Abstract: Cooperating structure is provided on a deck plate and an anti-reverse actuator for assembling the actuator to a reel frame for rotation relative to the deck plate without any fasteners. In one embodiment an elongate mounting element projects rearwardly from the deck plate and has an associated keying element. The actuator has an opening to accept the body and key element with the actuator and mounting element in a first relative rotational position. With the mounting element body aligned with the opening, the actuator can be pressed forwardly until the keying element is extended entirely through the actuator opening. The actuator is then turned to a second relative rotational position which places the keying element behind a shoulder defined by the actuating element, thereby prohibiting escape of the actuator from the deck plate.
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a fishing reel having as its principal features a manually adjustable, automatic, drag differential which applies greater resistance to rotation of the line spool in the line letting out rotation than in the winding up direction; a closely related manually engageable brake for selective added resistance to spool rotation in the letting out direction; a dynamically balance free-standing spindle and removable line spool combination wherein the two are interlocked for joint rotation, while spools may be easily and rapidly interchanged in a spindle as desired; and the structure in the spool side walls with an arrangement of cutout portions which provide dynamic balance and substantially vibrationless high speed rotation and lightness in weight and ventilation of the spool, without the requirement for addition of counter weights for balancing the spool.
Abstract: An improved anti-reverse slide switch for a fishing reel is disclosed. The fishing reel includes a rotor, a spool, reel housing, anti-reverse pawl, and anti-reverse gear. The mechanism includes a slide button and a leaf spring. The slide button comprises an exterior control knob, an internal frame portion, an operation arm adapted to actuate the anti-reverse pawl, and a neck portion. The operation arm extends from one side of the internal frame portion, and the neck connects the exterior control knob and the internal frame portion. The neck slidingly engages an opening formed in the reel casing. The leaf spring includes a main body formed with a recessed portion, a projection and a holding means. The projection is positioned at the main body and is engageable and disengageable with respect to a protrusion formed at an inner surface of the reel casing. The recessed portion is fitted with the neck portion, and the holding means has a U-shape portion extending from one side of the main body.
Abstract: A drag mechanism for applying a braking force against rotation of a spool with respect to a spool shaft of a spinning fishing reel. The drag mechanism is provided with a first adjuster for setting a minimum braking force and a second adjuster for adjusting the minimum braking force to a maximum braking force. As a result the braking force is easy to adjust while compensating the minimum braking force.
Abstract: An improvement in a fishing reel of the type having a housing, a line-carrying spool which is rotatable upon line being drawn off the spool, a friction generating structure rotatable with the spool and drag applying structure for biasably engaging the friction generating structure to produce a drag force resisting rotation of the spool. A first drag actuating means is provided for movement in a first manner to adjustably increase bias of the drag applying structure against the friction generating structure at a first rate. Second drag actuating structure is provided for movement in a corresponding first manner to adjustably increase bias of the drag applying structure against the friction generating structure at a second rate, that is different than the first rate. The user can selectively operate the first and second drag actuating structure depending on the desired rate of drag change.
Abstract: In a toroidal coil winding machine to wind a tape or heavy wire on a toroidal core, the shuttle retains a length of wire or tape formed into a coil. A roller system is driven to support and maintain the inner diameter of the coil constant and the wire or tape is payed out from the inner diameter, to avoid stress on the wire or tape. An air motor independently drives a tension control roller which controls the pay-out tension without imparting undue stress to the wire or tape.
Abstract: The invention concerns a bench coil winder, comprising a frame for the support of at least one rotary winding spindle, of a tailstock for the spindles, and of at least one movable wireguide for feeding and distributing the wire on the coil being wound. The frame is made in the form of a bedplate (1) and of at least one vertical wall (1A), on which are mounted all the elements forming the machine, and it comprises a body (2) covering all these elements, which is fixed on the bedplate (1). The wireguide (9) is mounted slidable according to the axis Y, perpendicularly to the front wall (2') of the covering body (2), onto a unit movable according to the axes X and Z; on this unit there is fixed a closing lamina (2b), parallel and shortly spaced from the wall (2'), which closes a window (2a) provided in the covering body (2) to let through the wireguide (9).
