Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a device configured for generating a number of content groups by grouping a number of tagged media segments according to their corresponding content designators. The device can be further configured for detect an activity of a user, determining a particular segment length and content designator according to the detected activity, and generating a selected content group according to the particular segment length and content designator. A content group is selected according to the particular segment length and the content designator. Other embodiments are disclosed.
Abstract: Methods and systems for transmitting an interruption-free version of a television program for recording on a user equipment device. In one aspect, a system transmits a first stream including a television program to a user equipment device. The system receives an indication that the television program is being recorded on the user equipment device. The system determines whether an interruption is imminent during transmission of the television program. In response to determining that the interruption is imminent, the system generates a second stream including the television program. The second stream does not include the interruption during the transmission of the television program. The system transmits the second stream to the user equipment device along with an instruction to switch recording of the television program from the first stream to the second stream.

Abstract: Improved technical functionality is provided to dynamically select and seamlessly play advertisements immediately before playing of a recorded program upon selection of the recorded program for playing, or upon other detected events and conditions associated with the set-top-box (STB) or user. In some embodiments, this is performed by using metadata which may be delivered to and stored on a digital video recorder (DVR) prior to recording the program, providing a technical solution to enable opportunities for additional advertisement impressions. Playing of the advertisement may also or instead occur upon the recorded program finishing playing. Thus, the technical solution provides the additional opportunity for the content creator and/or the satellite television or cable service provider to sell advertising spots in addition to those already sold for breaks within the recorded program.

An action may be scheduled to occur at a first time within the presentation of the media asset, where the action may interrupt the presentation of the media asset. When a current presentation position is approaching the first time, an option to delay the action may be generated for presentation. In response to receiving selection of the option to delay the action, the action may be scheduled to occur at a later second time within the presentation of the media asset.

Abstract: An encoder for encoding secondary media data including metadata and control data for primary media data is shown, wherein the encoder is configured to encode the secondary media data using adding redundancy or bandlimiting and wherein the encoder is configured to output the encoded secondary media data as a stream of digital words. Therefore, the stream of digital words may be formed such that it is capable to resist a typical processing of a digital audio stream. Furthermore, processors for processing a digital audio stream are able to process the stream of digital words, since the stream of digital words may be designed as an audio-like or analog-like digital stream.

Abstract: Techniques and mechanisms described herein facilitate the storage of digital media recordings. According to various embodiments, a system is provided comprising a processor, a storage device, Random Access Memory (RAM), an archive writer, and a recording writer. The archive writer is configured to retrieve a plurality of small multimedia segments (SMSs) in RAM and write the plurality of SMSs into an archive container file in RAM. The single archive container file may correspond to a singular multimedia file when complete. New SMSs retrieved from RAM are appended into the archive container file if the new SMSs also correspond to the singular multimedia file. The recording writer is configured to flush the archive container file to be stored as a digital media recording on the storage device once enough SMSs have been appended by the archive writer to the archive container file to complete the singular multimedia file.

Abstract: Disclosed embodiments provide smart device authentication and content transformation. A profile is created for members of a household. The member profiles include information about the members, including associated electronic devices, and a maximum allowable content rating (MACR). Using the associated electronic devices and/or other techniques, the presence of the members in proximity to content presentation devices is determined. In response to a member being detected in proximity to a content presentation device, and the content rating of the currently presented content exceeding the maximum allowable content rating (MACR) of the member in proximity, a content transformation is performed. The content transformation can include muting, pausing, changing, or otherwise obfuscating the presented content. Thus, the exposure of such content to the member is prevented or reduced. Embodiments allow users such as parents to obtain more control over the content that their children may be exposed to at their home.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method and system for collecting attentiveness information associated with a user's response to consuming a piece of media content. The attentiveness information is used to create an attentiveness-labelled behavioural data for the user's response. A computer-implemented attentiveness model may be generated by applying machine learning techniques to the a set of attentiveness-labelled behavioural data from multiple users. The system may comprise an annotation tool that facilitates human labelling of the user's response with attentiveness data. The resulting attentiveness model is therefore based on correlations indicative of attentiveness within the attentiveness-labelled behavioural data and/or physiological data that are based on real human cognition rather than a predetermined feature or combination of features.
