message to the message delivery server. This message is to spoof an eavesdropper into believing that there is a steady stream of messages being sent from the originator computer. However, the message delivery server recognizes the message as a phantom message and discards it. When the message originator computer receives a user request to transmit a real message to the recipient computer, it waits a random time and then encrypts and transmits the real message to the message delivery server. The message delivery server recognizes the message as a real message and forwards the real message to the recipient computer.

Abstract: A method that incorporates teachings of the subject disclosure may include, for example, receiving, by a system comprising a processor, holographic video data and a descriptor file associated with the holographic video data, where the holographic video data comprises encoded holographic wave front images that are generated by reconstructing holographic interference patterns associated with a target object, determining, by the system, presentation characteristics from the received descriptor file, and presenting, by the system, holographic video content decoded from the holographic video data, at a portion of a display device. Abstract: Adjusting RAN performance by adapting cell coverage area can help optimize a wireless network. Base station coverage areas can be determined by distance analysis of detected neighbor base stations. This can be in response to determination of a physical cell identifier (PCI) conflict condition. When a PCI conflict is determined, a unique identifier for each base station can be employed to facilitate determining location information for the base stations. Location information can be employed to determine distance-based characteristics that can facilitate adaptation of wireless network neighbor relations to adapt the RAN coverage area topology. Distance-based characteristics can include nearest neighbor, proximity to a predetermined distance, etc. Additionally, PCI information can be updated to correct the PCI conflict condition.

Abstract: A request from a party is received by a receiver from a remote system. The request from the party is received when the party attempts to obtain a service using the remote system. A selective determination is made to request, over a network, authentication of the party by a remote biometric system. A request is sent to the remote system for the party to provide a biometric sample responsive to determining to request authentication of the party. The service is provided contingent upon authentication of the party by the remote biometric system.

Abstract: Adjusting RAN performance by adapting cell coverage area can help optimize a wireless communications network. RAN topology can be adapted based on analysis of historical performance of base stations. Analysis of the historical performance of base stations can be performed in the core-network of a wireless carrier rather than distributing the analysis to RAN elements. Analysis can be based on receiving historical information relating to key performance indicators such as call failure rate, call success rate, handover attempt count, handover attempt failure count, etc. Further, analysis can include the application of predetermined rules relating to preferential performance of the base stations. This can facilitate ranking neighboring base stations, adding new base stations, deleting base stations, black/white listing base stations, etc., in neighbor relations data structures, such as automatic neighbor relations structures for self-organizing networks, e.g., eNodeBs in LTE networks.

Abstract: The invention concerns a method and corresponding system for building a phonotactic mode for domain independent speech recognition. The method may include recognizing phones from a user's input communication using a current phonotactic model detecting morphemes (acoustic and/or non-acoustic) from the recognized phones, and outputting die detected morphemes for processing. The method also updates the phonotactic model with the detected morphemes and stores the new model in a database for use by the system daring the next user interaction. The method may also include making task-type classification decisions based on the detected morphemes from the user's input communication.
