  • Patent number: 9300421
Abstract: Systems and methods and systems are disclosed for allowing the medium access control (MAC) layer in a communication system within an integrated circuit or device to accurately determine a timestamp point and a timestamp value when, for example, the Precision Time Protocol (PTP) protocol is in use by the communication system. Such determination of accurate timestamp point and timestamp value may be used by the communication system to account for and to compensate for the time shift(s) from forward error correction (FEC) sublayer changes in a data frame that is transmitted by the MAC layer. Feedback is provided to the MAC from the FEC to allow the MAC to accurately determine the timestamp point and timestamp value align preamble of the data frame to the beginning of the FEC bit block that is output by the FEC sublayer.

  • Patent number: 9294967
Abstract: Systems and methods herein utilize interworking protocols with centralized functionality to perform CSFB with minimal latency for an inbound and/or outbound communication with a mobile device that is attached to a communication network not operable to service the communication. Embodiments utilize a centralized gateway that communicates in both an LTE network and CS network. In embodiments, the mobile device may be concurrently attached to the LTE network, registered with the centralized gateway, and registered with an MSC of the CS network. Upon the CS network receiving an inbound call for the mobile device or upon the mobile device originating a call, the MSC may set up the call with the mobile device with minimal latency because the mobile device is pre-registered with the MSC.

  • Patent number: 9294419
Abstract: Architectures, apparatus and systems employing scalable multi-layer 2D-mesh routers. A 2D router mesh comprises bi-direction pairs of linked paths coupled between pairs of IO interfaces and configured in a plurality of rows and columns forming a 2D mesh. Router nodes are located at the intersections of the rows and columns, and are configured to forward data units between IO inputs and outputs coupled to the mesh at its edges through use of shortest path routes defined by agents at the IO interfaces. Multiple instances of the 2D meshes may be employed to support bandwidth scaling of the router architecture. One implementation of a multi-layer 2D mesh is built using a standard tile that is tessellated to form a 2D array of standard tiles, with each 2D mesh layer offset and overlaid relative to the other 2D mesh layers. IO interfaces are then coupled to the multi-layer 2D mesh via muxes/demuxes and/or crossbar interconnects.

  • Patent number: 9246834
Abstract: The present invention provides methods and devices for implementing a Low Latency Ethernet (“LLE”) solution, also referred to herein as a Data Center Ethernet (“DCE”) solution, which simplifies the connectivity of data centers and provides a high bandwidth, low latency network for carrying Ethernet and storage traffic. Some aspects of the invention involve transforming FC frames into a format suitable for transport on an Ethernet. Some preferred implementations of the invention implement multiple virtual lanes (“VLs”) in a single physical connection of a data center or similar network. Some VLs are “drop” VLs, with Ethernet-like behavior, and others are “no-drop” lanes with FC-like behavior. Some preferred implementations of the invention provide guaranteed bandwidth based on credits and VL. Active buffer management allows for both high reliability and low latency while using small frame buffers. Preferably, the rules for active buffer management are different for drop and no drop VLs.

  • Patent number: 9215655
Abstract: In video conferencing over a radio network, the radio equipment is a major power consumer especially in cellular networks such as LTE. In order to reduce the radio power consumption in video conferencing, it is important to introduce an enough radio inactive time. Several types of data buffering and bundling can be employed within a reasonable range of latency that doesn't significantly disrupt the real-time nature of video conferencing. In addition, the data transmission can be synchronized to the data reception in a controlled manner, which can result in an even longer radio inactive time and thus take advantage of radio power saving modes such as LTE C-DRX.

  • Patent number: 9210621
Abstract: A method and corresponding system to help maintain continuity of service level for a client device, such as where the client device is being served by an access network in accordance with a set of policy rules and the client device is going to stop being served by that access network and may then be served by another network. To help provide service continuity, the serving access network may detect that the client device is going to stop being served by the access network, and, responsively but before the client device stops being served by the access network, the access network or another entity may provision the client device with one or more service policy rules that the client device itself may then apply when the client device is no longer being served by the access network, such as when the client device is being served by another network instead.
