  • Patent number: 7852874
Abstract: A serial intelligent cell (SIC) and a connection topology for local area networks using Electrically-conducting media. A local area network can be configured from a plurality of SIC's interconnected so that all communications between two adjacent SIC's is both point-to-point and bidirectional. Each SIC can be connected to one or more other SIC's to allow redundant communication paths. Communications in different areas of a SIC network are independent of one another, so that, unlike current bus topology and star topology, there is no fundamental limit on the size or extent of a SIC network. Each SIC can optionally be connected to one or more data terminals, computers, telephones, sensors, actuators, etc., to facilitate interconnectivity among such devices. Networks according to the present invention can be configured for a variety of applications, including a local telephone system, remote computer bus extender, multiplexers, PABX/PBX functionality, security systems, and local broadcasting services.

  • Patent number: 7843940
Abstract: Disclosed are, inter alia, methods, apparatus, data structures, computer-readable media, and mechanisms, for filling token buckets of schedule entries, such as those used in, but not limited to, a scheduling system used in a computer or communications system (e.g., for sending packets, allocating processing resources, etc.). A scheduling system includes multiple schedule entries with a number of tokens and a last filled slot value. A period of time allocated for periodically updating the number of tokens for all of the schedule entries is divided into the slots, and each schedule entry is associated with a particular fill slot. Each particular schedule entry is repeatedly sequence through and updated during is corresponding slot; while in parallel, a next schedule entry to service is repeatedly identified and updated, while in parallel, ineligible entries schedule to be woken up for the current time slot are made eligible.

  • Patent number: 7826451
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for stateless group communication based on constructing and encoding sender based trees. The headers obtained by encoding the distribution trees are inserted in each communication packet. The encoding allows partial or full decoding of the distribution trees. The encoding is performed to minimize the overhead of the header and the processing required for partial decoding of the distribution tree. The invention includes mechanisms for processing the encoded header at intermediate nodes in the distribution tree in order to determine the next communication nodes and mechanisms for modification and re-encoding of the trees in order to provide resilience to network failures or to react to application level specified conditions.

  • Patent number: 7817679
Abstract: Transference of signaling frames on GERAN (GSM/EDGE radio Access Network) half rate channels utilizing a modulation scheme carrying n bits in one symbol. In order to be able to utilize the existing channel coding developed for channels with different modulations and to avoid high rate convolutional and block codes, the AMR signaling frame to be transferred is coded using a coding procedure defined for a GSM half rate channel utilizing a GMSK modulation scheme, the coding procedure outputting a coded output stream. In response to said coding, each bit of the coded output stream is repeated n times, whereby a repeated bit stream is obtained, and symbols to be transmitted are formed from the repeated bit stream.

  • Patent number: 7813359
Abstract: A gateway device is disclosed which processes only really necessary information for gatewaying and thereby prevents unnecessary increases in communication traffic on a communication bus to which data is sent through the gatewaying. When it is judged that the contents of received data concern a command that does not need gatewaying, the processing for gatewaying is inhibited. When it is judged that the contents of the received data show information that should be processed for gatewaying only when there is a change in the contents, the contents are compared with the latest contents of the same kind of information stored in a memory, to determine whether there is a change in the contents, and the processing for gatewaying is inhibited when it is determined that there is no change.

  • Patent number: 7813268
Abstract: Strategies are described for performing retry analysis in an environment which involves the transmission of media information from a source module to a target module. In the context of the source module, the retry analysis determines whether the source module should satisfy the retry requests issued by the target module. In the context of the target module, the retry analysis determines whether the target module should generate the retry requests in the first place. Novel request reporting formats are also described. The target module performs analysis to determine what reporting format it should use to convey the retry requests to the source module.

  • Patent number: 7809016
Abstract: An efficient policer (210-1, . . . , 210-M) based weighted fairness bandwidth distribution system (200) is disclosed. The system (200) is based on a plurality of policers (210-1, . . . , 210-M) and at least one queue (220). To achieve fairness, the rate for queuing packets is adaptively controlled. Specifically, first the queue occupancy is determined and it then is used for computing an attenuation value (Attn). This value is multiplied by the excess information rate of each policer (210-1, . . . , 210-M) to get a new excess information rate to be enforced.

  • Patent number: 7801175
Abstract: A method, a system, a transmitter and a receiver for identification of a time sliced elementary streams using PSI/SI tables. This identification provides a way to separate time-sliced elementary stream from non-time-sliced elementary streams by defining two descriptors in PSI/SI tables. A time slice identifier descriptor is defined, which can be used to identify elementary streams which are time sliced. This descriptor is also used to provide additional information about the transmitted elementary streams. The invention provides a way to announce additional information of the time sliced elementary streams via PSI/SI tables. Additionally, it provides a mechanism to categorize single elementary stream(s) as non-time sliced and time sliced. A way to identify time sliced elementary streams carried over DVB networks is disclosed and providing additional information on those streams. This can be done by using the time slice identifier descriptor.

  • Patent number: 7787495
Abstract: Scheduling of regular signal transmissions, e.g., between a plurality of wireless terminals and a base station in a cellular network in a manner designed to reduce or minimize recurring periodic interference encountered by individual wireless terminals from transmission in neighboring cells is described. Signal transmissions of wireless terminals in each cell are scheduled on a group slot basis. A group slot comprises a number of time slots. Each wireless terminal serviced by a particular base station is assigned a time slot in a group slot used by the particular base station. A given wireless terminal is assigned different time slots in successive group slots as specified by a hopping function. Adjacent, base stations e.g., base stations of physically neighboring or overlapping cells, use distinct, i.e., different, hopping functions for the scheduling purpose thereby avoiding correlation of slots between overlapping or adjacent cells during consecutive group slots.

  • Patent number: 7787499
Abstract: Maintaining synchronization when sending/receiving multiple channels of data with a corresponding common reference clock signal. Synchronization signals (e.g., pulses) are generated periodically and the timing of channels is adjusted. In an embodiment, multiple sequences of parallel data elements are received on corresponding parallel data channels using a first common clock signal. Each sequence of parallel data elements is converted to a corresponding sequence of serial data elements. The serial data elements are transmitted on a corresponding serial channel using a serial clock as a common reference. A synchronization signal may be generated periodically with a time period of (the number of bits in each parallel data element x the time period of the serial clock), wherein ‘×’ represents multiplication operation. As the parallel data channels are synchronized in short intervals, synchronization is maintained.
