  • Patent number: 7021184
Abstract: An inserter input system including a web feeder providing a web of printed material to be split by a web slitting knife along the web's direction of travel. The split web is then cut transverse to the direction of travel by a rotary cutter operating at a first velocity, resulting in side-by-side individual sheets. Downstream of the rotary cutter, a right angle turn mechanism receives each of the side-by-side sheets and reorients them by ninety degrees. Further the right angle turn reorients the sheets into a serial shingled arrangement. A high speed separation nip pulls individual shingled sheets out from the shingled arrangement. The speed of the separation nip is such that a predetermined gap between the previously shingled sheets is formed.

  • Patent number: 7017460
Abstract: A method and arrangement for adjusting a feed rate of a crosscut saw (1), in particular, in a harvesting head of a forest machine during the crosscutting of wood (9) in the apparatus. A feed force (F) of the crosscut saw and/or a rotating rate (vchain) of a cutter chain (5) revolving around a guide bar (4) are thus controlled. The control is implemented such that first the feed rate (vfeed) of the crosscut saw (1) is measured at given intervals. By adjusting thereafter the feed force of the actuator (2) controlling the crosscut saw and/or the rotating rate (vchain) of the cutter chain (5) and by determining the effect of the performed adjustment on the feed rate of the crosscut saw any change (?v) in the feed rate and the most advantageous adjustment measure to be performed next is concluded.

  • Patent number: 7013782
Abstract: A cutting/stripping apparatus, and methods of operation thereof, which include at least one first blade for rotary motion about the central axis of a multi-layered workpiece, and at least two, second members/blades reciprocally movable along essentially linear axes, toward and away from the one another while remaining equally spaced on opposite sides of the central axis. The general structure of the apparatus may be a single, orbiting blade to provide cutting of the outer layer about its entire periphery and a pair of members movable toward and away from one another to engage the outer layer. The pair of members may have linear, opposed edges, or may have a V-shaped or radiused (curved) cutting edges. Electronic controls and software, together with selective operator inputs which define operation of the apparatus, permit cutting the outer layer of the workpiece by either the rotary blade or the reciprocating blades.

  • Patent number: 7013783
Abstract: A slide cam die including a slide cam base, a wedge-shaped slide cam sliding on a guide surface of the slide cam base and mounting a press tool such as a punch or a trimming blade thereon, and an actuating cam driving the slide cam in contact therewith. A press tool is mounted on the slide cam with an adapter plate interposed therebetween. With this configuration, when a pierce punch, or a flange block, or the like, needs to be removed for reasons such as the adjustment, the pierce punch or the flange block can be individually demounted without removing the entire slide cam. This results in reduced working time. In addition, since only the adapter plate is replaced, cost savings can be achieved by reusing the slide cam. Furthermore, a given slide cam can be used while still maintaining flexibility in design and use of the slide cam die.

  • Patent number: 7011008
Abstract: A device for cutting pieces of material comprising a base, a bridge assembly and a lever arm. The bridge assembly includes a gear assembly operatively connected to the base. The lever arm is coupled to the gear assembly, and a linking member is coupled to the gear assembly; A material clamp is operatively connected to the linking member, and a cutting blade is operatively connected to the linking member. The movement of the lever arm of the first position towards the second position results in the gear assembly and the linking member cooperating to cause the material clamp to move towards the base and affix the position of pieces of material located between the base and the material clamp. The cutting blade comes into contact with and severs the pieces of material after the position of the pieces of material has been fixed by the material clamp.

  • Patent number: 7007391
Abstract: The present invention is a C-shaped plastic tubing cutter having a C-shaped grasping portion and a fixed cutting blade. The grasping portion has an opening for receiving the tubing whereby the width of the opening is measurably smaller than the diameter of the tubing to permit snap engagement of the tubing into the grasping portion upon sufficient force and retention therein. In addition, the inner diameter of the grasping portion can be measurably smaller than the outer diameter of the tubing to promote securement of the tubing within the grasping portion to better facilitate precision cutting. Once engaged, a grasping bias force brings the inner surface of the grasping portion into substantial circumferential contact with the tubing to again promote securement and cutting. The circumferential contact is greater than 50 percent, and generally less than 75 percent, of the tubing circumference.

  • Patent number: 7007394
Abstract: A two-position, quick-change hacksaw consists of a back member, handle structure adjacent a rearward end portion of the back member, and a swing arm adjacent the forward end. The free end of the swing arm and the forward end portion of the back member have coplanar blade-engaging elements thereon which serve to engage the forward end of the blade and which are commonly disposed on an arc that circumscribes a third coplanar blade-engaging element disposed on a coupling block of a tensioning mechanism for mounting the rearward end of the blade. Two coplanar sets of transversely paired engagement elements enable mounting of the blade both in a plane parallel to a medial plane of the frame and also in a plane disposed at a substantial angle thereto. In one configuration, with the swing arm in its inoperative position, the saw is adapted for cutting within a relatively confined space; with the swing arm in its operative position the saw is configured for cutting within a relatively unconfined space.

  • Patent number: 7004055
Abstract: A method and apparatus for steering saw blades which includes an arbor rotatable about a rotation axis. Saw blades are mounted on the arbor in such a manner that the saw blades rotate with the arbor and are angularly adjustable in relation to the rotation axis of the arbor. A rigid guide assembly is provided having a plurality of guides each of which accommodate one the saw blades, such that movement of the guide assembly angularly adjusts the saw blades in unison. A leading edge of each of the saw blades is positioned along a common alignment plane. A support is provided for the guide assembly. The support has an underlying pivot axis spaced from and substantially perpendicular to the rotational axis of the arbor. This pivot axis is on the alignment plane such that the leading edge of each of the saw blades remain positioned along the alignment plane as the guide assembly is pivoted to move the guide assembly to alter the angular positioning of the saw blades.
