Patent number: 4634072Abstract: A fishing reel having a drive motor, gearing, stationary spool for the fishing line and a flanged winding cup provided with a guide for a pickup pin extendable through the flange, together with a cam for causing the guide and pickup pin to be extended, includes a spring which moves the winding cup toward the cam and produces sufficient force to maintain the guide on the cam against a surge of a fish when the pickup pin is extended to use the gearing and unactuated drive motor as a brake. An optical fiber, terminating adjacent the winding cup flange, transmits an impression of the line moving in front of its end around the winding flange during casting or the pickup pin similarly moving, to a translation device which converts the number of rotations into feet, meters, or the like. Such movement is correlated with the amount of line moved onto or off the spool to compensate for differing diameters of a line loop so wound or unwound.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 1985Date of Patent: January 6, 1987Inventor: Arthur J. Stealy

Patent number: 4625928Abstract: A magnetic cylinder and plate for offset printing. The cylinder has annular magnets and pole pieces. The magnetic circuit is completed through a printing plate. The magnetic flux substantially saturates the pole pieces and plates. The area ratio of the pole pieces to the magnets is greater than about 0.45 to 1 and preferably about 0.6 to 1. In assembling the magnets and cylinder, the magnets are wrapped into slots between the pole pieces. The magnets are angularly displaced so that the leading magnet is positioned between the pole pieces before it is in proximity to the trailing magnet and demagnetization of the magnets is minimized.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1985Date of Patent: December 2, 1986Assignee: R. Patent number: 4625927Abstract: The automatic winding of extremely small electrical core coils, for example video core coils, takes place on a rotatable winding unit which cooperates with a wire drawing apparatus provided with a catch hook. Each coil former receiver is provided with an associated wire mount. During the winding, the coil former together with the coil former receiver is immobile wherein the wire section of the winding wire necessary for each core coil is drawn from a wire storage coil over a wire deflector. During the winding of the core coil the rotatable winding unit, together with a plurality of wire retainers arranged in a vertically adjustable winding head, can be positioned so that the catch hook passes horizontally not only through one of the wire retainers but also through the core opening in the coil former. After applying the winding wire to one limb of the coil former during the withdrawal of the catch hook through the core opening, the cyclic rotation of the wire retainers then takes place through 270.degree.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 1984Date of Patent: December 2, 1986Assignee: Meteor AGInventor: Ernst Arnold

Patent number: 4625947Abstract: The illustrated embodiment which is in the form of a winch (or hoist) comprises a reel including a spool and embodying a portion thereof through which it may be driven for its raising and lowering functions. The reel mounts in bearing relation to a drive shaft between parallel relatively closely spaced side walls of its housing. This embodiment features an overload clutch including a drive plate mounted for rotation with said shaft within said housing. The drive plate nests within a shallow cup-shaped plate firmly and resiliently coupled by springs, parts of which have an interfit relation with portions of the bounding wall. Upon rotation of the shaft the nature and direction thereof is transmitted through the clutch and successive drive transmission elements to the portion of the reel provided for this purpose.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 1984Date of Patent: December 2, 1986Assignee: Deuer Manufacturing, Inc.Inventors: Stephen A. Patent number: 4618106Abstract: A fishing reel wherein a spool is rotatably supported on a spool shaft mounted between first and second side frames. A cast-control member is supported on the second side frame and positioned at one axial side of the spool. The cast-control member is movable axially of the spool and has an operating portion operable outside the second side frame. A contact member has an annular contact portion for contacting the cast-control member. The contact member is held at an axial outer face of the spool such that the contact member does not rotate relative to the spool. Patent number: 4610402Abstract: Disclosed is a filament winding feed system that collects and collimates strands of composite material (26) from a supply creel (22) and controls the convergence of the strands into a single band (20) at a feed eye (32) as the band is wound about a rotating mandrel (18). The feed eye (32) incorporates a ceramic ring (108) that is rotatably mounted therein. Use of the rotatable ceramic ring (108) provides a durable surface by which strands (26) can pass without causing excessive wear. The heat retention property of the ring (108) is conducive to lubrication of the passing strands without overheating the strands. The rotatable nature of the ring (108) eliminates the problem of strands bunching or twisting as they move in response to changes in the winding direction. Two comb devices are used as control elements. The first comb (24) collects the strands from the supply spools into a parallel spaced-apart relationship.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1984Date of Patent: September 9, 1986Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Darrell H.
