  • Patent number: 7724485
Abstract: An electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection circuit uses two N-channel field effect transistors (NFETs) to conduct ESD current from a first to a second supply node. During the ESD event, an ESD detection circuit couples the gates of both NFETs to the first supply node through separate conductive paths. In one novel aspect, an RC trigger circuit includes a capacitance that is charged through a resistance. The resistance involves a P-channel transistor whose gate is coupled to the gate of the second NFET. During a normal power-up condition, the P-channel transistor is conductive, thereby preventing the RC trigger from triggering if the supply voltage VDD were to rise rapidly. In another novel aspect, a novel level-shifting inverter drives the second NFET. The level-shifting inverter uses a pull down resistor to avoid snap-back and also isolates the gate of the second NFET from a capacitively loaded third supply node.

  • Patent number: 7715164
Abstract: An embedded type multifunctional integrated structure and a method for manufacturing the same are disclosed. The present invention utilizes the concept of multi-layer design to integrated more than two passive components on a component structure that would be adhered to a substrate. Hence, the embedded type multifunctional integrated structure has an OCP function, an OVP function, an anti-EMI function, and an anti-ESD function at the same time. Therefore, the present invention effectively integrated two or more than one passive components in order to increase function of the embedded type multifunctional integrated structure. Moreover, the present invention effectively reduces the size of the passive components on a PCB and reduces the number of solder joints.

  • Patent number: 7701689
Abstract: A protector block assembly interfaces a plurality of subscriber lines to communication equipment, such as digital subscriber line (DSL) modems. The assembly has a protector block into which surge protection modules are plugged. Each surge protection module limits the current that may pass from a respective subscriber line to communication equipment protected by the assembly. When plugged into the protector block, the surge protection modules are oriented such that crosstalk interference from the protector block is canceled thereby reducing the amount of crosstalk introduced by the protector block.

  • Patent number: 7656637
Abstract: A power control system with a pseudo-power up, an aircraft including the power control system and a method of controlling power in an aircraft. On-board wiring is protected from faults by electronic circuit breakers (ECBs), which may also control AC/DC electrical power supplies of on-board electrical/electronic equipment. A computer processor operating a user interface, e.g., a graphical user interface (GUI), through a display. An on-board store stores the GUI, other computer applications and the current state of each ECB, e.g., in a breaker state table. In a pseudo-power mode up, the stored circuit breaker state is available without providing power to the ECBs and, correspondingly to the coupled on-board electrical systems. When terminated, the system can power off, or proceed to normal power where each ECB is configured according to the breaker state table prior to providing power to protected systems.

  • Patent number: 7656633
Abstract: An apparatus and method for protecting an AC load from half-wave rectified power detects a half-wave rectified voltage or current, sets a status indication indicating the type of asymmetric fault causing the half-wave rectified power, and selectively turns the SSPC ON or OFF depending on the type of fault. There are two example circumstances that can cause an asymmetric fault: when the SSPC is OFF and a switch is shorted (“SSPC Failed Shorted”), or when the SSPC is commanded ON and a switch remains open (“SSPC Failed Open”). If the SSPC is OFF when the half-wave rectified AC voltage or current is detected, an “SSPC Failed Shorted” status indication is set, and the SSPC is turned ON to clear the fault. If the SSPC is commanded ON when the half-wave rectified AC voltage or current is detected, an “SSPC Failed Open” status indication is set, and the SSPC is turned OFF to clear the fault.

  • Patent number: 7649728
Abstract: The present invention relates to suppressing wear and contamination of the electrode needle as well as effectively removing the electricity from a charged body. An electricity removal mode in which the electrode needle is applied with a high voltage to produce ions and a halt mode in which the electrode needle is halted are provided, that are alternatively selected based on a selection of a user. The halt mode includes a halt period during which the high voltage is not basically applied on the electrode needle. When a self discharge occurs by approach of a charged body in this halt period and an absolute value of current that flows through the resistance exceeds the first threshold value, the electricity removal operation is initiated in which the high voltage is applied on the electrode needle to produce ions. Subsequently, after a predetermined time period passes, for example, the electricity removal operation is terminated and the halt period is resumed.

  • Patent number: 7646579
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention prevent a spindle motor from stopping rotation while data on a magnetic disk is being erased by using a permanent magnet. In one embodiment, data in the whole area of the magnetic disk is erased as a consequence of the magnetic disk rotating in the magnetic field of the permanent magnet located so as to face a part of the magnetic disk. A back yoke is located so as to face a base. The back yoke gives a magnetic force to the spindle motor in the opposite direction of the magnetic force of the erasing permanent magnet so that the fluid dynamic bearing spindle motor can retain the rotation as required without stopping rotation.
