  • Patent number: 9001691
Abstract: Apparatus, methods, and machine-readable articles of manufacture improve reliability and scalability of a messaging system. In some embodiments, the system's configuration data and subscriber information are stored in a central repository of a core node, and replicated to one or more non-core nodes. Data replication may be performed in real-time or near real-time, periodically, sporadically, or otherwise. Nodes may rely on the replicated data to provide the system's subscribers and outside callers with services that do not involve updating of configuration or subscriber data. In this way, the non-core nodes may continue to process calls when the core node is unavailable. For example, the non-core nodes can route calls to the appropriate subscribers without relying on the core. As another example, die non-core nodes can take messages from callers when the core node is unavailable. The messages may be queued for posting and delivery when the core node becomes available.

  • Patent number: 8982886
Abstract: A computer-implemented method that includes creating a master copy of a header for all packets of a data transmission event, the master copy including a plurality of intact constant header information, the plurality of intact constant header information being constant for all packets of the data transmission event, storing unique header information for all packets of the data transmission event, the unique header information including information unique to at least one packet of the data transmission event, tokenizing identities of each packet of the data transmission event to create a tokenized packet ID for each packet, and indexing the stored unique header information based on the tokenizing. According to the method, at packet read-time, unique header information associated with the packet is overlayed onto the master copy to create a unique packet.

  • Patent number: 8964586
Abstract: Embodiments support stringent Quality of Service (QoS) requirements using adaptations to the existing Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) protocols. In systems using an enhanced BLE protocol, the master send a poll frame at selected connection intervals or poll intervals. The duration of the connection interval and/or poll interval may be calculated based upon desired QoS parameters, such as delay, target packet error rate (PER), frame error rate (FER), and/or jitter. The master may consider the connection interval lost if a frame is not received from the slave after a predetermined number (m) of consecutive poll frames are transmitted. The value m may be set relatively high to provide more robustness in the system. However, the poll interval may also need to be adjusted to meet QoS requirements. The slave may be required to transmit a packet—that may or may not carry data—in response to every mth received poll.

  • Patent number: 8964767
Abstract: Some embodiments provide a novel method for forwarding a packet at a managed switching element in a first domain. The method receives a packet from a local machine. The method encapsulates the packet with a first context identifier that identifies a first logical port of a first logical switching element that couples to machines in both the first domain and a second domain. The first logical port maps to a destination address of the packet. Based on a mapping of the first logical port to a second logical port of a second logical switching element that couples to machines in only the first domain, the method encapsulates the packet with a second context identifier that identifies the second logical port. The method transmits the twice-encapsulated packet out of a port of the managed switching element based on the second context identifier.

  • Patent number: 8964528
Abstract: For a network that includes several managed edge switching elements and several managed non-edge switching elements that are for implementing a logical switching element, some embodiments provide a method of distributing packet processing across the several managed non-edge switching elements. The method receives a packet for processing through the logical switching element. Based on a determination that the packet needs to be processed by a managed non-edge switching element, the method determines a particular managed non-edge switching element of the several managed non-edge switching elements to forward the packet. The method forwards the packet to the particular managed non-edge switching element for the particular managed non-edge switching element to process the packet.

  • Patent number: 8964727
Abstract: A packetised data network includes IP telephones (ITs) and a network intelligence (NI). All of the keys of each IT are “soft” keys (i.e., they have no fixed function). The NI associates a configuration data structure with the IT which correlates the keys with functions, and, based on this, may control the display of the IT to indicate the current function of certain of the soft keys. Some of the functions are requests for data services at the telephone (e.g., video or programmed audio over the internet). When a user requests such a service with a key press, the NI sets up the service between the data source and the telephone. This may require associating a new configuration data structure with the keys of the IT. The IT user may activate multiple data services through the NI.

  • Patent number: 8958298
Abstract: A novel method for logically routing a packet between a source machine that is in a first logical domain and a destination machine that is in a second logical domain is described. The method configures a managed switching element as a second-level managed switching element. The method configures a router in a host that includes the second-level managed switching element. The method communicatively couples the second-level managed switching element with the router. The method causes the router to route a packet when the router receives a packet from the first logical domain that is addressed to the second logical domain.

  • Patent number: 8953446
Abstract: A network device receives a join request on a downstream interface, wherein the join request specifies a source device and multicast group, wherein the network device is positioned within a core network of a multicast virtual private network (MVPN) that transmits multicast traffic between the source device and a plurality of receivers associated with customer sites. The network device selects an upstream router to which to send the join request from among a plurality of upstream routers on paths leading to the source device, so as to avoid creating a join request loop in the core network. At least one of the upstream routers is positioned on an Exterior Border Gateway Protocol (EBGP) path toward the source device, and at least one of the upstream routers is positioned on an Interior BGP (IBGP) path toward the source device. The network device sends the join request to the selected upstream device.