Abstract: A fishing reel is comprised of a hollow casing, a shaft extending through the casing with a nose disposed at one end thereof and a rearwardly directed skirt in spaced facing relation to the casing defining an annular gap therebetween, an axially reciprocal line spool on the shaft with front and rear flanges, and a fishing line wound therebetween extending radially through the annular gap. A line pick-up includes a forwardly extending rod and gear mechanism for imparting rotational and axial movement thereto so as to advance the rod into the path of movement of the line for winding the line onto the line spool and for retracting the line pick-up member and rod away from the path of movement of the line. A drag control is mounted on the shaft to impart a selected adjustable amount of resistance to rotation of the line spool via guide rods between the nose and lure spool. A manually adjustable drag sleeve is mounted on the shaft and is axially movable into frictional engagement with the nose.
Abstract: A device for preventing fishing line backlash in a double-bearing type fishing reel wherein a spool is loaded by magnetic induction to prevent the backlash. The device is so constructed that magnet rings are located inside and outside of an electric conductive ring fixed to a spool shaft. One of the magnetic rings is rotated by an adjusting disc having a guide slot to engage a lug on the rotated ring to adjust the magnetic induction brake force for the spool.
Abstract: In a closed face reel a spool is supported on a base member of a main body of the reel. A driving mechanism is provided for driving a rotary member to wind a fishing line onto the spool. A cover is provided for the main body with the cover being divided into separate divided portions along the axis of the spool. The divided covers are capable of opening and closing relative to one another. A maintaining device is provided to maintain the cover in the closed condition after it has been closed.
Abstract: The coil winder is of the type comprising at least two sets of spindles for coil support, rotating about parallel axes and mounted on two opposite surfaces of a bed tilting by 180.degree., this latter rotating about a horizontal axis which is transverse to the axes of the spindles. Two motion transmissions are provided on the tilting bed to independently drive the spindles of a first set and, respectively, the spindles of a second set. While the coils supported by the first set of spindles are being wound, the spindles of the second set are in a waiting position for loading or unloading the coils. According to the invention, an intermediate and/or supplementary working stage is carried out on the coils mounted on the spindles of the second set, taking advantage of the waiting period.
Abstract: An improved toroidal core attaching device for a winding device for toroidal coils including a receptacle sleeve held on a pivotable arm to receive the toroidal core, the core and receptacle being pivotable on the arm into the orbit of an annular wire magazine. The receptacle sleeve is open in a region of its generated surface which is directed to the center of the magazine in the winding position and the receptacle sleeve and toroidal core form a clamp therebetween for an end of the wire. The open region of the receptacle sleeve forms an access opening for the clamping area.
Abstract: A fly-fishing reel has a line spool and an associated housing mountable on a fly rod. The line spool includes a tubular body with radially projecting edge flanges, the body being rotatably supported around its inner peripheral surface by carrier rollers rotatably mounted in the housing, the carrier rollers are journalled with a predetermined rotational drag so as to prevent the line spool from spinning. Thus, the inventive fly-fishing reel operates without any specific brake arrangement. The invention further includes a process for shifting a fly line mounted on a fly rod and on a fly fishing reel in which only the original fly line is substituted. Through the help of an auxiliary shaft mounted on the housing of the fly-fishing reel, the original fly line is wound on to an exchange spool leaving the backing line on the line spool of the fly-fishing reel.
