  • Patent number: 8023461
Abstract: A method and an apparatus are described for increasing the flexibility of uplink resource allocation for a mobile station (MS) (100), that is backwards compatible with earlier standards that provide only a single data flow per MS. The method includes steps of (A) associating an allocated uplink resource (an Uplink State Flag (USF)) with one or more Temporary Block Flows (TBFs) for a Packet Data Channel (PDCH), and not with a MS per se (although a given USF is associated with only a single MS); and (B) using a Temporary Flow Identity (TFI) for identifying a TBF, where a TFI may be unique to a PDCH and, if not, is unique with respect to the MS on a PDCH (and hence with respect to the USF). The result is that the MS is enabled to send any of its TBFs on allocated resources of the same PDCH. An uplink resource may be allocated to the MS dynamically using the Uplink State Flag (USF) or by using a fixed allocation. A total of n Radio Bearers are associated with a single TBF, where n?1.

  • Patent number: 8023436
Abstract: A multi-port SERDES transceiver includes multiple parallel ports and serial ports, and includes the flexibility to connect any one of the parallel ports to another parallel port or to a serial port, or both. Furthermore, the multi-port transceiver chip can connect any one of serial ports to another serial port or to one of the parallel ports. The substrate layout of the multi-port SERDES transceiver chip is configured so that the parallel ports and the serial ports are on the outer perimeter of the substrate. A logic core is at the center of the substrate, where the logic core operates the serial and parallel data ports, and the bus that connects the data ports. The bus can be described as a “ring” structure (or donut “structure”) around the logic core, and is configured between the logic core and the data ports. The ring structure of the bus provides efficient communication between the logic core and the various data ports.

  • Patent number: 8018954
Abstract: The present invention is an apparatus, method and system for time synchronizing data from various sensor types that enables data fusion and transport. To provide this capability, the present invention utilizes an inverted Passive Optical Network (PON) approach for synchronous communication. Further, the present invention introduces an inverted Passive Electrical Network (iPEN) that extends the iPON approach. Data that are in a common format with embedded time synchronization information can easily be integrated or fused and transported over such communication links. The present invention provides the ability to merge and aggregate data from a wide range of disparate sensors and systems while maintaining close synchronization. The present invention is appropriate for synchronization of data, voice, and video onto a single network and/or multi-tiered networks and can also handle signal processing and control technologies at line rates well into the Gigabits per second (Gbps) range.

  • Patent number: 8014277
Abstract: Systems and methods are described that facilitate controlling transmission/reception time slots in a wireless multi-hop ad hoc network. A node, such as an access terminal or an access point, may select an identifier that corresponds to specific time slots during which nodes with that particular identifier may transmit and/or receive. Nodes that are one hop away from each other may select different identifiers in order to ensure that neighboring nodes do not transmit and/or receive during the same time slots. In this manner, interference caused and/or experienced by a given node may be reduced.

  • Patent number: 8005072
Abstract: A plurality of CMTS devices are linked together and synchronized to facilitate communication between the respective CMTS devices and respective downstream cable modems. According to one embodiment of the invention, one of the CMTS devices is designated as a master device, and the other CMTS devices are designated as slave devices. The respective CMTS devices are connected to each other by means of a synchronization bus. The master CMTS device then generates and broadcasts a future time stamp value, which is received by the respective slave CMTS devices. When the time stamp counter in the master CMTS device reaches the transmitted value, a control signal is broadcast over the synchronization bus. The slave CMTS devices then retrieve the time stamp value and reset their respective local time stamp counters to the received value. In this manner, the CMTS devices are synchronized.

  • Patent number: 7995475
Abstract: The present application relates to an implementation of a reliable transport protocol that provides receiver-based congestion control within a computing system. An exemplary system includes a first network device and a second network device within a network. During a handshake procedure, a transmission rate at which data can be sent as well as an acceptable corruptive loss rate for a data path between the first network device and the second network device in the network is determined. The second network device then receives data sent from the first network device at the transmission rate. When the acceptable corruptive loss rate for received data has been exceeded, the second network device determines an amount by which to reduce the transmission rate, and then sends a notification to the first network device indicating the amount by which to reduce the transmission rate for subsequently transmitted data.

  • Patent number: 7986708
Abstract: A serial intelligent cell (SIC) and a connection topology for local area networks using Electrically-conducting media. A local area network can be configured from a plurality of SIC's interconnected so that all communications between two adjacent SIC's is both point-to-point and bidirectional. Each SIC can be connected to one or more other SIC's to allow redundant communication paths. Communications in different areas of a SIC network are independent of one another, so that, unlike current bus topology and star topology, there is no fundamental limit on the size or extent of a SIC network. Each SIC can optionally be connected to one or more data terminals, computers, telephones, sensors, actuators, etc., to facilitate interconnectivity among such devices. Networks according to the present invention can be configured for a variety of applications, including a local telephone system, remote computer bus extender, multiplexers, PABX/PBX functionality, security systems, and local broadcasting services.

  • Patent number: 7974302
Abstract: Provided is a distributed and asynchronous implicit token carrier sense multiple access/collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) protocol guaranteeing quality of service for both real time and non-real time traffic. The implicit token CSMA/CA protocol allocates a band in an entire bandwidth to voice traffic and allows the remaining bands to be used for data traffic. The implicit token CSMA/CA protocol includes applying a token passing protocol to transmit voice traffic in real time by having a band in an entire bandwidth allocated using a predetermined data frame and applying a CSMA/CA mechanism to transmit data traffic in non-real time by employing remaining bands not allocated to the voice traffic using another predetermined data frame.

  • Patent number: 7961592
Abstract: A variable rate transmission system transmits a variable rate data packet including an accompanying rate indication signal indicative of the transmission rate of the variable data packet. The data packet can be spread using a long pseudonoise (PN) code, the mask of which can be selected in accordance with the transmission rate of the variable rate data packet. A preamble, providing the transmission rate, can be punctured into an outgoing pilot signal. • Patent number: 7957332
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for providing memory efficient filtering of a received broadcast signal, filter expressions are compared to packet data in the broadcast signal and by a wireless device assembly to determine if a match exists. The wireless device assembly is able to perform such filtering with an associated host assembly in a sleep mode or with that host in an active mode. Upon finding a filter match, the wireless device assembly selectively communicates the received packet data to the host assembly for packet decoding and analysis. If the host assembly is in a sleep mode, the wireless device assembly may send a wakeup signal to the host assembly prior to transmitting the packet data.
