  • Patent number: 8855099
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate multiple-phase selective connection establishment in wireless communications networks. Radio resource control (RRC) layer communications can be instantiated between a mobile device and base station. Additional information can be required by a downstream network component regarding the mobile device. Accordingly, the RRC resources can be utilized to transmit the additional information from the mobile device to the network component to facilitate the multiple-phase establishment. This can be accomplished using non-access stratum (NAS) messages. Further, the information can relate to authorization, security re-configuration, context re-synchronization, an identity of the mobile device, and the like.

  • Patent number: 8811373
Abstract: Systems, methodologies, and devices are described that facilitate transmitting a guard time parameter to a mobile device to facilitate rate matching data around a guard time region associated with a downlink subframe of a radio frame sequence. A base station transmits the guard time parameter via PBCH or DBCH to the mobile device. The base station rate matches data associated with PDSCH, comprising DBCH, around the guard time region, and transmits PDSCH to the mobile device. The mobile device identifies the guard time parameter and rate matches at least a portion of the information received via the PDSCH around the guard time region to facilitate enhanced reception of PDSCH. Optionally, a radio frame sequence can be structured so that a subframe immediately following a subframe containing DBCH is a downlink subframe, which can be known by the mobile device a priori or based on a downlink subframe parameter.

  • Patent number: 8797942
Abstract: Random access coverage is assured while at the same time supporting high uplink data rates in a same service area served by a base station. A set of radio resources are shared by multiple mobile terminals for transmitting uplink to the base station including requests for access to service from the base station and transmissions for active connections with the base station. A first repeating time period and a second different repeating time period are defined. Uplink transmission grants are scheduled for active connections that permit use of a greater amount of the radio resources during the first repeating time period. Uplink transmission grants are also scheduled for active connections that permit use of a smaller amount of those resources during the second repeating time period. At least some random access requests to the base station are controlled to occur only during the second repeating time period.

  • Patent number: 8792402
Abstract: A method and apparatus for coordinating communication in a wireless sensor network may include a plurality of nodes, such as routers, edge nodes, data accumulators and/or gateways. Time management functions, such as determining an elapsed time, may be controlled based on a detected temperature, e.g., a temperature detected at a node, and/or based on a detected clock skew between two or more clocks in two or more different devices. Accurate time management may allow for devices to more accurately coordinate communication instances, e.g., communication that occurs at periodic wake up times. A cluster head, such as a data accumulator, may be associated with a network after its initial formation and cause nodes in the network to alter their hierarchy in the network, thereby making the cluster head accumulator a parent to nodes in the network. Nodes having a relatively lower hop count may have a higher battery capacity than nodes having a higher hop count.

  • Patent number: 8761035
Abstract: A communication system, network, interface, and port architecture are provided for transporting data across a ring network. A network node operating as a first timing master generates a set of frames, each frame having a preamble, a data field and a time count field, which represents a portion of the time information associated with the set of frames. This time information may include counted time units, like seconds, or a number of generated and transmitted over the network. As the individual frames of a set of frames are generated and sent on the network, they pass other network nodes and are forwarded through the ring bus to the first timing master which receives at least a portion of the set it is still generating. This enables a received time count field to be compared with a transmitted time count field of the same set. If the fields are identical, there is no other timing master on the bus.

  • Patent number: 8737291
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for processing a downlink (DL) subframe of an orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) or an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) frame are provided. By arranging the DL-MAP information elements (IEs) in a DL-MAP of the DL subframe to correspond chronologically to the arrangement of their associated data bursts in the OFDM or OFDMA frame at a base station (BS), a user terminal receiving that frame may be able to start decoding the data bursts in the DL subframe without having to wait until all of the DL-MAP IEs have been parsed and decoded. In this manner, the user terminal may decode the data bursts while simultaneously parsing a remaining portion of the DL-MAP, and the time for processing the entire frame may be reduced, thereby increasing the processing speed.
