  • Patent number: 10750218
Abstract: A data analyzer engine receives feedback associated with delivery of content (such as streaming content) to multiple subscriber domains in a cable network environment. The data analyzer engine analyzes the feedback to identify attributes of current content consumption by playback devices operated in the subscriber domains. Based on the analyzed feedback, the data analyzer engine produces control information specifying data flow control rates in which the playback devices are assigned to retrieve content over a shared communication link in the cable network environment. Accordingly, data flow rates in a network environment (such as a subscriber domain) can be controlled to promote fairness and optimal use of available bandwidth amongst multiple playback devices sharing a respective communication link.

  • Patent number: 10701460
Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for a media guidance application that facilitates presenting, to a user, media assets that match a search expression by generating for display media asset identifiers corresponding to media assets that are scheduled for transmission to a plurality of users during a specific time interval. The media asset identifiers corresponding to media assets that match the search expression are distinguished from media asset identifiers that correspond to media assets that do not match the search expression. Furthermore, media asset identifiers corresponding to media assets that match the search expression are distinguished from each other based on an attribute of each media asset that matches the search expression.

  • Patent number: 10694252
Abstract: Techniques for stream sniping prevention are disclosed herein. A video game player may provide captured video of the video game for transmission to viewers. In some examples, an obfuscation component may detect, within the captured video, private game information regarding the player, for example using one or more non-visual detection techniques. The private game information may then be obfuscated in the video that is provided to the viewers, while still allowing the private game information to be displayed to the player. Also, in some examples, a user may issue a request associated with a video game, such as a request to join a video game, game server, and/or match. It may then be determined whether the user is currently receiving video of the video game from the player. If so, then the user may be blocked from joining the same video game, game server, and/or match as the player.

  • Patent number: 10674215
Abstract: A method of determining a relevancy parameter for a digital content item and a system for implementing the method. The digital content item is originated from a content channel associated with a recommendation system. The method is executable by the server. The method comprises: identifying a pool of users associated with the content channel, a given user of the pool of users being associated with the content channel. The method comprises using the pool of users to explore and predict a relevancy parameter. The relevancy parameter is then used for predicting relevancy parameter of the digital content item for a user outside of the pool of users based on the user interactions of the first user.

  • Patent number: 10674218
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for modeling the consistency of audiences viewing groups of media assets. For example, a media guidance application (e.g., executed on a server) may identify a first subset of user equipment that generated for display a first media asset (e.g., an episode of a series). The media guidance application may then identify a second subset of the first subset where the user equipment generated for display another media asset that is part of a group of media assets (e.g., another episode of the same series). Based on the number of user equipment in the second subset, the media guidance application may calculate a score for audience consistency for the group of media assets (e.g., the series) which can be used to rank the group of media assets among other groups of media assets.

  • Patent number: 10674194
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for seamlessly connecting devices based on relationships between the users of the respective devices. A media guidance application may determine that a first user has entered an environment (e.g., his/her mother's home) and may determine a frequency with which the first user enters the environment (e.g., daily). In response to determining that the first user visits frequently, the media guidance application may identify a second device in the environment (e.g., a smart TV) that a second user (e.g., the first user's mother) is authorized to grant access rights for. The media guidance application may determine a likelihood that the second user will grant the access rights for the second device to the first user, based on interaction data between the first user and the second user. In response to determining a high likelihood, the media guidance application may transmit the access rights.

  • Patent number: 10659244
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a multicast profile switching method. In the method, using a multicast profile management module, a multicast profile switching request message is received from a cable modem termination system CMTS. A multicast profile having a maximum rate and commonly supported by all current multicast group members is determined. When the multicast profile having the maximum rate is different from a current multicast profile that is running, a multicast profile switching instruction is sent to the CMTS, where the multicast profile switching instruction is used to instruct the CMTS to perform multicast profile switching.

  • Patent number: 10609438
Abstract: A method (and structure) includes forming a wireless ad hoc network with a plurality of sensors at a first location, the ad hoc network being a localized, decentralized network wherein each participating sensor has an equal status on the network for performing network functions and is free to associate with any other ad hoc network device in a link range of a vicinity of the first location. Data is transmitted from the plurality of sensors via the ad hoc network, for consumption by an at-home user located at a second location different from said first location. Each sensor indicates a location and a directivity of sensing in the vicinity of the first location, so that the plurality of sensors thereby can provide data sufficient for the at-home user to be immersed in an experience at the first location.

  • Patent number: 10602208
Abstract: Social media inputs from users, and specific to a content of a broadcast program, are analyzed to determine a sentiment value expressed relative to a portion of the content by a user. A group is formed of those users whose sentiment values expressed relative to the portion within a defined period during the broadcast of the program are within a specified tolerance value of sentiment value expressed by the user. A time zone of a location extracted from a social media input of the user is assigned to the group. A fabricated event that evokes a predicted sentiment is inserted in the broadcast program. A confidence value for the time zone is computed by comparing a sentiment value of a response by the group to the fabricated event with the predicted sentiment value. The group's placement in the time zone is confirmed when the confidence value exceeds a threshold.
