Patent number: 6836967Abstract: A folding knife includes a handle and a blade pivotally supported on the handle. A tang of the blade includes a cam surface. The cam surface has a substantially arcuate guiding portion and an engaging portion that extends continuously from one end of the guiding portion. A notch formed on an upper edge of the handle is provided with a lock mechanism. The lock mechanism includes a guide member, which is fixed to the handle in the notch, a hollow lock tube, which is supported on the guide member, and a coil spring, which is accommodated in the lock tube. The lock tube is movable along the longitudinal direction of the handle between a lock position for engaging the engaging portion and an unlock position separated from the engaging portion. When the blade is in the open position, the coil spring moves the lock tube toward the lock position. Thus, the blade is securely locked in the open position.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 2003Date of Patent: January 4, 2005Assignee: Gerber Sakai Co., Ltd.Inventor: Yoshiro Sakai

Patent number: 6829827Abstract: An artistic knife with spare blades, including a main body in which a blade seat is back and forth slidably disposed. The main body is formed with a receptacle corresponding to the blade seat for receiving multiple spare blades. Each blade has more than one engaging notch. The blade seat is provided with a transversely movable engaging block corresponding to the engaging notch of the blade for inserting therein. When the blade seat is slided forward, the blade is driven to extend out of the main body. The main body has a guide rail corresponding to the engaging block. By means of the guiding and restriction of the guide rail, in the travel of the blade pushed out by the blade seat, the engaging block is inserted into the engaging notches of the blade deeper and deeper. In returning travel, the depth by which the engaging block is inserted in the engaging notch is gradually reduced until it is slightly smaller than the thickness of the blade. Therefore, the engaging block can be truly engaged with the blade.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 2001Date of Patent: December 14, 2004Inventor: Han Chung Tseng

Patent number: 6826986Abstract: A sawing system (200) incorporates a vision zone (220) between a loading/unloading zone (115) and a sawing zone (210). This arrangement allows a dual spindle counter rotating saw assembly (230) to be more rigidly mounted, which reduces the displacement of the saw assembly during the sawing process. This, advantageously reduces the variation in the cut made by the saw blades of the saw assembly to comply with a predetermined required tolerance. In addition, with the vision zone (220) located between the loading/unloading zone (115) and the sawing zone (210), a semiconductor wafer or substrate is transported from the loading/unloading zone (115) to the vision zone (220) without passing the sawing zone (210). Consequently, exposure of a semiconductor wafer or substrate to water or debris from the sawing process is avoided, and imaging can be performed at the vision zone (220) without water or debris adversely affecting the imaging.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 2002Date of Patent: December 7, 2004Inventors: Ah Beng Lim, Eng Hwa Chua, Steven John Diprinzio

Patent number: 6820527Abstract: A table saw includes a suspension rod having a bottom face formed with a flattened face, and a motor gear box rotatably mounted on the suspension rod and having a top face formed with a recess. When the motor gear box touches the suspension rod, the flattened face of the suspension rod is received in the recess of the motor gear box, thereby reducing the vertical distance between the rotation shaft of the circular blade and the work table, so that the height of the circular blade protruding outward from the work table is increased, thereby increasing the cutting height of the circular blade, so that the circular blade may be used to cut a workpiece having a larger thickness, thereby increasing the cutting efficiency of the table saw.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2002Date of Patent: November 23, 2004Inventor: Chin-Chin Chang

Patent number: 6813981Abstract: An apparatus and a method are disclosed for cutting cable. The apparatus has an elongate handle with a longitudinal axis extending from a first to a second end. An eyelet extends from the second end and defines an opening through which the cable is inserted. A first cutting surface slides within the elongate handle and extends beyond the inner wall of the eyelet. When the end of the cable is inserted into the opening of the eyelet, the first cutting surface may be extended beyond the inner wall of the eyelet and into contact with the cable. As the handle is rotated about the cable, the first cutting surface cuts the cable. A second cutting surface may protrude from the handle for slitting an outer sheath of the cable.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2002Date of Patent: November 9, 2004Assignee: Bellsouth Intellectual Property CorporationInventors: Blake R. Patent number: 6810780Abstract: A compound miter saw includes a unique table assembly which incorporates a table locking mechanism and a detent override mechanism. The lock mechanism incorporated into the table assembly is movable between two positions. The first position locks the table to the miter saw and the second position permits rotation of the table. The detent override mechanism is normally engaged such that it will releasably hold the table in one of a plurality of popular miter angles. The detent override mechanism allows the operator to disengage the detent system to avoid the holding of the table during its rotation.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 2001Date of Patent: November 2, 2004Assignee: Black & Decker Inc.Inventors: Warren A. Patent number: 6807888Abstract: There is provided a recording material cutting device having a mechanism for cutting a recording material by the whole edge of a cutter blade so as to prolong the service life of the cutter blade, while allowing to simplify the structure of the device, to downsize the device, and to improve the straightness of the cut portion of the recording material. Upon starting the cutting, the cutting-in depth of the cutter blade 130 is the deepest, and the recording material 113 is cut by the near-root portion of the cutter blade 130. As the whole of the cutter unit 112 moves in the direction C while the seizing member 123 abuts onto the cammed surface of the cammed portion 132, the cutter holder 122 is gradually lifted up so that the cutting-in depth of the cutter blade 130 into the recording material 113 is gradually shallowed.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 2001Date of Patent: October 26, 2004Assignee: Canon Finetech Inc.Inventors: Naoki Kiyohara, Yousuke Tatsumi, Kazutaka Miyamoto

Patent number: 6796209Abstract: A cutting machine for automatically trimming edges of folded printed products has a first cutting station with a cutting element for performing a front cut at a front cut location on an open side of the printed products. A feeding device transports the printed products to the first cutting station. A transport device transports the printed products received from the feeding device in a transport direction through the first cutting station. A measuring device measures a position of each of the printed products in the first cutting station before reaching a cutting position. A control device controls the transport device based on the position measured by the measuring device such that a deviation of the position measured by the measuring device from a nominal position is corrected during further transport of the printed products.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 2001Date of Patent: September 28, 2004Assignee: Grapha-Holding AGInventor: Heinz Boss

Patent number: 6792839Abstract: A rotating shearing device for cropping fast-running rolling stock, in particular wire, includes two axially cutting annular knives which rotate about their axes at the same rotational speed. The two axially cutting annular knives include end cutting edges directed toward one another which converge to the clearance required for separating running stock during the cutting operation and lie in planes which are arranged at an acute angle to one another and intersect one another in a line. The rolling stock is guided toward the shearing device by a front guide and guided away from the shearing device by a rear guide. The front guide is pivotable to change in the relative position between the rolling stock and the cutting body so that the rolling stock may be guided either through the space between the annular knives which is free for the cut-free passage of the rolling stock or into the wedge-shaped cutting region of the annular knives.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 2001Date of Patent: September 21, 2004Assignee: SMS Demag AGInventor: Günter Panzer