Abstract: A dual mode fishing reel construction which could be of the fly reel type wherein the subject reel structure automatically changes from a direct drive of the line containing spool, during take-up of the fishing line, to an anti-reversing mode, during playout of the fishing line, wherein the crankarm used to rotate the spool for take-up of the fishing line will be prevented from free rotation during playout of the fishing line. A direct drive mechanism serves to drivingly interconnect a manually rotated crankshaft with the spool for forward rotation (line take-up) and will automatically disengage from such direct driving interconnection with the spool when the spool is forced into reverse rotation such as in casting or playout of the line by a fish, without the need for manually adjustable or engageable actuating mechanisms.
Abstract: A bait cast fishing reel includes electronic timing circuitry for controlling deceleration of the spool thereof, about which fishing line is wound and playing out. The spool is mechanically released and the timing circuitry is activated by the pressing of a control button. When a casting sequence is commenced, the timing control allows the spool to first rotate freely for a preselected period of time. A second phase of the timing circuitry then applies a spool braking mechanism for a preselected time period. At the completion of this second period, the timing circuitry again releases the spool for manual braking by thumb pressure. Rewinding the spool resets the timing circuitry for the next cast, and disconnects power from the circuitry.
Abstract: A clutch mechanism for a fishing reel wherein the shaft supporting the spool is selectively engaged and disengaged from the drive mechanism through a clutch. The clutch also actuates a spring bias link having an opening therein that includes a stepped and elongated portion. A kick pawl pivotally affixed to the link is disposed to lie between the teeth of a ratchet which is driven by the handle of the fishing reel. Upon turning the handle, the kick pawl moves the link such that the projection moves into the elongated portion of the opening in the link, thereby allowing a spring that biases the clutch to engage the pinion gear with the spool shaft.
Abstract: An armature winding machine has an armature winding core holder provided with a collet assembly for gripping the shaft of an armature core. The collet assembly has a plurality of releasable balls that connect the collet assembly to a support. A tool having a push rod and hooked fingers is used to release the balls and grasp the collet assembly for removal from its support. Another collet assembly can be mounted on the support with the tool. The armature winding machine has chucks with wire form or shrouds for guiding wire into selected slots in the armature core during the winding of the wire with the rotating flyers of the machine. The chucks are releasably mounted on supports so that they can be removed as a unit from the support and replaced with different sized chucks. The chuck and supports have cooperating connecting structure and locking dogs that releasably hold the chucks on the supports.
Abstract: A drag control mechanism for use in a fishing reel of the type wherein a drag mechanism is mounted on a handle shaft to apply a drag force against a master gear comprises a drag control member mounted on the handle shaft, a drag pawl which engages or disengages from the drag control member, a reverse rotation preventing pawl which engages the ratchet wheel and a drag switch swingable between its ON and OFF states. When the drag switch is in its ON state, the drag pawl engages the drag control member to prevent the rotation thereof and the reverse rotation pawl disengages from the ratchet wheel to permit the reverse rotation of the shaft, so that the drag force of the drag mechanism is controlled by the movement of the drag control member relative to the shaft upon the rotation of the handle.
Abstract: A spinning-type fishing reel having an improved bail changeover mechanism providing a light weight and simple reel construction while achieving high reliability and eliminating sources of line tangle. A bail arm is pivoted on a pair of opposed arms provided on a rotor in such a manner that the bail arm automatically returns from a line-releasing position to a line-rewinding position upon rotation of the rotor. A gear transmitting mechanism is linked with a bail-arm lever via a link mechanism having a plurality of links arranged so as to provide a dead point. A follower gear, rotatably linked with the link mechanism, is provided with a pin urged in the return direction of the bail arm by a spring. All members of the bail changeover mechanism are attached to the rotor and arranged such that a bail arm changeover cam and the pin block each other's movement in the line-releasing position of the bail arm.
Abstract: A fly fishing reel includes a drag mechanism having a rotor attached to the line-storage spool. The rotor is frictionally engaged by two elastomeric annular rings which are variably compressed by two shell halves which are in turn compressed by a drag-adjustment knob threaded to a shaft which supports and journals the spool.
