    Abstract: Nephelometric method for sequential determination of protein and fat in a milk sample. Distinct reagent solutions are added to a milk sample which are effective to sequentially form colloidal dispersions of protein and fat, respectively, while effecting solubilization of the other. Nephelometric readings are taken after the addition of each reagent solution and, as a result thereof, the measured turbidity is a direct function of the particular solid dispersed.

    Abstract: A combustion tube for preparing samples for analysis of pollution materials, such as mercury and lead, or isotopes such as tritium and carbon 14, having at least one group of oxygen-supplying tubes disposed downstream in the tube relative to an organic sample and the direction of the oxygen flow. The combustion tube is surrounded by coiled heating wire to heat the interior of the tube to cause combustion of the sample. A gas inlet is provided upstream of the sample for the injection of oxygen, nitrogen, or the like, and a gas outlet is provided at the extreme downstream end of the tube for the exhaustion of gases contained in the tube. Complete combustion of the sample is assured by providing capillary apertures in the oxygen-supplying tubes for the oxygen to exit therefrom in a fine stream.

    Abstract: In the reaction contrivance disclosed which serves the purpose of oxidizing hydrocarbons over a catalyst, with the catalyst being disposed in a casing of the contrivance. Next to an inlet into a reactor disposed in the casing, is a mixing chamber fitted rigidly, and linked with the casing of the contrivance. A separator is arranged at the outlet of the reactor. The mixing chamber provides a means of forming a reaction mixture of the reactants and the catalyst drawn from the casing and into the reactor. By virtue of this arrangement the entire surface of catalyst is in contact with the reactants and the yield of final product increases.

    Abstract: A process for vapor phase ammoxidation of hydrocarbons which comprises reacting vapors of ammonia and said hydrocarbon in the presence of a molten salt eutectic mixture of V.sub.2 O.sub.5 and K.sub.2 O, said molten salt being atomized in the presence of said ammonia and hydrocarbon, and, optionally, said spent molten salt being regenerated by air oxidation and recycled for reuse. The invention also embodies an apparatus for the ammoxidation process which comprises a reactor vessel fitted with (a) input means for ammonia and hydrocarbon, (b) an atomizing apparatus within said reactor, (c) means for feeding the molten eutectic salt from an upper reservoir to said atomizing apparatus, (d) a lower reservoir for spent molten salt, and (e) a gas-lift to move said spent salt from said lower reservoir to said upper reservoir.
