  • Patent number: 4414016
Abstract: Apparatus for the pelletization of heat-liquifiable materials, such as metallurgical slags, consists of feed means for the molten material, these feed means depositing the material on a downwardly-extending feed plate over which it flows while it is mixed with water, if water is necessary to promote the expansion of the molten material and for control of the cooling. The material then flows on to a first rotating radially-vaned drum or rotor by which it is projected into the air for simultaneous cooling and pelletization. The feed means comprises flow control means such that any flow greater than a predetermined maximum is fed onto a second feed plate disposed above the first, from which the excess molten material flows on to a second rotating radially-vaned drum or rotor operative in like manner to the first. The flow control means may comprise for example a dam over which the excess material flows.

The heat recovery method from gasified products of hydrocarbon of the invention is to introduce the gas containing oily matters produced by gasification of hydrocarbon into the fluidizied bed where heat is recovered by indirect heat exchange between said product gas and the cooling agent passing through the heat transfer tube arranged in the fluidized bed, in which said product gas is passed through high temperature fluidized bed kept at about 450.degree.-500.degree. C. and then through the low temperature fluidized bed kept at about 250.degree.-300.degree. C. successively and that the heat of said product gas is recovered by heat exchange in said high temperature fluidized bed and low temperature fluidized bed respectively.

  • Patent number: 4410347
Abstract: In a glass melting operation, cullet is employed as a particulate emissions collector. Cullet of a selected size is contacted with exhaust gases in a gas/solid contact vessel wherein particulates are deposited onto the cullet. Double screening of cullet is employed to avoid introducing cullet dust to the gas stream. Electrostatic means may be employed to enhance particulate collection in the bed of cullet.

  • Patent number: 4409013
Abstract: Article handling apparatus for use in conjunction with a glassware forming machine is effective to remove finished ware from a dead plate where it has been placed to cool and transfer it to a moving conveyor. An electronic control synchronizes the movements of the apparatus with the cycle of the forming machine and deposits the ware on the moving conveyor with a component of velocity in the direction of the conveyor movement which effects smooth transfer to the conveyor irrespective of variations in conveyor speed.

  • Patent number: 4409012
Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically monitoring the amount of batch material floating on an irradiant pool of melt in a glass melting furnace is disclosed. A video camera is positioned so as to view the surface of the batch and melt mixture through a window formed in a wall of the furnace tank. The video signal is digitized by a computer into a plurality of pixel signals. The pixel signals can be utilized to generate a histogram relating the number of digitized pixel signals to a relative light intensity scale. The generated histogram will be bimodal, with one peak centering around a lower scale value corresponding to the darker batch pixels and the other peak centering around a higher scale value corresponding to the lighter melt pixels. A suitable threshold, such as the minimum point between the two peaks, can be selected to separate the two peaks.

  • Patent number: 4402721
Abstract: An I. S. glassware forming machine is controlled by a minicomputer in which a stored sequence of events is accessibly stored in memory such that the identity and condition of a plurality of solenoid valves is programmed to occur at predetermined times in each cycle of the machine. The feeder provides a once per feeder cycle input to the minicomputer and a function generator produces trigger pulses each millisecond so that a factor Q can be calculated to relate these trigger pulses to fractional portions of the cycle, and hence to the event timings stored in memory. The sequence of events stored in memory comprise a threaded list of elements, each of which has four parts. The first part comprises the fractional part of the cycle at which the particular event is to occur and the last part the address of the next succeeding element. The second part contains information to be interpreted for display on an operator's console, and to permit orderly access to the information contained in the four word element.
