  • Patent number: 4423853
Abstract: A support block for stringing one or two cables simultaneously which is hung from an existing cable suspended laterally overhead, in which the cable-to-be-strung can be rapidly inserted, and on which the cable-to-be-strung rests prior to its being lashed to a utility pole. The temporary support block is raised to the existing cable by means of a layup stick or similar hand-held installation pole by a worker standing on the ground. More than one support block can be hung and cable suspended therefrom before the cable is pulled between one or more utility poles. The method of using several support blocks reduces the frequency with which workers must put tension on a cable in order to string it and enables the workers to keep greater lengths of cable suspended above potentially-damaging ground traffic and obstacles.

  • Patent number: 4422600
Abstract: This invention relates to a fishing reel which has free spooling, variable drag, and lock up action controlled by an exterior lever. The lever is cammed to a draw rod, which, in turn, through a floating contact, pins journalled through the reel housing, and a thrust bearing, urges a brake disk against a brake lining fixed to the spool. The floating contact is adjustable for presetting the maximum drag and provides smooth operation even under conditions of a warped brake disk or uneven brake lining. And use of approximately a dozen pressure pins, depending on reel size, avoids pressure warpage of the thrust bearing race and consequent binding during maximum drag operation. The brake disk, floating contact, journalled pins, and thrust bearing are located in a housing opposite that containing the lever, winding handle, and a second thrust bearing for the spool and thereby permit easy access for repair.

  • Patent number: 4418491
Abstract: A switching arrangement for preventing backlash in an automatic angling machine, to activate and deactivate a braking clutch in the angling machine dependent upon whether or not the fishing line issuing from the line reel of the machine is slackened or taut, respectively. A rocker arm sensing the tension in the issuing fish line effects opening and closing of a switch to provide the activation control to the braking clutch. The switching arrangement is advantageously usable with automatic angling machines for providing automatic control of the sinker depth at the end of the line. In combination with automatic angling machines, a sequence of line letting, bottom sensing, limited line hauling, and fishing mode intervals, all functionally associated with the switching arrangement, is made possible.

  • Patent number: 4403747
Abstract: A continuous loop film projecting apparatus whereby film from a projector is received on a platter having pneumatic or mechanical means to decrease the friction on the film as a result of the film rubbing against the platter surface and against itself. A blower located beneath the platter forces air through a series of holes or jets in the platter, lifting the edge of the film enough off the platter to decrease the tension on the film and help prevent the film from breaking. Instead of forcing air through holes in the platter to lift the film, the platter may have slots extending almost the width of the platter with blades attached to the bottom of the platter underneath the slots, the blades projecting through the slots as a roller on the blade contacts a camming surface.
